“Baby Locked In Overhead Locker On Virgin Flight”

Natalie Williamson is suing Virgin Blue airline for locking her 17-month old toddler in an overhead bin on a flight from Fiji to Sydney.

Supposedly, Williamson’s husband was playing a peek-a-boo game with the toddler involving the overhead compartment when the flight attendant joined in, picked the toddler up, placed him in the locker and closed the latch.

Ms Williamson said her toddler, Riley was locked in the compartment for up to 10 seconds in complete darkness.

A Virgin airline spokesperson said “a thorough investigation of the incident was conducted and the staff member involved was subsequently terminated”.

The airline has offered Ms Williamson three free flights, but the mother has said she is too shaken by the mid-air experience to redeem them.

Ms. Williamson said Riley, now 20 months old, has seen various specialists since the incident after suffering from anxiety and withdrawal.

“He won’t leave my sight now. He sleeps with me. If I’m not in the same room as him, he will scream and yell ‘Mum, mum, mum’,” she said.

And although Virgin Airline has done everything possible to rectify the incident, even crediting Ms. Williamson the full amount of the two flights, she is still not satisfied. A Virgin airline spokesperson issued the following statement:

“The safety of our guests is our top priority and we do not tolerate any breaches of this”. “We have expressed our sincere apologies to the guest and have provided them with a credit for the full amount of the two return flights.”

In your opionion, has Virgin airlines done enough to redeem this incident for Ms. Williamson and should she still be suing the airline because of the indident?

      2. She is devastated because she thought Virgin would offer her a big payday instead they offered her flights. Virgin should reinstate the flight attendant.

  1. From what I read, everyone was laughing, it was a light heart-ed situation and the dad was playing with the child. The dad also did not stop the flight attendant. The child also was not screaming or having issues after taken out of the cabinet. The mother interceded with her overreaction with dollar signs in her eyes.

    2. Ya’ll both have a point but the flight attendant exercised poor judgment in this matter, I would have just STAYED out of the play and left it between father n son.
      End of story.

      2. You are correct. The FATHER was involved in a GAME with the child. The flight attendant didn’t just grab the kid and shove him in the over head… but had she not involved herself, she wouldn’t have #1, lost her job and #2, now airline bieng sued.

Sue the airline but I wouldn’t wanna lose my job behind it.

      3. No matter the game with the parents – it is not that the flight attendant joined in the fun. It’s that the flight attendant actually latched closed the door. It’s one thing to “close” it so that it’s only a tiny crack open, it’s another to actually lock it closed. she shoulda stayed out of it…

  3. The job of a flight attendant is not to play or involve ones-self in ‘peek-a-fuckin-boo’ game with passengers but to aide the pilot and assure the safety of passengers.

So her ass was dead wrong and should have been fired.

      1. would you want a doctor operating on you to DEVIATE from the rules in the middle of the operation and ‘play catch’ with the nurses??? A job is a job and playin on any job should be prohibited, esp. when it ENDANGERS another.

      2. There is a qualitative difference between fun and the misuse of overhead bins on an aircraft, and that is, aided and abetted by an irresponsible, unprofessional flight attendant. That’s never acceptable.

This is what’s wrong with the world today – overblown non-stories overshadowing real tragedies about children that are truly traumatized and need help. This woman is the one that needs therapy!

  5. So this post is all about “ten seconds in a game of peek a boo?” I think it was poor judgment on the flight attendant YES!!!! but this mother has hysteria issues or is looking to hit the jackpot with a lawsuit.

  6. The airline has apologized, made accommodations, the flight attendant has been terminated for playing with the child, case closed and it is time for the mother to move on and get over this non-issue. As a parent NOBODY, and I mean nobody, puts their hands on my child without either my or my spouse’s permission. This was a game that was being played and not one person was hurt in any way. This is so totally a non-issue that it is not even worth the flights she has been given in accommodation.
