Barney’s agrees to pay $525K for profiling black customers

trayvon-christian-550x391

Barney’s New York has agreed to pay $525,000 in fees and penalties for racially profiling two Barney’s customers.

The settlement was reached after a nine-month investigation by the New York state attorney general’s office.

The investigation was launched after college student Trayon Christian and nursing student Kayla Phillips were stopped by Barney’s employees in separate incidents after the students purchased expensive items from the New York flagship store.

Trayon said he was accused of theft by a N.Y.P.D. cop after he purchased a $359 Ferragamo belt with a debit card. And Kayla said she was harassed when she bought a $2,500 Céline bag from the same store.

Both have filed lawsuits against the store and the N.Y.P.D. for violating their civil rights.

From Huffington Post:

Investigators reviewed a series of complaints from Barneys customers and former employees, who claimed that door guards would exclusively single out minority customers and that in-store detectives would follow these customers as they walked around. Some salespeople tried not to work with minority shoppers to avoid the hassle of being roped into investigations about them, the complaints alleged.

Attorney General Eric Schneiderman’s office found that a “disproportionate number” of black and Latino customers had been detained at Barneys on suspicion of shoplifting or credit card fraud. It concluded that Barneys lacked the proper “comprehensive written policies” to curb racial profiling.

“Profiling and racial discrimination remain a problem in our state, but not one we are willing to accept,” Schneiderman said in a statement. “This agreement will correct a number of wrongs, both by fixing past policies and monitoring the actions of Barneys and its employee to make sure that past mistakes are not repeated.”

Let’s hope Auntie Fee never gets a cooking show

YouTube have a twisted obsession with making Internet sensations out of uncouth, uneducated   people who are challenged by the English language. Remember Antoine Dodson and Sweet Brown? Most of these Internet stars have no real talent, but they do have a unique knack for making a spectacle out of the mundane.

One such person is Chef Auntie Fee, a sassy woman who uploads videos to YouTube featuring her low budget cooking recipes. Well last night she appeared on Jimmy Kimmel Live.

Auntie Fee’s culinary skills are questionable — as is her penchant for preparing food on unsanitary surfaces such as counter tops and dirty kitchen sinks. Auntie Fee’s kitchen would never pass a health inspection.

What’s attracting to the masses is Auntie Fee’s liberal use of profanity and Ebonics — which gives other cultures the opportunity to insult and belittle our community by elevating these people to star status.

Auntie Fee is not entertaining, she’s embarrassing. Nothing good ever comes out of promoting these individuals. They only serve to lower other cultures’ opinions of our community.

Rev. Al Sharpton displayed as N.Y.P.D. commissioner in fake police ID

Police Commissioner Sharpton? Cops have passed around the fake ID and posted it on Twitter.

Seems the New York City police are UPSET since the Eric Garner choke-hold death on July 27th.

They are so PISSED at the Rev. Al’s involvement that they’ve created a mock-up Police Department ID card featuring a picture of the Rev. under the title “Police Commissioner”. The fake ID has been making its rounds among city cops.

Apparently cops are MAD because of what they perceive as the civil rights activist’s sway over the mayor in the wake of Eric Garner’s death, so they have shared this fake ID in an email and also posted it on Twitter.

The fake card, mimics standard N.Y.P.D. ID and bears a picture of Sharpton underneath the top cop title and police seal.

The cops are extremely peeved because Sharpton, who we all know is the head of National Action Network, took Mayor De Blasio and real-life Police Commissioner Bill Bratton to task during a City Hall summit after Garner’s choke-hold death on July 27.

In addition, the friend of Eric Garner who made the video of Garner’s death known by giving the video to media outlets and exposing a failed attempted cover-up, has since been arrested on gun charges. Coincidence? I think NOT, especially since the gentlemen says, “The cops have been following him every since the incident”

Eric Garner’s death has since been ruled a homicide and Officer Daniel Pantaleo, who is accused of using the banned choke-hold on the 43-year-old father of six, has been stripped of his gun and badge and put on desk duty pending an investigation.

Medical Examiners Report Confirms: It was HOMICIDE!!!

Eric Garner’s death by chokehold was ruled a homicide.

The Staten Island man who collapsed after being placed in the banned restraint by a Staten Island police officer died from compression of the neck and chest, the New York City Medical Examiner ruled Friday.

Although we didn’t need a medical examiner to confirm what was already evident and seen on the video circulating throughout the nation, these finding only further state the TRUTH.

The 43-year-old victim’s asthma, obesity and high blood pressure were also contributing factors in his death, the autopsy determined.

It was the latest development in a case that sparked national outrage after The Daily News obtained video showing Officer Daniel Pantaleo putting Garner in the chokehold.
