“A Double-life, Men living on the downlow!” This Thursday on Conversations Of A Sistah

down-low-brothers

They date women out in the open, some even marry to fit into society’s mole of expectancy, then have homosexual relationships on the side; this is considered as “men living on the down low”. Then you have those single men, who keep the company of women, claim them as girlfriends, talk about marriage but never marry, another strong possibility of a “man living on the down low”.

These men identify and “Front” as heterosexual, but have sex with men; some avoid sharing this information even if they have female sexual partners. Some people call it being slick but I call it being SICK!!!!

In today’s society, homosexuality is frowned upon as living in the norm. Man on man action is considered a perversion regardless of how many rights and privileges they fight to obtain. Due to these fighting issues and strong controversies, men who desire other men live the life of homosexuality behind closed doors. They keep this life a secret because as a “male friend” of mine recently said, “they don’t want to be ridiculed or judged due to the opinions and belief of others”. For this reason down low men don’t want to be under the radar or ostracized for being GAY, so they stay “in the closet” or down low.

Ondrea FB

Pictured here, is the beautiful Miss Ondrea L. Davis, author of the book, “How could my husband be GAY?” Ondrea, 35, is not only an author and speaker but the mother of three children, who has penned this inspirational true story; not only because her husband was gay but because she felt “this was an issue no one else wanted to talk about.”

Oh but on “Conversations Of A Sistah” we’re going to “talk about it!!!!” This will be an explosive conversation that you won’t want to miss!

Ondrea has expressed, that she will take whatever questions you may have for her regarding this topic for the show. In fact, Ondrea “welcomes your questions” those questions within reason, of course.

So tune into “Conversations Of A Sistah” this Thursday night, December 6, 2012 at 8:00 PM on “Conversations Live“.

As usual you can sound off here or send your questions to Ondrea for the show at conversationsofasistah@readywriterproductincompany.com

You can access the show at any of the “Conversation” links in this post or follow the link for my show segment here!

Side note: The photo of the two men (in bed) above, are in no way related to my guest mentioned in this post or the title of her book. The photo was randomly chosen for this post, to fit my topic for this week; point…blank…period!

Alex Hargrove (AKA Lexy) …is the winner of tonight’s trivia question and will recieve a complimentary copy of Ondrea Davis’ book, “How could my husband be GAY?”

Congratulations Alexis! And thank you for tuning in!

I sent my questions to the show for Tracy (aka. we call her Blog Queen) cause I know you can’t answer them here Trace will come in here and SHUT US down But….this is my dedication to you gurl!!!!!

At first I was afraid, I was petrified,
kept thinking I could never live
        without you by my side.
But then I spent so many nights,
thinking how you did me wrong,
        and I grew strong
and I learned how to get along.

Oh go on now go, walk out the door.
        Just turn around now
        ’cause you’re not welcome anymore.
Were you the one who tried
        to break me with goodbyes?
        you think I’d crumble?
you think I’d lay down and die?

        Oh no not I.
        I will survive.
Oh as long as I know how to love
        I know I’ll stay alive.
I got all my life to live
and I got all my love to give.
and I’ll survive. I will survive. hey hey

It took all the strength I had
        not to fall apart.
        Just trying hard to mend
the pieces of my broken heart.

And I spent so many nights
        just feeling sorry for myself.
        I used to cry
but now I hold my head up high.
And you see me, somebody new.
I’m not that chained up little person
        still in love with you.
And so you felt like dropping in
and just expect me to be free
but now I’m saving all my lovin’
        for someone who’s lovin’ me.

        Oh no not I.
        I will survive.
Oh as long as I know how to love
        I know I’ll stay alive.
I got all my life to live

I’m looking forward to “Conversations Of A Sistah” this week. I’m excited and curious to hear this girl’s testimony. God’s design was for the male and female to produce offspring and obey His divine command to “Be fruitful and multiply, and fill the earth, and subdue it; and rule over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the sky, and over every living thing that moves on the earth,” (Gen. 1:28). He created us for a reason, and the “suitable helper” is just that, a suitable helper to carry out the commission that God stated. Homosexuality cannot fulfill that command and is a violation of the created order of God. That’s right!!!

  48. Ondrea “sugar coated” Tracy’s question I’m sorry. When a man wanna be with another man he is not going to have passion with a woman I don’t care if it is his wife. I think her husband used her esp. if he was struggling with his sexuality b4 they got married. I think he thought he would change the way he felt for a man but it just didn’t happen. now you have kids in the mix and that part was just Ugh!!!! Her kids don’t deserve to suffer for his decisions. He needs his ass whooped for that!

  49. Good morning ladies and gentlemen, I wanted to come back in early this am and check in before leaving out for work. I would like to say that I definitely can’t wait to come back to the show. We could not address all we wanted to in the half an hour session.

One of the reasons I consented to tell my story is to show the real deal about what happens in this situation. When you have not gone through this, it is very easy to say what should or shouldn’t be, what did or didn’t happen or what I should or shouldn’t have done. I totally respect everyone’s opinion, but one thing I try to get people to realize is that it is not always as cut and dry as it seems. The black and white answers that people may seek, they may not always get.

In my situation, I honestly cannot tell you what happened to my ex to cause all of this, I can give what is just my opinion. He has never manned up and had an honest conversation with me. He always told me that he wasn’t interested in men, even after we broke up. t talked about knowing your spouse’s patterns on the show and that is what I did. In the beginning, because of the amount of time we spent together, no I do not believe he was dealing with anyone else. But after he started changing up is when my suspicions were peaked. That is when I knew something was wrong, but some of the signs were not that he was gay. Most people are looking for me to say I caught him in some type of compromising position. I didn’t. And so many women don’t.

For a woman, many of us do not see all the signs people attack you for not seeing. I have been called everything from stupid to desperate for marrying a man I knew was gay from the beginning. Like other women, there were so many factors in my story that caused me to experience so much emotional pain and confusion. I was young when I got married, I was somewhat sheltered from my church upbringing, I was a stay at home mom with 3 kids under the age of 2 and at that time (the 90s) this lifestyle was not discussed much at all. It is not that easy to always pack up and walk away because you believe something is going on that you cannot prove.

As far as the sex goes, like with other factors, there are so many misconceptions there. I NEVER had a problem with the passion. Even after I left him, it still had not been proven that he was gay, but I still left him because he was doing something with somebody I was out. He continued to pursue me to sleep with me. So no, he never stopped trying. Never has there been a time that we were together and he was not performing as he always did or seem disinterested.

Hopefully, my story will bring out the point that the DL lifestyle is extremely tricky at times. The foundation of it is deceit. Deceit is not just “I’m not going to tell her”. It goes further. It says, “I am going to cover this up if it is the last thing I do.” They are not going do things that will cause alarm because they want to seem “normal”.

I know straight men do not understand this type of situation, but one thing I always point out is that men have ladies in their lives that they care about – sisters, mom, aunts, cousins, etc. – and it can happen to anyone. Not many of the women who have ended up in this situation set out to marry a gay/DL man. The reason this life is pegged DL is because they live in such a way that no one knows. They cover their tracks. They take up for each other. It is like a secret society and there is a brotherhood. We all should take measures to make sure we and the ladies in our lives are aware of what is going on.

Regardless of what we think and all of our opinions, this continues to happen too much and it is not because the women are stupid or desperate. It is because these men choose to deceive the people that love them. That’s the bottom line. And the children are the innocent victims that usually have no voice. The offer for the book is for those who want it, but even if you don’t buy my book, just allow my story to cause you to be more aware that this can happen. It is happening more and more. Just learn from my mistakes, keep your eyes open and don’t let it happen to you and your loved ones.

Sorry this was so long, LOL. That is all for now, but there is more where this came from. 🙂

Hope you ave a great day all!

Yeah you did say that on the show last night. why say it again? heck I believe you. I think your story is real deep and I don’t think it’s like the rest. I respect your tenacity to strive and the strength you’ve gained for your children.

1st I would like to say, I respect you, I respect your story and I empathize with what you went thru esp. because there are children involved. you are the author of YOUR BOOK, YOUR STORY and YOUR EXPERIENCE. You did an interview with our girl Trace who’s also an author. Please respect the fact that other people (who heard your interview) is going to have an opinion but you don’t owe them anything Boo. @ the end of the day it’s still YOUR BOOK, YOUR STORY and YOUR EXPERIENCE. We weren’t there you were. We didn’t live it you did!!! Remember that.

I knew when I was writing this that there would be differences of opinions and I am totally cool with that. I agree with Tammy; it is virtually impossible to understand all of where I am coming from unless you’ve been there. So, my goal is to get the information out there and give a voice to the many women who are too embarrassed or don’t have the platform. That’s all. I hope people learn from it and avoid the mistakes I made.

      6. Ondrea I’m not going to read your comment but I just wanna say this: The devil tricked your husband. Homosexuality is NOT OF GOD! And if you came from a ministry that was stong and grounded, your spiritual leaders would have tried to help him in order to prevent him from betraying you with his now chosen lifestyle. I’m sorry but your pastor failed you and I pray to God you are apart of another ministry. If a church can’t assist the whole man then why be apart of that church?
