Chef Richard L. Austin, Tonight… on “Conversations Of A Sistah”

Chef_Richard_Austin

It’s not uncommon to be in touch with my high school classmates, especially with the popularity of various social media options that we have today, which makes it all possible. I get excited to see and hear, when so many of my classmates are successful and doing well.

Like Richard L. Austin (pictured above). He was the heartthrob of almost every female in my class at Passaic County Technical and Vocational High School in Wayne, NJ. Richie (as he was known), was handsome, athletic, buff and charming. He was so cool, very polite but in a way, he made me nervous; I was a bit intimidated by his charisma.

Today, he is known as “Chef Austin“, a professional chef who specializes in Southern American/International cuisine and has been certified by the “American Culinary Federation“. Chef Austin also is owner and proprietor of his own business: “Austin’s Catering“.

Educated at Brunswick College in Brunswick, Georgia, Chef Austin has much to add to his accredited achievements, having appeared on The Savannah morning news; Brunswick News 6, Coastal Illustrated Magazine, Coastal Cuisine and Elegant Island magazine. Winner of over twenty five (25) culinary competitions, and now manufacturer of his very own seasonings, Chef Austin is truly accomplished.

Join me tonight at 6:30 p.m. EST on “Conversations Of A Sistah” via blog talk radio, as I catch up with this culinary genius and high school classmate, to discuss how he’s manufactured his own seasonings and the secret to his success.

Good food

Had Dinner At Café 2825 this weekend and the food was Fabulous!

I’m convinced; almost all great and authentic Italian chefs were born in Italy but migrated to Brooklyn.

Dinner this weekend at Café 2825 was out of this world!

It’s a very small quaint but cozy café located in the heart of Atlantic City, New Jersey.

This fine eatery serves simple Italian-American cuisine in an upscale casual style location since arriving from Brooklyn in 1986. The service is/was impeccable from start to finish. The food was so authentic, you would swear somebody’s Italian grand-mama was in the kitchen churning her very own home-made sauces and slicing her very own pasta. Fresh mozzarella was being made right before our eyes and added a tasty touch to any dish.

The bread was delivered to our table hot and slighted dusted from the oven, with an olive oil dipping that put butter to shame. Our choice for an appetizer was stuffed calamari…one big roll of calamari stuffed with crabmeat and rings of calamari dancing around it. The menu said it was fried but the taste said something different.

Rated one of the top five (5) restaurants in Atlantic City, NJ the ambiance was warm, friendly and very inviting.

So if you’re ever in the Atlantic City area, make Café 2825 your choice for dining.

I attended an event a couple of weeks ago in honor a “Conversations Of A Sistah” guest, Katrina Walker.

The upscale “Meet and Greet” event was hosted by Double XXposure Media Relations, whose Founder, President and Ceo Mr. Angelo Ellerbee, exudes his presentation with class, elegance and a high sense of professionalism. In looking at Mr. Ellerbee and watching him work a room, you can sense that he’s graced the runway at some point in his career; with his slender frame and fashion style. He has styled divas from Roberta Flack to Nina Simone and his work has been displayed in publications such as Vogue Magazine, Essence, Women’s Wear Daily and Ebony Man.

Oh my god but I forgot, this post is not totally about Mr. Ellerbee in its entirety, it’s about the event he and his staff hosted.

The private soirée was held at Mr. Chow’s East side classic eatery on 57th Street in NYC. The restaurant is famous for hosting some of New York’s most exciting and important parties. Dubbed by Forbes Magazine for its “great food, elegant setting and fabulous Chinese fare”, Mr. Chow’s is known for hosting elegant events for museums, artists and fashion houses.

Kartrina Walker was highlighted on “Conversations Of A Sistah” for the first time in August of this year and returned on October 26th. Ms. Walker is an avid entrepreneur and self-made multimillionaire who has turned her story from victim to victor in her survival of domestic violence. Katrina is a beautiful woman, with a contagious personality and it was a pleasure to meet her and her husband.

Also in attendance was other notables such as; Ramona Maben of the Harlem Times, Audrey J. Bernard from The New York Beacon, Florence Anthony (Known as Flo) of Dottie-Media Group LLC. Oh and a special guest appearance by The Reverend Al Sharpton.

When “Why are u not Married” is the question at those holiday gatherings…tonight on “Conversations Of A Sistah”

holiday-questions-660x429It’s that age old question that you know is coming up, especially at those holiday gatherings amongst family and friends. You’re fine, you’re beautiful, you got this “kick-ass personality” successful and established, so why are you not married? How come some man hasn’t come along and snatched you up?

Why do people care? What are they thinking in the back of their minds…how could you be living your life without someone to share it with matrimonially? How could you be surviving without a significant other? But what puzzles me the most is, why should “happily ever after” be contingent upon another being?

When did being single become a sin?

Tune in tonight at 6:30 P.M. on “Conversations Of A Sistah” via Blog Talk Radio, to hear my commentary, experience and opinion regarding this subject matter when these questions are thrown at me. As I take your calls, comments and opinions at 1-917-889-7872. Just remember to press “1” to speak with the host.

How Did you Give Thanks?

Ms_Mamie_HouseThanksgiving is a time for family and friends, yet some people still don’t understand this concept. The family structure is not as solid and strong as it us to be, this is why some family members choose to be scattered and unappreciative in a time of giving thanks.

Children no longer make their way to their parents or grandparents home for thanksgiving. Long gone are the days of “over the mountains and through the woods to grandmothers house we go”. Some people don’t understand that “family is not only important but the backbone of our being“. Some of us don’t get that memo until it’s too late.

I “thank God” that my girlfriends family still and always embrace the concept of “family first’ and the importance of family dinners and Thanksgiving gatherings year after year. My conscious was even called into question as she reminded me of how we’d meet at her mom’s house every Sunday after church, break bread and shared meals.

My girlfriend further reminded me, of the many Sundays I planted my feet firmly under her mother’s table for the macaroni and cheese, cornbread, yams and array of other soul food favorites. She said “yeah Tracy you could be blogging about Sunday dinners here, instead of all these restaurants you be going to every week”. I was so strongly convicted because she was RIGHT!! Her mom is known for preparing a meal at the drop of a hat and can fry fish like It’s nobody’s business.

This “friend of mine” was inherited because our families are friends and the love is genuine and this is where I spent my thanksgiving. Thankful and reminded that “their home is where my heart is and will always be” no matter how far I rome on this journey called life, because it is in their atmosphere of family, where I will always experience love, warmth, respect and positivity…and for that I’m thankful and grateful.
