“Levy’s Mother Knows That, Convicted Killer”

Ingmar Guandique may not have killed her daughter., Chandra Levy.

The Washington intern’s mysterious disappearance took down a congressman and captured the nation’s attention a decade ago.

Ingmar Guandique was convicted of first-degree murder for allegedly attacking Levy while she exercised in Washington’s Rock Creek Park in May 2001. Her disappearance made headlines when she was romantically linked to then, Rep. Gary Condit, D-Calif. Condit was once a suspect, but police no longer believe he was involved in her disappearance.

The mother of the Washington intern, Susan Levy said Monday that “she’d like to believe Ingmar Guandique is responsible for her daughter’s death”, but admitted she has a sliver of doubt.

Despite a lack of witnesses and no DNA evidence linking him to the crime, Guandique was still sentenced Friday to 60 years in prison. He was convicted in November of first-degree murder in Levy’s 2001 disappearance and death.

Sandra Levy then pleaded for the truth about Chandra’s murder to Guandique, “Did you really take her?” she asked. “Look into my eyes right now and tell me.” Guandique silently shook his head “No” in response.

I believe Guandique was the ‘fall guy’ in the Levy death and disappearance, simply because Gary Condit was desperate to be unrelated to this crime; after it became national news that he and the intern had been having an affair and she was rumored to be pregnant at the time of her disappearance.

I remember when Condit was found tossing things into a dumpster to get rid of evidence of their relationship?

    2. It is so hard to conceive how you can share intimacy yet care so little. Had Condit never been a suspect we’d never know about his affair with this young girl. It does make me wonder about his past affairs and if he really killed her?

how in the hell do you get convicted without witnesses or DNA evidence?

      1. The mother is being honest, saying that this person might not be the killer.

If you pay attention to the details, how he was convicted, based on No witnesses and no DNA evidence, I’m pretty sure she is right.

      2. If he is innocent, and there are no eyewitnesses or DNA evidence to prove he isn’t, then Condit is still suspect #1.

I dont believe Guandique is guilty either. He was prosecuted because they figured he was an easy mark for a conviction and no one would be up in arms over whether he was actually guilty or not. This case has been a black eye to the Metro PD and they just wanted it to go away.

How then did they get a conviction? Was this a rush to judgment by the jury?

      1. Condit knew, it would be the perfect place to leave Levy’s body knowing that Guandique had committed crimes in that area and would be suspected. sneaky ass.

      2. By the time they identified Ms. Levy’s remains, the DNA of the killer had deteriorated past the point where it could be tested.

This guy had attacked other women in the same spot where Ms. Levy’s body was found

  2. I’ve always believed that what happened to her was linked to Gary Condit. I still believe it – and I think that he “got away with murder” – he, or someone in his family. She was becoming a political liability, and the timing was just too coincidental.

I agree with you Ms. Bell
Guandique is definitely a scapegoat. The area where her body was found had already been searched thoroughly by men and cadaver dogs. They found nothing because there was nothing there. Someone had to place her body there after the search. Guandique, spoke no English and could not, in the begining get an attorney. I don’t know who his attorney was but I don’t think it was one of his choosing. Police fix cases, that is a reality.

  4. I can understand where Mrs. Levy is coming from. There were police screw ups, an elected representative with a lot to lose, a strange coincidence with an already incarcerated suspect; if I were Chandra’s mother I would still have my doubts as well.
