“Aretha Franklin Had Gastric-Bypass Surgery”

The legendary Queen of soul, Aretha Franklin feels like a new woman one day after undergoing a successful gastric bypass/weight loss surgery.

“The surgery was highly successful,” Aretha said in a statement to Access Hollywood following the procedure. “God is still in control. I had superb doctors and nurses whom were blessed by all the prayers of the city and the country. God bless you all for your prayers!”

Franklin, 68, had the surgery yesterday following a Prayer vigil organized by the City Council in her hometown of Detroit, MI.

Last month, Franklin cancelled all concert dates and personal appearances through May due to undisclosed medical reasons.

    1. I wish Re Re well. I know a few people who had the surgery and they all had different results as well as side effects (some had none). Now she will have to make sure she eats well balanced meals and exercises because the weight can creep back up on her. Good for her.

Yeah- that was mean but I think the sammmmeee thing. I hit the gym regularly now. If I had access to the type of cash some of these people have- with a personal trainer & a nutritionist/chef on staff- I’d have the body I’ve been praying & working hard for.

        *yeah…I’m a little bitter.*

    1. It’s implied, otherwise why keep it a secret? If it had anything to do with her fall in the bathtub we would have been informed.

    1. @ Yvonne,

A very deep and hard co-sign to all that was said.

I wish to plead the fifth on this post b/c nothing I say will be nice.

70 years old and you finally decide to get rid of that girth?

Let me just exit the room b/c my TRUE thoughts are about to spill out.

    2. Joanne,
There could have been other health issues as to the reason she had to get it in, and couldn’t have it done sooner.

  3. Glad she took action about her weight. Although I hope she doesn’t think the sugery will fix her weight issues, you still have to develope a sensual diet and workout plan. You can’t get lazy just because your stomach is now smaller.

    1. Don’t Agree. Any sky god that heals the sick also afflicts the healthy. The sooner we stop believing in this superstitious nonsense, the better.

On another note, I wish Areatha Franklin a speedy recovery and hope she lives a long and healthy life.

    2. @Angel-hair, God does not afflict people.Clearly you do resent her faith. She’s neither an atheist nor an agnostic so your opinion does not matter. She’s not shoving her beliefs down your throat so a simple I hope you feel better Ms. Franklin would’ve sufficed.

and despite this girl’s (angel-hair) ignorance, we can’t put a match to her words.

  4. im not saying she did or didnt BUT… your quote is lifted exactly word for word from articles EXCEPT for the words “a successful gastric bypass/weightloss” Those words are listed nowhere in any articles. Where is your proof? Believe me.. I would LOVE to know that she did have one. I thought she was telling ppl she had pancreatic cancer and that was her ailment. What a horrible thing to lie about and gain sympathy from. So yes.. because she is fat everyone IMPLIED thats what the surgery was but she is using it to gain attention waay out of line. So.. queen blog.. what can you prove? Prove those of us wrng that now despise Aretha for implying her condition is cancer… not her obesity.
