Trooper Who Arrested Sandra Bland Indicted For Lying In Police Report

A woman holds a poster bearing the portrait of Sandra Bland, a 28-year-old black woman who killed herself in a Texas jail cell on July 13th, during a Michael Brown memorial rally on Union Square August 9, 2015 in New York. Demonstrators showed support on the one year anniversary on the death of 18-year-old Michael Brown, an unarmed black teen who was shot and killed in Ferguson, Missouri by a white police officer, Darren Wilson, throwing America's troubled race relations into harsh relief. If he lied in the report, he’s lied about everything else!

A grand jury indicted Brian Encinia today on perjury for the conduct related to the contentious traffic stop of Sandra Bland. The black woman who was eventually arrested for assault and then died three days later in jail, allegedly of suicide.

Dashcam video shows the traffic stop quickly became confrontational, with Encinia holding a stun gun and yelling, “I will light you up!” after Bland refused to get out of her car.

Encinia is accused of lying about how he removed Bland from her vehicle.

The same grand jury declined last month to indict sheriff’s officials or jailers. This is the only charge Encinia will face. The grand jury failed to charge him with anything in addition.

  1. Is this really all the information you can give us? No juxtaposition of his statements and how he actually removed her? No explanation of how and when the info came to light, when and where he made the initial statements, or the filing of the charges?

  2. A woman dies because of at best, a misdemeanor and the cop who at minimum, starts the series of events leading to her death is ALSO – a misdemeanor? That’s the best the GRAND Jury has for us? And the worst part is no one is surprised.

  3. For his actions she would have been given a ticket like a white person and sent on her way.

But for his actions he would not have demanded she put out her cigarette in her car.

But for his actions he would not have ordered her out of the car slamming her to the ground.

But for his actions she would not have been jailed.

But for his actions she would not have died in jail and the jail personnel would have properly monitored when she said had a past instance of a suicide attempt.

But for his actions she would not be dead.

  4. Why did this take so long. It’s obvious from the trooper’s own dash footage he had no cause to arrest her. Her arrest itself was unlawful.

  5. Prosecutors are always reluctant to prosecute police officers for perjury because it can call into question any past case the officer has testified in, but with a national spotlight on the case they can’t afford to not criminally prosecute and fire the patrol officer. After all they have to worry about his credibility in any future cases as well as past cases.

  6. I’m white and so what? I believe in the TRUTH and equal justice for all. This cop’s report smells like a sewer along with the Grand Jury’s report(s) that were based on what they were told. Some thing is definitely missing and it’s called the truth!

  7. Why did it take so long to reveal what was blatently obvoius???
Based on how he removed her from the car on the vidio, he violated the law.
In fact, he should have just given her the ticket and let her go on her way. Why didn’t he???
