This heifer knew she had to be front and center Sunday morning at Abyssinian Baptist Church after the church fought for weeks before it was allowed to post her $25,000 bail on Tuesday.
Owes, 17, was wearing an all-white suit with her long hair pulled up, and was acknowledged by the Rev. Calvin Butts as she sat front and center during both of the famed church’s Easter Sunday services.
Owes was locked up on Riker’s Island and being charged with running guns for a street gang, she was also facing charges that included felony, gun charges and conspiracy. But luckily Afrika Owes was able to stand up on Sunday in the Harlem church that bailed her out – she received welcome home cheers from the congregation for her presence.
The church and her home are just a block from where alleged members of the 137th Street Crew peddled crack and terrorized the neighborhood. Owes was among 14 suspects picked up in a Feb. 16 sweep and spent two months in a Rikers Island jail.
I’m sure Africa Owes and her family will forever be indebted to the Rev. Calvin O. Butts and his Abyssinian Baptist Church, for the huge bailout.
