Terry McMillan: May Do “Waiting to Exhale” Sequel and replace Whitney’s Character

Author Terry McMillan, in a recent interview with The Huffington Post, gave her thoughts on the “Waiting To Exhale” sequel and whether Oprah Winfrey would be playing Whitney Houston’s role (as rumored), when and if the story hits the big screen.

McMillan said “she’s thinking about the best way to proceed”.

Myself and [screenwriter] Lori Lakin Hutcherson wrote drafts for the film and then Whitney passed away. And so now the studio is trying to take a moment to think about how best to proceed. They’ve made it crystal clear that they want to proceed, but it’s just a matter of how.

I have mixed feelings about which way might be best to tell the story. I have critics who feel like they are casting directors, and they know more about what should happen. You have no idea. People have said that we should just kill off the Savannah character, or have her go get a job somewhere and move out of the state. I mean, all kinds of things. And then I have people who think they have in mind who should play Savannah. And right now I’m not in a position to be an advocate one way or the other, with the exception of the fact that it’s hard to imagine the story without the Savannah character in it.

Even though I know how other people may feel the opposite. I feel terrible about Whitney, just like everybody else, but there’s a part of me that also feels that she would want the film to go on. That’s just my gut feeling. And it has nothing to do with me not having an allegiance to her or respect for her. I just have a feeling that Whitney would love from heaven, to sit up there and watch who else can do the character.

What do you all think should happen to Whitney’s character Savannah? Sound off with your opinion, I’d like to know.

“I Am Trayvon Martin” Outrage or Craze??

In support of Trayvon Martin, the 17 year old who was gunned down on February 26, 2012 in the gated community where his father’s lived, the internet is all a craze with people wearing hoodies in light of the details made known by his killers pursuit.

LeBron James and the Miami Heat team showed their full support for Trayvon Martin by wearing grey hoodies in a group photo LeBron uploaded to Twitter.com yesterday with the hashtags: “#WeAreTrayvonMartin #Hoodies #Stereotyped #WeWantJustice”.

Meanwhile, Fox News host Geraldo Rivera fanned the flames of controversy when he advised black and Hispanic parents not to let their sons leave home wearing hoodies.

Rivera denied that he was “blaming the victim” and called it “common sense” for minorities to avoid wearing hoodies. He said that he was “reminding minority parents of the risk that comes with being a kid of color in America,” according to the Huffington Post.

Trayvon was unarmed and carrying a bag of Skittles and a can of ice tea when he was ambushed and gunned down by a racist neighborhood watch captain as he walked home from a corner store. Because Trayvon was black and wearing a hoodie, the neighborhood watch captain thought he was a suspicious criminal, “up to no good”.

But… one of my loyal readers think it’s a craze, and when the flames are fanned, the outrage will subside. Why? Because we don’t stay informed, check out what she said:

Baltimore Mayor Dismisses Jada Pinkett-Smith

Jada Pinkett Smith wrote a letter to the mayor of her hometown Baltimore, Maryland (Stephanie Rawlings Blake), on behalf of PeTA advocates for elephants. Jada was urging the Mayor to make sure the Ringling Bros. Barnum Bailey Circus complies with the Baltimore ban on bull hooks.

“Unlike me and other actors, elephants do not choose to perform. These endangered elephants will soon be in your jurisdiction. My friends at PETA and I join animal advocates across the state in asking for your leadership in holding Ringling accountable and requiring the circus to comply with Baltimore’s absolute prohibition of the use of devices such as bull hooks.”

Well, the Maryland’s mayor’s attitude was like “is she serious?” and never even responded to Jada’s letter. The Maryland mayor issued the following statement to a local television station instead:

“We’ve reached out about homelessness, school issues and serious issues of that nature. I would have loved to have gotten some feedback, support or concerns about that. Those are very pressing issues to the city.”

Mayor Stephanie concluded with, “how she’s liked the circus every since she was a little girl and couldn’t wait to take her daughter.”

“Bishop E. Bernard Jordan Exchanges The Word For Cash”

This is something I knew already but recieved the following email from a loyal “Ceo blog” reader who decided to put the fake “money-hungry” prophet on blast.

Dearest Tracy,

Just when you think you have heard it all, here comes Bishop E. Bernard Jordan and his army of so-called prophets. The issues with the “Prophetic Ministry” are both alarming and deceptive as many desperate believers are taken advantage of by men and women like Bishop Jordan. With generic prophecies and new age rhetoric, Bishop Jordan has gotten filthy rich off the hopes of the poor and the sick.

The “prophetic word for cash scheme” has actually been around for a while, even dating back to the time of Paul’s ministry. It was so popular at the time that even when Paul publicly rebuked a psychic / mystic, who was then beaten and thrown in jail (Acts Chapter 16:16-24)…

Like many of you, I too have sat up late at night flipping through the channels only to discover Bishop Jordan on BET offering ridiculously vague prophecies in exchange for a donation of any size. How did we as the Body of Christ go from the Great Prophets of the Bible like Isaiah, Jeremiah, and Ezekiel to Bishop Jordan, Benny Hinn, and Bishop Clarence E. McClendon?

…Men like Bernard Jordan has succeeded in making a mockery of this most Holy appointment due in part to the fact that they have appointed themselves to the role of a Prophet. Common sense would tell us that God would not use a true prophet to issue a prophetic word that sounds something like this:

“I am feeling in my spirit the number 34 or 3 & 4 which means that you may want to sow a seed of $34 dollars because someone in your life who is 34 years old could be in danger.”

Really Bernard Jordan? Really!

We have reached the point in biblical history whereas the fear of the Lord has dissipated and we’re left with preachers who are for entertainment purposes only and E. Bernard Jordan is one of them..

Referring to a chapter from my book, “Conversations Of A Sistah”, the reader concluded: “If you wanna “hustle” then sell drugs, go be a male prostitute, do a check scam, but don’t take advantage of people’s spirituality by trying to make a dollar off of their beliefs.”

Wow and…Amen!
