“Bishop Eddie Long Is Being Sued”

By two men for sexual coercion. This is a mess!!

According to CNN.com, two Georgia men have filed a sexual coercion lawsuits against Bishop Eddie Long, Pastor of the mega New Birth Missionary Baptist Church in Atlanta, GA.

The suits, filed Tuesday in DeKalb County, Georgia, allege that Long used his position as a spiritual authority and bishop to coerce young male members and employees of his New Birth Missionary Baptist Church into sex.

“Defendant Long has a pattern and practice of singling out a select group of young male church members and using his authority as Bishop over them to ultimately bring them to a point of engaging in a sexual relationship,” the suits allege.

Long took the other plaintiff, Maurice Murray Robinson, 20, to Auckland, New Zealand, in October 2008 for his 19th birthday and engaged in oral sex with him, Robinson’s suit alleges.

“Following the New Zealand Trip, Defendant Long regularly engaged in sexual touching, and other sexual acts with Plaintiff Robinson,” Robinson’s suit alleges.

The pastor took one plaintiff, Anthony Flagg, 21, on overnight trips to a half-dozen American cities in recent years, Flagg’s suit alleges.

“Long shared a bedroom and engaged in intimate sexual contact with plaintiff Flagg including kissing, massaging, masturbating of plaintiff Flagg by defendant Long and oral sexual contact,” the suit says.

 Art Franklin, a spokesman for the church, said Tuesday that “we categorically deny the allegations.”

“It is very unfortunate that someone has taken this course of action. Our law firm will be able to respond once attorneys have had an opportunity to review the lawsuit.”

According to CNN, both plaintiffs said the pastor, his church and church employees gave them cash and lavish gifts that ranged from cars to college tuition.

The suits also said that Long framed the sexual relationships as religious in nature.

“Defendant Long would use Holy Scripture to discuss and justify the intimate relationship between himself and Plaintiff Robinson,” Robinson’s suit alleges.

  24. The way this man butchers the bible, I’m surprised God hasn’t allowed Eddie to humiliate himself before now. God will not be mocked and Eddie long was playing up in that church. He had women of his church calling him Daddy. WTF? And his wife allowed that ish? Now let’s see if he does what the Bible says and confess his sins to one another. Doubt it. He’s gone hid this until these “boys” come with photographic proof, which I’m sure they have. I’m shocked his funny looking azz didn’t try and settle to cover this thing up. Did he really think he could suck a 20 year old off and not get busted? *pun intended*

    Who could really be shocked at this story? Eddie would be up in the pulpit with tight asss shirts and a process. SMDH! He was baiting the gay boys in. What about his wife? What is she thinking? Church is about to be empty.

  26. I don’t know hoooooowwww someone can “coerce” you into sex without your consent or permisson.

    Is it coersion when you change your mind AFTER? Why didnt they call the police immediately if what he did wasn’t permisible?

    Why is it not then called RAPE? If he didn’t have their permission to perform oral sex on them, why isnt he being charged with a battery and/or rape?

Im not condoning Long’s alleged behavior but ummmmmm ..unless this dudes were under the age of 14 when the alleged incidents happened, theres no case… At 19 you out doing sexual favors is not a crime and being forced…hard case to prove at AGE 19. Long is better off coming out of the closet and saying the sex acts were consenual… It saves lots of time and money, This too shall past Bishop…. I smell a settlement…

    1. I think it depends on the age of the victim(s) doesn’t it? I just tuned in to CNN so I’m not sure how old these young men are or were at the time of the alleged misconduct. If they were NOT at the age of consent, I would call it coercion. We shall see.

  32. I hope this is not true..For the simple fact that he have sons of his own and started at a young age. I have been a member here for 14 years and I truly think many people at that church look at him as if he is God. If this is true he will have to answer to God.

  34. Here’s what the ajc.com posted, the boys were 16 when it began:

    The plaintiffs, Anthony Flagg, 21, and Maurice Robinson, 20, began having inappropriate relations with Long at the age of 16, which is the legal age of consent in Georgia, said their attorney B.J. Bernstein.

    The men are seeking a trial by jury and unspecified damages.

    “It’s not just these two. There are young men around him at all times,” said attorney B.J. Bernstein said. “There are kids at risk now.”

    Bernstein said she has not contacted DeKalb law enforcement because of Long’s ties to DeKalb officials.

    Gillen noted Robinson was arrested in June 2010 in connection with a burglary at the church. Robinson and Anthony Boyd, 19, of Decatur, were arrested June 23 and charged with stealing items such as an iPad and an iPhone, according to a police report obtained by the AJC.

    Robinson committed the burglary in retaliation after learning that Long was involved with other men, including Flagg, Bernstein said.

    “He lashed out,” Bernstein said. “But if it weren’t for that act, we wouldn’t know about this. He talked to his friends and learned Long had other ‘spiritual sons.’”

  38. This should shock no one. It is happening more than people think. Stop living double lives, people. Be who the hell you are. If you didn’t feel something is wrong, you wouldn’t have to hide it.

    And, if this was some woman, nobody would be looking at her like she was a victim. People would have been like, ‘She took his money, willfully went on trips and engaged in sexual acts; and, now she is crying foul.’ ‘Ole girl wouldn’t be getting sympathy from nobody. I am with the person who said Long should just come out of the closet and prove these two participated in consensual, sexual act with him. I would love to know how long all this was going on. Something made them turn him up. Maybe, he found a new, fresh piece of ass. IDK. But, unless something is left out of this article, I am not seeing the crime here. These two are adults and nobody held a gun to their heads forcing them to do anything or go anywhere with this man. How can they explain it happening more than one time? From the sound of this, it seems like it has been going on for a while.

  40. I just read some story about a sex offender kidnapping and rapping a 19 yr old girl. She somehow managed to escape a couple of days later and was found on the highway; she was lucky because she was only malnourished and physically abused. Her ordeal was still horrible but I say lucky because he could have easily killed her. He admitted to rapping her and holding her hostage and people in the comment section were still saying she deserved it because she willingly went with him. Go figure.

  42. The boys’ attorney’s explain everything. Bishop was in a position of power. These were young boys (even though 16 is the age of consent in GA, they are still children in my opinion), impressionable boys whom he had been manipulating for quite some time. It’s not as though he propositioned them one day and they said, “yes.” He built a trusting relationship with them and took advantage of his power. It happens all the time whether it’s an employer/employee relationship, teacher/student, father/daughter (men who molest their children even until their teen years), etc.

    Even if these were women, I’d feel the same way. If Bishop is guilty, he needs to step down. JMO.

  45. i saw on the news that one of the boys accusing long of these accusations was also involved in the robbery of his church back in June. They say he did it (robbed the church) because long was involved with other men and not just him. wow.

  52. Well… Rezzie called Eddie out a long time ago. So many of these famous preachers have major skeletons in their closet and are preaching to get paid. They may have started with good intentions but didn’t stay focused on the “Word of God” and they will always fall at the hands of their own sins… I’m sure he’s humiliated but the truth will always come out. I feel bad for his fam and congregation but not him…

    If BEL actually did purchase a car for this guy, financial records will reflect this. BEL will have a hard time explaining why he purchased a car for this kid.

  70. I refuse to take sides….Always remember something don’t have to be true just said. I am a christian and I am fully aware that Pastors and Churches are under tremendous attack. If this is true he has blood on his hands. I pray GOD’s will be done. The bible does say that in the last days False Prophets etc will be exposed or his elect will be persecuted. I don’t know which side he is on.

  73. I am confused….so they filed a civil suit but not a criminal charge of rape? Or were they not raped but fell to the Bishop’s suggestion? Why does these guys seem like a scorned lover versus an abuse victim?

No one is perfect but I wish those in church leadership would think about how serious the ramifications are when they do things like this. For every person he has turned to Christ there will be someone forever turned away because of this and that is the saddest part of all of this imo

    He called himself God’s “scarred leader.”

    He also became known for his generosity. He would give out cars and money to strangers at church services. He built ministries to help the poor, AIDS patients and young people.

    He talked proudly about his ability to reach young men. He called himself a “spiritual daddy” to many of the young men he mentored at New Birth.

    He would pay the college tuition for some men, give business suits to others and play basketball and lift weights with his male ministers.

    Once, he even boasted to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution that some mothers at New Birth trusted him enough to bring their wayward teenage boys to him for paddling.

    “When I say bend over, even on Sunday, they bend over,” he said, referring to the boys he paddled. “Why? Because they respect me. Because I first died for them…”

    what the hell….. this is disturbing to say the least and these boys attorney will crucify him pun intended.
