No I’m not talking about the Grammy awards this morning but instead how Justice Clarence Thomas has managed to keep quiet in the last 5 years.

According to the New York Times when the Supreme Court returns from its midwinter break and hears arguments in two criminal cases, it will have been five years since Justice Clarence Thomas has spoken during a court argument.

Justice Thomas’s epic silence on the bench is just one part of his enigmatic and contradictory persona. He is guarded in public but gregarious in private.

He avoids elite universities but speaks frequently to students at regional and religious schools. In those settings, he rarely dwells on legal topics but is happy to discuss a favorite movie, like “Saving Private Ryan.”

Justice Thomas has given various and shifting reasons for declining to participate in oral arguments, the court’s most public ceremony; stating that, “he is self-conscious about the way he speaks.”

In his memoir, “My Grandfather’s Son,” he wrote “that he had been teased about the dialect he grew up speaking in rural Georgia.” “He never asked questions in college or law school and was intimidated by some fellow students.”

A late pastor of mine once said, “When you don’t want people to know how dumb or ignorant you are, you just don’t open your mouth, you keep silent”.

      4. Supreme Court Judges should have a 10-15 years term limit. With the increasing life span we soon might have judges in their 90’s who have been in office for more than 40 odd years. Then we might need an Egyptian style revolt to get them to resign.

Thomas should be impeached for failing to report his wacko wife’s income, supporting her right wing causes, attending the secret meeting with Koch Bros., passing Citizen’s United, which his wife benefits from extensivel­y with her new little pet organizati­on.

        It’s obvious that they are ‘getting over’ and hi wife is using his title and position to futher advance their sick agenda!

  16. His interview on 60 Minutes was the most telling story I’ve ever heard. He came off as a man who is deeply scarred and hates the world because of what he’s gone through. His brand of conservati­sm reflects that. It’s scary that someone like him could rise to such a high level.

    And what makes him even more ludicrous as an appointee to the country’s highest court of the land, is that he would deny affirmativ­e action remedies to others coming out of a legacy of discrimina­tion.

    Clarence Thomas is a study in contradict­ions and not even an interestin­g one at that. He will go down in history as a joke!

    Why? Because God has a way of ‘dealing with people who don’t do right and who just ain’t right’ in HIS own time.

        Justice Clarence Thomas is a disgrace to the memory of Justice Thurgood Marshall, whose ideas and philosophy were a beacon of hope for this country.

        The man was not qualified to sit on the Supreme Court following his contention confirmati­on hearing in the early 90’s, nor is he qualified to sit on the Supreme Court today.

      He is not expected to speak in/or on the Supreme Court. He is expected to vote in lock-step with Antonin Scalia, Samuel Alito, and John Roberts.

      He is not expected to write opinions in the Supreme Court. His team of clerks are told to write statements supporting the majority and minority opinions written by Antonin Scalia, Samuel Alito and John Roberts.
