Comedian, What she said

Mo’Nique Said She Was Blackballed After She Won Her Oscar

Presentation1

Comedian/actress Mo’Nique says Hollywood blackballed her after she won the Academy Award for her role in Lee Daniels’ critically acclaimed film Precious.

In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Mo’Nique recalled winning the Oscar and expecting to receive an abundance of higher quality movie roles. But that didn’t happen, and she said director-of-the-moment Lee Daniels told her why.

“I got a phone call from Lee Daniels maybe six or seven months ago. And he said to me, ‘Mo’Nique, you’ve been blackballed.’ And I said, ‘I’ve been blackballed? Why have I been blackballed?’ And he said, ‘Because you didn’t play the game.’ And I said, ‘Well, what game is that?’ And he gave me no response. The next thing he said to me was, ‘Your husband is outbidding you.’ But he never asked me what [salary] we were asking for.”

Mo’Nique said her husband and manager Sidney Hicks, who is also an actor, decided the best alternative for her was to go independent. She and Hicks have an independent film set for limited theater release on April 24 called Blackbird.

Mo’Nique denied rampant rumors that she is “difficult” to work with on the set.

“Whoever those people are who say, “Mo’Nique is difficult,” those people are either heartless, ruthless or treat people like they’re worthless. And that’s unacceptable,” said Mo’Nique.

Mo’Nique said she was offered the role as Forest Whitaker’s mother in Daniels’ movie The Butler. But Daniels gave the role to Oprah. Mo’Nique was also offered the role of late comedian Richard Pryor’s grandmother in Daniels’s upcoming biopic on Pryor’s life. But that role also went to Oprah, who obviously used her significant influence over Daniels in her shameless pursuit of an Academy Award nomination.

Celebrity, Celebrity Couples, Kanye West, Kim Kardashian

Would you wear this Garbage by Kanye West?

Rap artist Kanye West debuted his flesh color body wear last week at fashion week. And the line is simply a mess in my opinion! Kanye should stick strictly to the art of music because I think he knows NOTHING about fashion.

Yet Kanye is receiving an abundance of praise from editors, authorities in fashion and influencers. His collection made its way down the runway on the first day of New York Fashion Week, comprising of full body stockings, see-through skin-colored crop tops and visible nude pants. It’s certainly a new take on underwear as outerwear – one certainly not for the faint hearted.

Kim Kardashian certainly looked a hot mess (pictured below) as she wore her husbands creation ensemble to his show last week. She liked the look so much, she even posted an Instagram photo of herself, adding: ‘My look for the Yeezy show!!!!!! Yeezy head to toe!!!!!’

The camo parka that Kim Kardashian also wore was a highlight, and we thought the oversized backpack was a clever accessory that’ll probably make it into a healthy stack of editorials.’

Kanye claims that he wanted his collection to be made up of ‘solutions based clothing,’ saying, ‘I don’t want the clothes to be the life, I want the clothes to help the life.’

It is also thought that it will have a relatively low price point compared to other designer clothes meaning the pieces can be snapped up by his fans.

I have one question, will you be trying Kanye’s nude body suit it out?

Celebrating Our History through Entrepreneurship, Tonight on “Conversations Of A Sistah”

We should be celebrating the history of our people every single day of the year. There are so many African American men and women who have contributed to our history through the talents and gifts they possess.

Harriet Tubman knew how to maneuver slaves through the underground railroad, just like Madame C. J. Walker was an inventor of her hair care products. Just as African American actresses, such as Hattie McDaniel portrayed the real cooks during the slavery era, the talents of African American woman were the backbones in a kitchen during the war.

While Slavery and poverty were historical factors that influenced the evolution of southern food and baking. The African slaves that cooked and served generations were the primary creators of southern cooking. They transformed staples of pioneer culture into refined dishes and feasts that now epitomizes southern hospitality.

We’ve come a long way since this era, as with Regina Davis (pictured above), who is influential today as the owner and operator of “Regina’s Sweet Temptations“. A talent giant who creates delectable treats with a vision in her heart and a passion for perfection. A culinary genius with humble beginnings, who learned from an aunt and experienced heartfelt results. Regina’s professionalism and polished presentation is an introduction to a taste that won’t disappiont.

“I first learned the art from my Aunt Cally when I was young and then perfected my skills by preparing delicious treats for my three children over the years. I found that I loved seeing the smiles on my friends faces, when they bit into one of my delicious chocolate chip cookies or admired one of my many creative cupcake designs.” Regina Davis

Regina is adamant about the layout and design of her “treats” telling my administrator “I take so many pictures to get the right one”.

Although her side slogan is the “cupcake lady” her business is more than just cupcakes. Regina has a creative flare to pull you into all that she has to offer; from cakes to cookies to brownies and miniature treats, it’s obvious her creative flare is a gift that she posses.

Join me tonight at 6:30 pm on “Conversations Of A Sistah” via Blog Talk Radio as we celebrate and salute the talented and awesome, Regina Davis of “Regina’s Sweet Temptations” in commemoration of Black History month.

Bobbi Kristina’s Family Set to Pull Plug On Anniversary of Whitney’s Death?

bobbi-kristina-cissy-houston-550x333

It is rumored throughout social media and the internet that, Bobbi Kristina Brown’s family will pull the plug on Feb. 11 — the 3rd anniversary of her mother Whitney Houston’s tragic death by drowning. Bobbi was found face down and unresponsive (no heart beat, not breathing) in a bathtub at her Roswell home 2 weeks ago.

Bobbi was transferred to Emory hospital after neurologists at North Fulton Hospital told singer Bobby Brown that his daughter was brain dead and there was nothing else that could be done for her.

Page Six reports that family matriarch Cissy Houston, Whitney’s mother, made the decision to take Bobbi off the ventilator at the stroke of midnight on Feb. 11, to “bond mother and daughter for eternity.”

In addition to taking her off the ventilator, all medications (including IV sedatives) and intravenous nutritional support would also be stopped.

But whether this is true or not is purely speculation until Cissy or Bobby Brown confirms the rumors. Personally, I find it very hard to believe. It sounds too theatrical to be true.

“This is the only thing they can agree on — that she’s gone [brain-dead], and there’s nothing more than can be done for her,” a source told the NY Post’s Page Six.

Meanwhile, police are investigating the history of domestic violence between Bobbi and her longtime boyfriend Nick Gordon that may have directly led to Bobbi’s death.
