“This Is Ted Williams All Cleaned Up”

Ted Williams, the 53-year-old homeless panhandler who was literally plucked from obscurity on the side of a highway, is now an Internet sensation. A reporter for a Columbus newspaper uploaded a video of Williams’ gifted baritone voice to YouTube which went viral, garnering over 4 million views.

 The New York Post quotes Williams as exclaiming on local radio station WNCI, “The Cleveland Cavaliers just offered me a full-time job and a house! A house! A house!”

And he cried as he told CBS “Early Show” co-anchors Erica Hill and Chris Wragge:

“I’m gonna be going to New York, hopefully this afternoon… I apologize. I’m getting a little emotional. I haven’t seen my mom in a great deal of time. She doesn’t believe (what’s been happening to me). She’s 92. She lives in Brooklyn. I was born and raised in Brooklyn. … One of my biggest prayers that I sent out was that she would live long enough for me to see me rebound or whatever, and I guess God kept her around and kept my pipes around to maybe just have one more shot that I would be able to say, ‘Mom, I did do it before,’ — I might pass away before her or whatever, but my dad didn’t get a chance to see this. But God is good.”

  14. A big pat on the back for Mr. Ted Williams. It just goes to show how unappreciative all these idiotic celebs (a la Lindsay Lohan, et al) who dont realize what they have until it all disappears. That was a great line he did at the end with the Boston Red Sox. Brings you right back to the 40’s and 50’s. You really dont see announcers sounding like him in todays market. He’s old skool. He would make a great boxing announcer. I think he sounds better than Michael Buffer.

What a wonderful heartwarming story… When I hear about miracles (such as this) it confirms to me that there is a kind, generous & loving GOD within our midst… Plus, the fact that his 92 yr. old mother is still alive and able to witness his overnight success (from rags to riches, trust me he will blow up bigtime) just makes this story all the more endearing… Especially during these hard times!!!!!

  27. TSA stopped Ted Williams from getting on his flight from Columbus to NYC. He didn’t have ‘proper ID’. So Ted spent the day at the Columbus Courthouse, trying to figure out how to get a copy of his birth certificate. Obviously he did have some form of ID, but the TSA wasn’t satisfied with it. OK – What are we going to do about this out-of-control phony security dance? These blockheads, however, are typical of our society. Follow the little rule book, and throw common sense out the window. Wrong. No little rule book takes away YOUR OBLIGATION TO THINK FOR YOURSELF. There are times you have to make an exception. That’s “the exception that proves the rule”. It’s like the traffic cop giving the mother of the little girl in a coma in Las Vegas a ‘jaywalking ticket’ – gave it to her right in the hospital. Or the policeman giving a ticket to the Dad who raced to the hospital while his wife’s water broke in the car on the way to the hospital in New Hampshire. RETRAIN EVERYBODY OR FIRE THEM.
