“Racist Abortion Ad Spark Debate”

An anti-abortion billboard with racist overtones was erected at the corner of Sixth Avenue and Watts Street, three blocks from a Planned Parenthood Clinic, and across the street from a public employees union hall in SoHo, New York.

The ad has sparked outrage among blacks, which is exactly the intention of the marketing company that created this ad campaign.

  1. I have been to that Planned Parenthood w/ a friend it is a cesspool for women wanting to terminate their pregnancies.

What gets me is people complain about women wanting to abort and would rather the women keep the pregnancy. Then those women that decide to go through w/ the pregnancy (some go on public assistance) and now they get ridiculed by those same people that wanted them to not have an abortion. This time they are ridiculed because they need government assistance. I don’t get it they can’t have it both ways.

    1. I agree. This is offensive…
So, are they trying to say African Americans should kill themselves? African Americans refuse to take prenatal vitamins therefore our children are at risk? African Americans has the highest abortion rates? I’m not sure what they are trying to communicate to the masses.

Nobody raises children anymore they leave it up to the tv, magazines, blogs, and other bull shit….

The most dangerous place is outside the womb to be raised by the world.

    1. It’s not racist. They are just trying to bring awareness to the fact that abortions of African American women make up for over 35% of all abortions while we only only make up for 14% of women of childbearing age. Something is very wrong with those statistics.

I’d rather for women to learn to protect themselves and avoid government assistance and abortion but I doubt I get what I want.

      2. @Mahogany: If that’s the case, why not print the statistics on the ad? Placing blanket statements on a huge billboard with a pretty chocolate baby on it and a message saying “the most dangerous place for an African American in th womb” is misleading. While there are other races that turn to terminating their pregnancy 2, why were WE chosen to place on the billboard (rhetorical question)?

      3. Here’s what the actual website says:

“New York, New York (Feb. 21, 2011) – A billboard that reads, “The most dangerous place for an African American is in the womb,” has been placed in the heart of SoHo by Life Always™ as a part of a new national campaign to expose the truth about how Planned Parenthood targets minority neighborhoods as they perform over 300,000 abortions a year. This particular billboard is about half a mile from a Planned Parenthood abortion facility. Life Always board member Stephen Broden said that Planned Parenthood has had a devastating effect on the sustainability of the African American population.”

They also go on to say that “abortion is the number one killer since 1973 in the Black community..we must confront a city with a near 60 percent abortion rate for Black women….”

The point is to get a rise and anger so that its being paid attention to. Now whether or not if this is the route that should have been taken I Dont Know however the stats has been out there for awhile and no one said a peep but I bet now people will pay attention.

Her intention in encouraging abortion in the black and other minority communities was to help us rid the world of ourselves which she termed “undesirables”. You can look her up and PP to find out the history of the group and its ties to the AA community. Why should the truth offend?

      AMEN.

BC has been around for years and is readily available and free at any clinic. There is no reason for us having 1000s of children that people won’t care for and killing babies. I wish our “leaders” would address the lack of sexual responsibility that so many of us have. Children are not weeds or accidents of nature. They are precious. They shouldn’t just be created and/or aborted on a stupid whim and racing hormones. We have got to do better and be more responsible.

There are ways to prevent pregnancy, if a night of pleasure ended with a broken condom then they have Morning after pills.

If you are on BC and you used a condom and you still ended up pregnant… it was just meant to happen.

My stance is don’t tell people what to with their bodies if you want to be able to do what you want with yours. God is the only judge

As far as public clinics, these stats may be true but has anyone taken into consideration the stats of people who have private insurance? The private doctors do not have to divulge how many abortions they have done if they don’t want to. If they did, I bet people of the other persuasion stats would be much higher than this.

  15. The reasons and the logic behind why a woman decides to terminate her pregnancy is absolutely none of my business as it’s a personal choice. This may sound extremely cruel however when it comes down to it, I would much rather people terminate their pregnanies vs raising children they don’t want and allowing my taxes to assist in rearing these children.

The intent of this billboard was to catch my attention. Ok, you’ve got it. Now what? What’s the next step? Is Planned Parenthood going to the schools and community centers talking to adolescents about how to PREVENT pregnancy? Are they teaching the women who have visited the clinic to terminate their pregnancies how NOT to become repeat offenders?

My comments is directed at the 98 or 99 out of 100 who use abortion as birth control and have unprotected sex as if they didn’t learn in MIDDLE SCHOOL OR ELEMENTARY SCHOOL that unprotected sex causes pregnancy! Even if a woman is a total idiot, who doesn’t know that unprotected sex causes pregnancy! I’m tired of the excuses. I personally know a man who has 9 children by 9 DIFFERENT women!! This kind of behavior is LUDICROUS. We either need to wrap it up, tie it up, cauterize it, give it a pill, an IUD, or be abstinent. PERIOD.

Planned Parenthood is not responsible for placing these billboards up, it’s an agency that’s against abortions doing this in the effort to bring PP down so that they no longer receive federal funding. The campaign has been going on for a while now. They had the same ad with a young black boy on it in Texas a few months back; only difference they’re not sugar coating it anymore by leaving out the words “African American.”

It’s a shame, they are doing all within their republican power to rob the poor; even send fake pimps into the clinics to try and catch them in wrong doing; just the same way they did ACORN.

Bottom line abortion is a choice and women have the right to it regardless if others don’t agree.

  19. What is missing from many of these “pro” and “con” abortion convos is the emotional toll abortions take on many women. We can scream, “It’s my body” all we want, but it’s not our body being ripped out of its protective home and being placed in some trash bag (or wherever the remains go) and discarded. The womb should be a safe place. That, to me, is why God made it. It’s a place of safety and nurturing. We carry these precious lives, our DNA, and legacy inside of us. The aftermath of abortions have wrecked havoc on many women (I know this for a fact).

I’m not going to tell someone what they can or can’t do (especially in cases of rape or incest) because God gives us free will, but I do know that abortion is not always cut and dry.

    – Any High School in Colorado cause those fools will come strapped

    – With their parents as they have a tendency to blow their damn heads off while their doing homework & on the drive home from school

    – In a bathtub as their mothers tend to frequently drown them

    – Near family members if in the backwoods because they inbreed….a lot!

First of all, speaking of stats, black Americans head almost EVERY negative list ever compiled: new HIV/AIDS cases, obesity, high blood pressure, diabetes, unemployment, teen pregnancies, high school dropout rate, men in prison. I’m sure I’ve left out a few maladies, like abortion rates. We have to face the music: it’s the choices that we make in life. Take a good, long look at this list, ALL involve choices. Hmmmmm, abortion, boy, now that’s a tough pill, a real tough decision but I’m pro-choice. Like I tell the young gals, keep yo legs closed or use protection cause many will get pregnant the VERY first time they have sex, maybe after just a minute of sex. It only takes one sperm out of millions. Is it worth it? Peace.
