“Brown Little Me” Tonight on “Conversations Of A Sistah”

In today’s society the idea of what is deemed beauty or beautiful is distorted, leaving many young African American women still struggling with the challenge of their looks. Yes the light skin vs. dark skin colorism is still an issue and conversation which is uncomfortable for some and a curse in thought by many.

In many parts of the world, people are judged not just by their skin color but also by their skin tone. The devaluing of dark-skinned women is still an issue not just in the black community alone but the issue is extremely pervasive in mainstream America as well.

Join me tonight at 8:00 P.M. on “Conversations Of A Sistah” in our continued celebration of Black History month on “Conversations Live” as I welcome Karen Tucker (pictured below), author of the children’s book “Brown Little Me“, a love letter to the little girl inside of her; who struggled with the many issues of identity, fitting-in and self-acceptance.

Karen_Tucker

As an African American woman, Tucker has always had a lifelong battle with understanding, that while having brown skin has so many benefits; there also seems to be resentment for it on so many levels. Ranging from racism to the destructiveness of self hate and complexion complexes, from these struggles “Brown Little Me” came to be.

So tune in tonight and add your two cents to the conversation by calling into the show at 1-347-426-3645. press ‘1’ to speak with the host and access the show at any of the Conversations links in this post.

Alzheimer’s Sufferer, Fatally Shot Knocking On The Wrong Door …

n-RONALD-WESTBROOK-large300

Ronald Westbrook, 72, slipped unnoticed from his North Georgia home at 1:00 AM with his two dogs. Westbrook, who suffered from Alzheimer’s disease, knocked in the dark on a stranger’s door. Police said a man inside that home, 34-year-old Joe Hendrix, got a .40-caliber handgun, went outside to investigate and shot Westbrook in what is being called a horrible mistake.

Hendrix declined to comment because of the ongoing investigation. His attorney, Lee Davis, described his client as distraught. The local district attorney has not yet decided whether to press criminal charges against Hendrix for shooting a stranger possibly looking for help.

Hendrix’ attorney said about his client “He is not a gun-toting rights activist who’s saying, ‘Keep off my property,” Davis said. “He’s a man who thought he had to take action because of what he believed to be a real and imminent threat.”

Under Georgia law, people are not required to try retreating from a potential conflict before opening fire to defend themselves from serious imminent harm. State law allows people to use lethal force to stop someone from forcibly entering a home if those inside reasonably fear they are going to be attacked. Deadly force can even be used to stop someone from trying to forcibly enter a home to commit a felony.

Different people have a different understanding of what is reasonable, reasonableness is a classic question for a jury in my opinion.

“Stand Your Ground”… is this law racially motivated? Tonight on “Conversations Of A Sistah”

Stand-Your-Ground-Law

Many states have enacted “stand your ground” laws that remove the duty to retreat before using deadly force in self-defense.

A substantial minority of states have laws imposing a duty to retreat, with some important variations. In general, a duty to retreat means that you are not allowed to resort to deadly force in self-defense if it is possible to safely avoid the risk of harm or death (by running away, for example). If that is not an option and you were cornered or pinned down and facing serious harm, then you could be authorized to use deadly force in self-defense.

This was George Zimmerman’s claim in the Trayvon Martin case, he created a fabricated LIE to justify him using deadly force in killing the unarmed teen. This made the “Stand Your Ground” law a central part of the Trayvon Martin controversy. Zimmerman claimed Trayvon Martin pinned him down to the ground, while pounding his head on the pavement, leaving him no other option but to use his weapon in self-defense.

renisha-mcbride-540x668And the recent case of Renisha McBride, 19, (pictured here), the young woman who was shot in the face when she knocked on a door in Dearborn Heights, Mich., at 2:30 a.m. in the morning seeking help after wrecking her car in the early morning hours of Nov. 2.

Civil rights groups have said the killing of McBride, who is black, is an example of racial profiling. They have said the circumstances surrounding her death are similar to the murder of Trayvon Martin.

There are 24 states that have stand your ground laws. 24. That is almost half of all states, and that’s frightening. Additionally, the majority of victims in Florida “Stand Your Ground” cases  have been white.

Join me tonight at 8:00 PM on Conversations Of A SistahviaConversations Liveas we take a look at this law and the alarming cases of “Stand your ground”.

Why do “SOME” Black Men prefer White Women? Tonight on “Conversations Of A Sistah”

black-man-white-woman

This is an age-old subject that’s pretty sensitive for some women, but do black men really prefer white women? Women of other ethnicity groups instead of their own?

It seems as though black men are especially interested in white women once they become successful, than date and marry these women outside of their race. And don’t get me wrong when two people are in love, their skin color shouldn’t matter however, why are these successful black men not hooking up with their own?

Is this a self-hatred that black men have for their own kind so they date outside of their race? Is this a status symbol that black men wish to achieve due to his own low self-esteem? Or is this the enemy’s way to have black men systematically BRAINWASHED by a white supremacy system via media, TV, movies, educational system, etc., to believe white is superior, this being a trick in white america to divide and conquer the black race?

Black_Celeb_men_white_woman

I’ve heard all of the argumentative lies to support the theories as to why black men date outside of their race such as; black women have attitudes, they are too loud and too confrontational, while white women are more submissive, super subservient and more adventurous in bed.

Yet the black man don’t even realize that a lot of these white women are trying to look like US anyway by crowding tanning salons and paying thousands of dollars for ass and lip injections.

Join me tonight at 8:00 PM on “Conversations Of A Sistah” via “Conversations Live” as I tackle this topic. And yes I will be taking your phone calls on the air at 1-347-426-3645, don’t forget to press “1” to speak to the host.
