“Newsweek: The Reinvention Of Al Sharpton”

Newsweek called the article: “The Reinvention of the Reverend” – That’s what you do when you change the appearance, the form or presentation of something, you reinvent it.

This is also what you do when the message is the same in a generation that has evolved.

The Rev. Al Sharpton has been called everything from a “race hustler” to an “attention seeking opportunist”., A political activist who is well misunderstood. But despite the criticism, the Rev. continues to stay the course with a goal to finish his race, not a race in a political arena per say; but the pursuit of finishing his God-given purpose.

In 1987, the Reverend Al Sharpton came onto the media scene with the highly publicized Tawana Brawley case, when he advocated for a teen who claimed she had been raped by a gang of white men, one who was supposedly a policemen. Turns out, Tawana Brawley lied, which changed Sharpton’s entire approach in the way he treated cases of injustice.

Sharpton has since toned down his image of, the gold medallion necklaces, his fresh set perm and neon hooded sweatsuits. Now apart of the Obama administrations team, regarding the high unemployment rate amongst African-Americans in this recession, one would think; this activist has made it.

The Newsweek article even delved into all of the things that some people (like my readers), have wondered about the good right reverend… such as; his income, his fame and his career path for the money.

But according to the Rev Al, “My mission, my message, and everything else about me is the same as always.” “The country may have changed, but I haven’t.”

So, the subject for this morning is: Has the Reverend Al Sharpton changed? I want to hear the opinion of my readers. 🙂

If you care, you can read the article in its entirety right here!
