Some have dreams of breaking into the music industry as an R&B entertainer or rap artist. Rarely are these dreams coupled with the knowing and/or negotiating the business side of it all.

Remember what happened to female talented group TLC (pictured above), who claimed that their music producer Perri “Pebbles” Reed had them sign a one-sided contract? The ladies claimed that they signed a management agreement with Reed, which not only gave her ownership of their name but an unfair percentage of their earnings.

It was also reported that TLC was not provided a copy of their original contract, they utilized the same attorneys and accountants as Pebbles when negotiating their contracts and ultimately had to pay her $3 Million Dollars ($1 Million per TLC letter) in order to obtain ownership of the TLC name. This was a lesson of them (TLC) not knowing the business, which played out in the public’s eye. This is why it is imperative that every entertainer or professional public figure have solid legal representation.

Minter_LawyerMy guest tonight, Entertainment Attorney, Kendall Minter, provides just that…information about music industry contracts, business developments and issues, plus recent legislation affecting the music industry.

Kendall A. Minter, Esq. (pictured here) is a professional counselor and has been practicing entertainment law for over 35 years and TLC could’ve reached out to him.

He has a diverse, global clientele where he provides legal counseling and presentation to artist, actors, producers, managers, song-writers, executives, investors, agents, playwrights, independent music labels, professional boxers, politicians, film-makers and radio announcers.

So tune in tonight at 6:30 p.m. on “Conversations Of A Sistah” via Blog Talk Radio as I delve into Mr. Minter Esq’s, new book, “Understanding and Negotiating 360 (Ancillary Rights) Deals”.

Poetry is a gift for some, with an expression of feelings and ideas by the use of distinctive style and rhythm. Poems are collectively a genre of literature, versification and metrical composition, it can be a spontaneous overflow of powerful feelings.

PoetryAt the most basic level, poetry is an experience produced by two elements of language: “sense” and “sound.” It is to evoke meaning in addition to thought and/or experience.

When I released my analog of poetry last August, it was a collection of  thought provoking experience throughout years.

Join me tonight me tonight at 6:30 pm on “Conversations Of A Sistah” via blogtalkradio.com as I kick off National Poetry month with a discussion of poetry and how it evokes thought and meaning. I will share some of my favorite poetry from my book “These Things” The Diary Of A Poet!

All “Conversation links” in this post will access tonight’s show.

Toni Braxton reveals abortion in new book.

Braxton_Toni

When are some of these celebrities going to realize, that some things you experience in life, you take to the grave and not tell the whole world. But I guess these confessions are all apart of remaining relevant in a business wrecked with the worst scandal is what sells.

So Toni Braxton had to reveal that more than 10 years ago, she had an abortion by her then-boyfriend, soon to be husband Keri Lewis, partly because she was on a heavy prescribed acne medication. In her new memoir “Unbreak My Heart” Toni admits she would’ve made the same decision even if she wasn’t on the medication.

Years after the abortion when Toni’s youngest son was diagnosed with Autism she felt God was punishing her for having that abortion. She believes that this was God’s way of reminding her of the fetus she had discarded and killed.

Braxton realizes that this may sound odd but says she “believed that God’s payback was to give my son autism”

Toni also questioned if God was paying her back by giving her lupus and with her parents messy divorce. The singer also reveals that her father married his mistress 30 days after her parents were divorced.

Toni’s book is available in book stores now!
