Aaron Alexis, Tragedy, Violence, Washington Navy Yard

13 Dead in Washington Navy Yard shooting!

He supposedly stole an employee ID to gain access to a Washington Navy Yard in Southwest Washington, DC yesterday and killed thirteen (13) innocent individuals who just woke up and went to work like any other normal Monday morning.

The gunman, later identified as Aaron Alexis allegedly suffered from various psychiatric issues, but was not deemed mentally unfit by the military, which could have stripped him of his security clearance.

Alexis (pictured below), who is the lone gunman behind the Washington Navy Yard massacre had been hearing voices in his head before he snapped and fatally shot a dozen people less than two miles from the U.S. Capitol.

He had been treated since August for a slew of psychiatric problems, including paranoia and a sleep disorder, by Veterans Affairs, the Associated Press reported. But the 34-year-old killer, who was drummed out of the Navy reserves for a “pattern of misbehavior,” was never stripped of his security clearance. That enabled Alexis to get into the fortified facility in southeast Washington with a valid pass and go on a killing spree that ended when he was gunned down by cops.

In addition to his mental health issues, Alexis was described as someone who held a grudge against the Navy, had several encounters with law enforcement and struggled to control fits of rage.

Why Alexis went on a killing spree remained a mystery Tuesday, although officials indicated terrorism was an unlikely cause.

Trayvon Martin Photos Not Allowed in Zimmerman Opening Statements

George Zimmerman has lost another round in his upcoming 2nd degree murder case. ABC News reports that the judge presiding over the case will not permit Zimmerman’s lawyers to mention pictures of drugs or guns found on Trayvon Martin’s cell phone during opening statements.

“We have a lot of evidence that marijuana use had something to do with the event,” Zimmerman’s lawyer Mark O’Mara said during a hearing today in Sanford, Fla. “It could have affected his behavior.”

But Circuit Judge Debra Nelson agreed with the prosecution that the photos on Trayvon’s cell phone are irrelevant — at least in the opening statements.

The former self-appointed neighborhood watchman is accused of stalking and murdering 17-year-old Trayvon as the high school student made his way to the home of his father’s friend inside a gated community in February 2012.

Trayvon, who was from Miami, was visiting his father in Sanford after being suspended from school.

Zimmerman, 29, has pleaded not guilty. The trial is set for June 10.

Malcolm Shabazz, the troubled grandson of civil rights icon Malcolm X, has been killed in Mexico, the U.S. Embassy there confirms.

The Amsterdam News reports that Shabazz, 28, was thrown off a rooftop after being shot during an attempted robbery on Thursday, May 9.

“I’m confirming, per U.S. Embassy, on behalf of family, the tragic death of Malcolm Shabazz, grandson of Malcolm X. Statement from family 2 come,” tweeted Shabazz family friend Terrie M. Williams on twitter earlier today.

Shabazz was the son of Qubilah Shabazz, the second daughter of Malcolm X and Betty Shabazz. He was 12 years old in 1997 when he torched Betty Shabazz’s New York apartment, killing her.

Shabazz pled guilty to arson and was sentenced to 18 months in a juvenile detention center. Shabazz’s sentence was extended due to discipline problems and he was released four years later.

Shabazz later claimed he didn’t set the fire that killed his grandmother.

At the time of his death Shabazz was studying Criminal Justice at John Jay College in New York. It isn’t known why Shabazz was in Mexico. He leaves behind 2 daughters.

George Zimmerman “300 pounds” Larger!!!

The accused killer of Florida teen Trayvon Martin now tips the scale at more than 300 pounds and is apparently undergoing a substantial weight gain since his April 2012 arrest. The 29-year-old racist killer and self-appointed neighborhood watchman, is facing a second-degree murder charge and has ballooned in weight since the night he fatally shot the 17-year-old Martin.

I guess the guilt of murdering an unarmed innocent teen, then living in hiding is taking a toll on Zimmerman’s conscious.

In a police statement shortly after the Feb. 26, 2012 shooting, Zimmerman identified himself as 5 feet, 8 inches tall and 194 pounds. Well that’s now a thing in the past.

Zimmerman who has cited self-defense in the  Sanford, Fla., shooting of Trayvon, was then 30 pounds heavier and four inches shorter than the teen.

The trial for Zimmerman in the Trayvon Martin murder is set to begin on June 10, 2013.

Mississippi town stunned by murder of openly gay mayoral candidate Marco McMillian

Marco McMillian was considered by many to be a man on the rise. The first openly gay mayoral candidate’s body was found near a Mississippi River levee Wednesday morning and stunned residents of his hometown in Clarksdale, Miss.  Authorities are investigating McMillian’s death as a homicide but declined to speculate on the cause of death. Authorities have also said a person of interest was in custody, but released no other details about his murder.

McMillian was a highly respected person in town, the 34-year-old Democrat wasn’t running what many would consider a typical campaign for political office in Mississippi, which is known for its conservative politics.

McMillian, was not only nice looking but he was promising. He had forged ties while serving four years as international executive director of the historically black Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity Inc. Photos on McMillian’s website and Facebook page show him with a younger Barack Obama, former President Bill Clinton and with U.S. Rep. John Lewis, a Georgia Democrat.

Authorities had been looking for McMillian since Tuesday morning when a man crashed the candidate’s SUV into another vehicle on U.S. Highway 49. McMillian was not in the car.

McMillian was hoping to win the office being vacated by Mayor Henry Espy Jr.
