This story sounds too much like what supposedly happened in the Sean Bell incident.
It is being reported that officers tried to contain several fights in the parking lot at Finnegan’s Grill, but Danroy Henry wasn’t involved in any of those fights when an officer asked him to move his vehicle, which was parked in a fire lane.
Danroy Henry, 20, (pictured above), a junior defensive back studying at Pace University campus, stepped on the gas, knocking a Pleasantville cop onto the hood, according to police.
A second cop tried to pull the officer off the hood but was knocked to the ground, when Henry continued to accelerate, the officer clinging to the windshield pulled out his gun and fired several shots, police said.
A passenger, identified as Brandon Cox, 20 – a childhood friend of Henry’s and a running back for Stonehill College, which beat Pace 27-0 in Saturday’s homecoming game – suffered a minor gunshot wound.
A third passenger, Desmond Hinds, a 21-year-old receiver on the Pace team who is from Stamford, Conn., was unhurt. The two cops were treated for minor injuries.
Hinds’ father, Desmond Hinds Sr., said the young men weren’t involved in the fight and called the shooting “senseless.”
“There were no guns or drugs or knives in the car and now somebody is dead for no reason,” he said. “They didn’t even know about a fight. They were waiting for two of their friends … There was no reason to fire shots.”

This is very sad, and I’m sure there’s more to this story.

Does anyone remember the woman about a month or so ago, who was pulled over in Nassau County & then took off when the cop got out of his patrol car? Well, if I remember correctly, she hit two cops with her car, went through three towns while the cops pursued her. Then she rammed 18 different squad cars before she was stopped & arrested. Now why wasn’t she shot to death? Oh wait, she was a white woman, my bad!

First of all, it is a tragedy when a young person lose their life in this manner. But a few questions must be answered, Why did the car speed away when the kids were approached by the officers. Not to say that cops don’t step outside their boundaries from time to time, but I was raised to respect law enforcement, if a cop approaches you, you respond to his requests. If this story is true and the officers acted using proper protocol, then what got the kid killed was his fault. We are living in a generation of kids that are being taught to question all authority, not respect, that is why these mindless tragedies occur. As far as the cops firing so quickly, when you have a 3,000 bullet coming at you, or you are on the hood of a car speeding away, your only defense is to use deadly force, after all, the person driving the car was using deadly force, intended or not. I say all that to say this, if and I say if the facts are correct, then we need to wake up and teach our young generation better.

@Valerie Perry, RIP sad story, tough to make an opinion either way with the details as reported above, regardless it does not take away from this tragic event.

@valerie, Standard police practice is to approach a stopped vehicle from behind the driver on the driver’s side. Had this procedure been followed, the officer would not have been hit by the car as it either backed up or accelerated forward. This reeks of the same cover-up as the gunning down of a young Black man, coming out of a club after his bachelor party, in Flushing, Queens, NY, two years ago. It will be interesting to see what the cameras on the patrol cars actually taped and what the by-standers claim actually went down.

@Fab1, something is very fishy about this story. I am sorry for the young man’s family, but a fair question would be why he decided to speed off if the officer just wanted to speak with him and kept at a fast pace? Obviously he tried to allude the officers but why? Another senseless death that should have never happened

Yet one has to wonder what was the young man thinking when trying to get away from the cops and almost or actually running over another officer? If things pan out as reported, it was a good shoot for the cops, bad for the young man. One went home and the other didnt! Again, when the nice poh-lice person says STOP, they mean STOP! Don’t be foolish

@Audrey, the cop had not been hit and was on the hood, he was hit by the side mirror and then shot. They fired eight rounds and four hit the kid. They then pulled him out of the car and handcuffed him and stood on him while he was on the ground bleeding, and the cops pointed their guns at and kept people back who were trying to reach him and try to stop him from bleeding.
LikeLike
@Ebony, If it is going slow enough for cops to “get hit” and stay on the hood, and other cops to catch it on foot, then it is going slow enough to get a car type and a license plate, even a description of the driver. The cop’s goal was to stop the car from leaving, and they succeeded. It sounds more like a college kid probably knows he should have not been there, or may have been involved and was trying to “sneak” away, vs. Speed away.
Again, story does not hold water.

either way damn! why shoot the kid.

@Audrey, Fact is look at the damn hood of the car and windshield. Do you see any damage other then bullet holes? The answer is no. If this young man hit a police officer going at a high rate of speed there would be damage of this and there isnt.

The police story differs from the witnesses at the scene. The witnesses said that the car was in a fire lane as the student was waiting to pick up a friend from a homecoming celebration. The police officer tapped on the window, and the student thought he was telling him to drive off. The police officer ran in front of the car, and began shooting. There were many witnesses (white students, not that it should matter, but it will) that said that the police shot for no reason. The students that witnessed the event were very emotional, and detailed in their retelling of the tragedy.
There is always a rush to judgement when it comes to African American males.

@Angel-hair, Just not rolling down the window should not be a death sentence. The student thought the police was telling him to drive because he was standing in a fire-lane. I can’t say that I wouldn’t have done the same. African Americans should not have to guess how the police will react to them in otherwise benign situations, but alas, we do…….
And, what about it “raises a red flag?” All accounts said that the student was a stellar student, vouched for by friends, neighbors, relatives, teachers, and coaches. The Pace Coach commented that “he was the best athlete on the team.” So, pray tell…Where’s the “red flag” again?

Most cops pick and choose how to enforce the law. Whenever a young person is gunned down by cops you should demand a very in depth investigation into the matter.

I agree Civil, cops can and do act belligerently, because they have the law behind them. And if you are black they can get aggressive very quickly due to racial prejudice. Most young black men have probably had a run in or two with police due to nothing more than racial profiling, and as a result, they may well panic if they are stopped even if they know they have done nothing wrong because of the way that cops behave towards them. The incident is really unfortunate, for both the police and the victim.
