Why Misery is a choice… Tonight’s Conversation on “Conversations Of A Sistah”

Man remains a slave of misery because he has chosen it. It is easier to be miserable because the whole crowd is miserable. It feels more comfortable to be with the crowd than to be alone. Misery seeks comfort because that is what makes it happy.

This is why I don’t understand everyone’s surprise with the words and statement that came out of rapper/designer Kanye West’s mouth about slavery, when the rapper is famously known for his constant frown. The man NEVER SMILES.

The only way Kanye hooked onto the sluttish famed Kardashian family is because of the death of his mother. Kanye West sought the fulfillment of love to cover two things; grief and void, yet he’s still living with a deep wound that has not been healed or treated.

The Cosby Verdict, Witch Hunt or Justice Served? Tonight on “Conversations of A Sistah”

Bill Cosby was found guilty of drugging and molesting former Temple University staffer Andrea Constand in his home in 2004, paid the alleged victim an undisclosed sum of $3.4 million in 2006 to settle a civil suit alleging he sexually assaulted her.

How is it that a case which was closed 12 years ago, could go to trial after being sealed? The proposal of the lawsuit called for depositions and other documents produced during the pretrial discovery phase to remain confidential for 14 days. Due to the confidentiality between all parties involved, certain documents from the case had been under seal until the Associated Press filed to unseal them following a flood of new allegations against the entertainer.

U.S. District Judge Eduardo Robreno decided to unseal the documents although the court rule state, that unless there is an objection, documents filed in the court will be unsealed automatically two years after the conclusion of litigation. Cosby’s lawyers objected of course but the judged unsealed the deposition anyway.

Was this a witch hunt or was justice served for the alleged victims?

White Privilege in America Tonight on “Conversations Of A Sistah”

What is white privilege? It’s a term used for associating societal privileges that benefit white people in this country and beyond what is commonly experienced by non-white people under the same social, political, or economic circumstances. The concept is to analyze how racism and racialized societies affect the lives of white or white-skinned people verses people of color.

Whites in society enjoy advantages that non-whites do not experience, as “an invisible package of unearned assets”. White privilege denotes both obvious and less obvious passive advantages that white people may not recognize they have, which distinguishes them from overt bias or prejudice.

‘The Lynchings Of African Americans in this Country’ Tonight, on “Conversations Of A Sistah”

The Equal Justice Initiative will open the nation’s first memorial dedicated to lynching victims in Montgomery, Alabama on April 26. The new museum is also dedicated to slavery and explores slavery, lynchings, segregation and modern inequality issues that will have interactive content, which will confront visitors with a history of some of this nation’s horrendous past.

It’s a painful topic but a part of our history rarely discussed.

Between 1877 and 1950 Public torture and the murder of African Americans was common in the south. This story begins on February 1, 1893, in the town of Paris, Texas, but it could just as easily have begun on 4,000 other dates and in dozens of other American localities. During the American Civil War, Paris had a population of fewer than 1,000 people. About a third of them were black slaves, who were eventually freed in the wake of the Union victory and the abolition of slavery in 1865. But despite passage of the 13th Amendment to the Constitution, which formally outlawed slavery, the postwar decades were widespread with systematic, vicious violence against black communities in the South.

It’s a painful story of America’s history of racial injustice. However, in order to heal the deep pain of our present we must address the truth of our past.

In reality we are not always on top of the world and everyday activities can become mundane and draining at times.
