Some of us just don’t live in the truth but live fantasies every single day to satisfy impressions or to sway opinions. One of the aspects of life that systems pays close attention to is that of roles.
What roles do you play in your life right now? We start out as son or daughter and perhaps a sibling. Later we become cousins, aunts, uncles, wives, husbands, mothers or fathers. Within our family of origin we play deeper roles: the responsible one, the lost one, the scapegoat, the mascot. Often these follow in the order of birth with the responsible one being the eldest and the cute one being the youngest.
There are many ways that people can influence our behavior, but perhaps one of the most important is that the presence of others seems to set up expectations and these expectations produce role play.
Social roles are the part people play as members of a social group. With each social role you adopt, your behavior changes to fit the expectations both you and others have of that role.
Think of how many roles you play in a single day, e.g. son, daughter, sister, brother, students, worker, friend etc. Each social role carries expected behaviors.
Join me tonight at 8:00 PM on “Conversations Of A Sistah” via “Conversations Live” as we explore the roles we play in life, real or fake?
