“Hot 97 DeeJay Gunned Down Near His Home”

A popular hip-hop deejay (Megatron, 32), who was also, a 106 & Park, TV personality was gunned down in cold blood; just steps away from his Staten Island home yesterday — and left with a single dollar in his wallet, law-enforcement officials said.

Corey McGriff, which is his real name, may have been distracted and talking on his cell phone, when he was shot in the chest around 2 am on Osgood Avenue near Vanderbilt Avenue in Clifton sources said. But McGriff’s mother believe that her son was in the wrong place at the wrong time, suggesting that the motive was robbery. 

Although there are no eye-witnesses to the shooting, police sources said they’ve all but ruled out a street stick up and are looking at several scenarios, including whether someone was angry over being stiffed on a debt owed by McGriff.

Three months ago, a person using the name “Megapayup” raged against McGriff on YouTube:

“Megatron, i use to think he was mad cool . . . I always helped him out when ever he needed it. . . . This one time tho, I was the fool. “Who hides and tries to dodge people they owe. . . . So u say ur not gonna pay the bill. . . . Bad shyt will stay happening to u, cuz you do bad.”

McGriff leaves behind 3 children: 11, 4 and 9 months old.

      Regardless of what he was doing, I highly doubt it was worth taking his life. That’s the problem nowadays, there’s no respect for life anymore, the moment some hot-head feels slighted in the smallest way, he’s ready to take a life to soothe his ego. Coward ass mutherfuckers!!!

      19. the police found his cellphone nearby. and if you watch THE FIRST 48, you do NOT want to be the last number on a dead person’s cell log. so the person he was talking to said he was on a weed run.

        sounds plausible that he agreed to meet the dealer across the street, gave the dealer the cash, and got shot. however, the seldom happens with weed.

        i just hope the little one didn’t see his dad get shot.

      All the “information” coming from this story is suspect at best. Why even mention whether they THOUGHT the child was there by themself?

      1. How do they know the child was home alone? The person could have fled after the shooting occured and the child was asleep.

      2. It was between 2am and 4am so the child was sleep anyway!

      3. HOW WILL THAT HELP SOLVE THE CASE????????

      Again, this the sort of chit they release to stop the public from pressing to get the case solved.
