“Serena Williams Hospitalized For Blood Clots”

Still in rehab for her foot injury, Serena Williams hasn’t played tennis since July, after stepping on some broken glass and having foot surgery. Now she’s been hospitalized for pulmonary embolism, a blood clot in her lungs.

On Monday, February 28, Serena “underwent emergency treatment at Cedars Sinai hospital for a hematoma she suffered as a result of treatment for a more critical situation.”

“Last week, Serena suffered from a pulmonary embolism (a blood clot in the lungs) which was discovered upon her return to L.A. She had been in New York for doctor appointments for the ongoing issues with her foot.”

Get well soon Serena!

  2. Wow! That’s serious! I hope she gets well soon. This may just be the straw that breaks the camel’s back and cause her to retire from tennis 😦

  8. Most injuries dont heal quickly if you discover you have Diabetes. She really has to be carefull . I wonder if any of those doctors prescribed what they use in nursing homes for bed sores. it really helps speed the healing process. You really have to take control of your health these days ..

  9. There had been whispers that her foot operation didnt go well and that she was infected and the strongest antibotics were not helping.

Serious enough that people were wondering if she would be able to play again.

    I wonder if its related.

    1. ASHANTI: I read the same, but whatever the outcome, I’m glad that God has spared her life. She’s one of the best – perhaps the best female tennis player in the world.

  12. Blood clots are serious because I had one in my leg. They caught mine in time before it killed me. Blood clots do not come from food you eat, but mainly from non circulation of your body parts, such as when she was laid up recovering from her foot surgery.

Huh? How could a blood clot in your lungs NOT be life threatening??? Interesting. Wishing her a safe recovery.

      1. Very dangerous but its fairly common when you have a broken leg. They probably gonna put her on Cumadin (blood thinner) and watch her… she can go back to her normal activities soon enough.

ALL blood clots are life threatening simply because they can move and get lodged in your lungs, heart or brain.

      2. A pulmonary embolism is a life-threatening condition and extremely serious. If the clot breaks free, it goes to your heart and kills you. The fact that Serena’s clot was found in time bodes well for her recovery but she isn’t out of the woods yet.

      3. She is so fortunate that the clot was discovered.
This is rather common after an injury and kills lots of folks.
