‘Doulas on Duty’ in this Pandemic, Tonight on Conversations Of A Sistah

Can you imagine being pregnant and due to give birth during this global pandemic?

Having a baby during a pandemic presents its own challenges. And knowing that the United States has the highest maternal mortality rate of any wealthy nation, is something to be concerned about. Especially when you have the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention still saying it doesn’t know how the disease impacts pregnancy and babies.

States and hospitals have mandated fathers cannot be present when the mother gives birth and have minimized them even during routine doctor visits. When you think about the worry of remaining healthy in the midst of this global pandemic, the thought of giving birth in spite of it all can be quite frightening.

Aside from partners, doulas can also offer support virtually during labor and delivery. Meanwhile, pregnant people and new parents are working to cope with this new reality. Despite the many challenges posed by the current crisis, though, many doctors, doulas, and others who work with people giving birth are doing their best to make sure families are still supported.

Substance Abuse & Mental Health Issues – Tonight on “Conversations Of A Sistah”

Dealing with substance abuse, alcoholism, or drug addiction is never easy, and it’s even more difficult when you’re also struggling with mental health issues in addition.

In co-occurring disorders, both the mental health issue and the drug or alcohol addiction have their own unique symptoms that may get in the way of your ability to function at work or school and/or even to maintain a stable home life. These disorders can develop when you can’t handle life’s difficulties and relate to others. To make the situation more complicated, the co-occurring disorders also affect each other. When a mental health problem goes untreated, the substance abuse problem usually gets worse. Both conditions can lead to detrimental outcomes.

“Has Religion Brainwashed Black People into Forgiving?” Tonight on “Conversations Of A Sistah”

Black people didn’t know what to think after Botham Jean’s brother hugged the former Dallas cop who took his brother’s life in a deadly case of mistaken identity.

Last Tuesday a jury convicted Amber Guyger of murder in the fatal shooting of her upstairs neighbor. She claimed she mistook his apartment for her own after working a 13-hour shift on Sept. 6, 2018.

Prosecutors showed the jury racist text messages and racially offensive memes on Guyger’s social media accounts.

Guyger, 31, was sentenced to 10 years in prison on Wednesday, Oct. 2.

During his victim impact testimony, Jean’s brother, Brandt Jean told Guyger, who is white, that he forgives her and didn’t want her to go to prison. “I love you as a person, and I don’t wish anything bad on you,” Brandt said.

After his testimony, Brandt gave Guyger an emotional embrace that stunned social media.

There was more odd behavior in the courtroom. A Black bailiff was seen stroking and primping Guyger’s hair after her guilty verdict was announced.

The courtroom behavior angered many and confused others.

“When the media controls the narrative” Tonight on “Conversations Of A Sistah”

Last week Facebook and Instagram banned, the honorable Minister Louis Farrakhan from its platform.

The controversial Nation of Islam minister, was among several conservative voices banned from the social media platforms for being “dangerous,” according to Facebook’s ruling.

While there are some extreme voices dominating the social media platform, the same can be said for the voices and images on television. But because the media controls the narrative, they control the platforms.

Minister Farrakhan is the leader of the Nation of Islam which is considered a hate group. The Southern Poverty Law Center cited Farrakhan as “deeply racist, anti-Semitic and anti-LGBT.” Farrakhan’s Facebook page was deleted and all of its content purged from the social media giant’s servers, along with the social media pages of his religious organization.

“We’ve always banned individuals or organizations that promote or engage in violence and hate, regardless of ideology. The process for evaluating potential violators is extensive and it is what led us to our decision to remove these accounts today.”

“Male Conduct & the impact of the #metoo Movement” on Conversations Of A Sistah”

The #MeToo movement, with many local and international alternatives, is a movement against sexual harassment and sexual assault.

The movement spread virally in October 2017 as a hashtag used on social media in an attempt to demonstrate the widespread prevalence of sexual assault and harassment, especially in the workplace. Unlike many kinds of social-media activism, it isn’t a call to action or the beginning of a campaign, culminating in a series of protests, speeches and events. The movement is about enough being enough and holding those individuals responsible for their indiscretions.

There are other forms of harassment than sexual, and we should not approve of any of them. But the focus on sexual harassment is dangerous, because the term is so broad and undefined. So far the #metoo movement has come down to anything that a woman says is indoctrinated to see it as she says without proof. This is a good way to destroy relations between the genders.
