I’ve said that many times before and I’ll say it again!
Until you experience the love and the closeness that she shares with her best friend Gayle, only then, will you be able to understand their relationship.
The talk show Diva opened up to Barbara Walters about the lesbian rumors that were circulating rampantly after she and Gayle went on this camping trip. Oprah went on to say that: “Gayle is the mother she never had. She is the sister everybody would want. She is the friend that everybody deserves,” she went on to say: “I don’t know a better person.”
Oprah, who broke down in tears while talking to Walters, told herself she wouldn’t let Walters make her cry, and that the reason those words brought her to tears is because she’s never said them to Gayle herself.
Oprah also addressed the persistent rumors that she and Gayle are lesbians.
“I’m not a lesbian. I’m not even kind of a lesbian,” she said. “And the reason why it irritates me is because it means that somebody must think I’m lying. That’s number one. Number two: why would you want to hide it? That is not the way I run my life.”

I watch a segment of that camping trip. I loved it. It was refreshing to see this side of Oprah. I saw two friends having fun, acting like sisters, a friend taking care of a friend like a mother would a child, and a very special friendship.

Sexual acts between two women is normal and healthy and doesn’t make either “lesbians.” I’m sure Gayle and Oprah have expressed their love for one another in a physical way and neither are lesbians.

Oprah is really lucky to have a friend like that, I’d love to find another woman who I could be that close with. I think it’s pretty sad that the lesbian rumors have to start just because two women are tight. There are things women can provide each other that have nothing to do with sex, that you just can’t get from a man.

Why is it that when two women are very close and friends, that some one thinks they are lesbians? I have a very dear friend that I spent a weekend with years ago and I heard some of the same things. We are soul sisters, sharing a lot of life’s experiences and always enjoyed each other and had so many laughs together. I treasure that friendship.
