Aretha Franklin Calls Off Her Wedding, wonder what happened?

Queen of soul, Aretha Franklin called off the wedding to her fiance Willie Wilkerson, according to published reports.

“Will and I have decided we were moving a little too fast, and there were a number of things that had not been thought through thoroughly. There will be no wedding at this time,” Franklin said through her representatives. “We will not comment on it any further because of the very personal and sensitive nature of it. We appreciate all of the many well wishes from friends.”

Mm, wonder what happened?

FIRST LOOK: Whitney Houston Back on Screen, in Sparkle

It’s been more than 15 years since Whitney Houston starred in a big Hollywood movie – 1996’s The Preacher’s Wife – and while fans may be rejoicing about her return to the screen in the upcoming Sparkle, the happiest person of all seems to be the pop diva’s costar, Jordin Sparks.

“She was so cool and very motherly toward me,” says the former American Idol winner, 22, who marks her film debut in the remake of a 1976 movie that originally starred Lonette McKee and Irene Cara. “If I ever looked like I needed something, here she came saying ‘Are you okay?’ “

“Part of the fun of making this movie is definitely the costumes and the hairstyles,” says the star, 48. “The movie is set in 1963, and we had a great wardrobe, hair and makeup person and I loved wearing the outfits.”

The film, which chronicles the challenges faced by group of singing sisters once they hit it big, is due out Aug. 10, 2012 (7 months from now) and costars Derek Luke.

Etta James, Powerful Voice Behind ‘At Last,’ Dies In L.A.

Etta James, whose powerful, versatile and emotionally direct voice could enliven the raunchiest blues as well as the subtlest love songs, most indelibly in her signature hit, “At Last,” died Friday morning in Riverside, Calif. She was 73.

Her manager, Lupe De Leon, said that the cause was complications of leukemia. Ms. James, who died at Riverside Community Hospital, had been undergoing treatment for some time for a number of conditions, including leukemia and dementia. She also lived in Riverside.

Ms. James was not easy to pigeonhole. She is most often referred to as a rhythm and blues singer, and that is how she made her name in the 1950s with records like “Good Rockin’ Daddy.” She is in both the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and the Blues Hall of Fame.

She was also comfortable, and convincing, singing pop standards, as she did in 1961 with “At Last,” which was written in 1941 and originally recorded by Glenn Miller’s orchestra. And among her four Grammy Awards (including a lifetime-achievement honor in 2003) was one for best jazz vocal performance, which she won in 1995 for the album “Mystery Lady: Songs of Billie Holiday.”

Aretha Franklin Is Engaged At 69

I guess love has no age limits for legendary soul singer Aretha Franklin, 69, because the *Queen of soul* is set to walk down the aisle for a fourth time. According to published reports, the Queen of Soul, who has a spotty history with men, is engaged to her “longtime friend” William “Willie” Wilkerson.

“We’re looking at June or July for our date, and no I’m not pregnant, LOL!,” Franklin said in a statement.

According to public records Mr. Wilkinson is 54 years old. It’s clear from Ms. Franklin’s previous relationships with younger men that she tends to fall hard for smooth talkers who escort her down the aisle and later waltz out of her life with a substantial alimony check.

Ms. Franklin suffered a medical setback in January of last year after allegedly undergoing weight loss surgery. She later released statements denying the weight loss surgery rumors. But according to Beverly Hills-based surgeon, Dr. Lawrence Koplin, in an interview with Fox News, such a drastic weight loss is next to impossible without surgical intervention.

Singer & Crowd Shaker, Fantasia Barrino Gives Birth To A Baby Boy

Fantasia Barrino gave birth to a bouncing baby boy last night. The baby’s father is ex-T-Mobile manager Antwuan Cook and he was said to be at her side during the delivery.

Fantasia was admitted to Presbyterian Hospital in Charlotte, North Carolina yesterday afternoon after she went into labor. The baby was actually due on December 29 but her delivery came earlier than expected.

Cook who is still married to his estranged wife Paula, began his extra marital affair with Fantasia while (according to his wife), they were trying to patch up their marriage. Fantasia even testified during a separation hearing between Antwaun and his wife Paula last November, that she had previously been pregnant by Antwaun but had an abortion. Guess the baby came back 10 months later.
