Michelle Obama Tackling Childhood Obesity

First Lady Michelle Obama is encouraging many with her “Lets Move” campaign to reduce childhood obesity, not only by talking to school students throughout the country but by influencing her staff workers within the White House as well.

A Shapedown program for overweight adolescents and children on November 20, in Aurora, Colorado, which is a 10-week family centered program held by the Denver area Children’s Hospital teaching youth and their parents ways to lead a healthier more active lifestyle, a longer lasting weight-loss alternative to dieting.

Nationally, some 15 percent of children are overweight or obese, as are some 60 percent of adults.

Michelle Obama’s campaign is so encouraging to many, adults and children alike. In today’s society with Burger King, McDonald’s and every other fast food restaurant within blocks of these inner cities, you have the companies that own the Olive Garden, Red Lobster and four other popular restaurant chains pledging to cut the calories and sodium in its meals and to overhaul its kids’ menu.

I think the first lady’s campaign is a positive thing, so why pledge to lose weight in the New Year, let’s move now…

“President Barack Obama Is Not A Fan Of The HO-Dashians”

Did I say the HO-Dashians? Oh I meant the Kardashians.

We might live in a Kardashian nation, but President Barack Obama (like me) isn’t a fan of reality Television’s slutty family!

Michelle and the President don’t like Sasha, 10, and Malia, 13, keeping up with Kim, Kourtney and Khloe Kardashian. Thank God the President of these United States “has raised a standard of living” with his young daughters.

The Kardashian clan in my opinion, does not set a positive example for young women; nor are they role models in today’s troubled society.

Unlike a lot of parents today, the Obama’s are not allowing reality television to dictate to their girls. They regulate how much Television their daughters watch and what they’re allowed to see. Michelle and Barack are interested in how their girls are influenced and the lessons they learn in the long run.

If only we had more parents in 2011 who patterned after the first lady and Presidents standards and expectations of who they allow to influence their children; we’d raise a real “standard of living” in this country.

“Please DO NOT SEND ME Via FaceBook”

Weddings and shower invitations, as well as solicitation for money.

I’m old-fashioned and a stickler for “all things etiquette” and these things should be addressed in a formal manner not via electronic means of communication. I find it tacky and tasteless so please refrain from Facebook invitations via my inbox with such details.

Thank you!

“Isaiah Mustafa (The Old Spice Dude) Ain’t Checking For The Sistas”

And he apologizes to all black women if your feelings are hurt about it.

Mustafa, who has been romantically linked to chatty comedian Kathy Griffin, listed admirable qualities such as athleticism and honesty for his woman but then asserted that his ideal woman has to have “good hair.”

Mustafa made this ignorant comment when he appeared on E! News with Giuliana Rancic

“I want my kids to have nice hair so she better have good hair. Cause, I don’t know if you’ve checked my hair out lately. Aside from today it’s normally nice. Today it’s slightly nappy”

So, Mustafa is looking for a woman with “good” non-nappy hair? If we apply the stereotypical definition of “good hair” and what “nappy” means–it sounds like African-American women might be out of the running for Mustafa’s affection.  What do you think?

Either way, I’m not checking for Isaiah Mustafa either, he lacks the looks and the interest of being a handsome black man and now that he’s really OPENED his mouth, he’s even more uninteresting.

“More And More Couples Are Shacking Up Pre-Marriage”

According to a recent report: more couples, especially those without college degrees, are turning down marriage in favor of cohabitating and shacking up. Marriage is still far more common, with 58 percent of adults aged 30-44 married as of 2009, compared with 7 percent living with an opposite-sex partner, according to the study from the Pew Research Center.

But cohabitation rates have doubled over the past 15 years, and the marriage rate has plummeted among those without college degrees, according to the study. In 1995, 63 percent of adults in the 30-44 age bracket without degrees were married, but by last year that had fallen to 56 percent. Meanwhile the cohabitation/shacking up rate doubled from 4 to 8 percent.

The cohabitation rate also doubled among those with college degrees, from 2 to 5 percent, but the marriage rate remained almost unchanged at 71 percent.

Is marraige over-rated for some? What’s your opinion Family?
