“Swizz & Alicia Take Newborn To Doctor”

Alicia Keys and husband Swizz Beatz took their newborn baby Egypt (who was born October 14th) to a Manhattan doctor for his first check-up.

After handing the baby over to her mother, the couple spent a romantic evening doing a little window shopping and buying baby clothes in New York City.

Alicia Keys wears her post-pregnancy happiness well and I hope it lasts for her.

Egypt is Swizz Beatz’s 3rd child by now another women, whom he has made his wife.

    1. Yep @ Daisy and if my grandmother were alive today she’d be calling her all kinds a stankin heifers. My grandmother was EXTREMELY old fashioned and believed a women needed to wait atleast 30 days before showing herself in public after having a baby.

      1. I had to take my last born to the doctor at a week old. It was only across the street from my home, but I still was not ready to really be out and about, let alone expose my kid to germs so soon. LOL.

      2. My mama would have my azz if I was out that early after giving birth. Better yet she’d have my azz for having the baby out so early. WOW is all I can say.

Maybe it’s a southern thing or an ‘ole school thing but that’s frowned upon where I come from. 😦

      3. Congrats to the happy couple, I love me some A. Keys..

Never heard of the 6 week rule and I have 2 boys, a bigger blanket could help though its cold in NYC…

      4. A baby has a 2 day then 2 week appt before they go on that 1st year schedule.

I was at the doctor and HOME with my baby when they were small. Didn’t want to be away from them for a second.

Also at that young age my cooch was still wide open and didn’t need no air…my grandma said stay in the house for 6 weeks after giving birth or you’ll have a set back. What big mama says goes back in the old days…lol so I agree with Tra. 🙂

      5. After reading the other comments I guess that is just an ‘ole school rule then. It still doesn’t seem right. I wish y’all could see my face frowned up over here.

      6. @Tra/Anna/Jazz: Glad to see it’s just not me. My mother and kids’ father watched me like a hawk after I gave birth! If I wasn’t scheduled to go to the doctor for a checkup, you can forget about going outside. The only sun you will see was through the window..

      7. Yes the baby gets a regular check-up at about a week. You might take the baby back earlier if it is not eating or pooping.
I got that from my grandma who was a baby nurse over 15 years ago. I say to show you that this is very standard practice and has been for a really long time.
The blanket is fine. Usually celebs are going from the car to the door. No need to overheat the little baby or smother it in blankets. Look at what the adults are wearing. It’s not that cold.

      8. OKAY!!!! See, I know I’m not crazy. My mama would kill me out in dirty ass NY shopping and yes that monkey is wide open after that and you’re still all juicy and thangs (sorry to be so graphic)! I don’t even think I’d want to be out like that.

I’m not judging ‘ole A. Keys but it just seems a tad bit off to me *face is still frowned up*

      9. newborns often return to the doctor for their first check up within a week of their birth. Most babies lose weight in the first few days, so the check up is to ensure that the newborns at least weigh their “birth weight”. Birth weight is the weight they were when they were born.

That’s how it was for my two daughters after they were born; first check up within their first week.

In regard to the post; where is the baby’s stroller? Most infant carriers are equipped with a stroller; “Travel System” as it is called where the carrier fits inside of the stroller. I personally think that babies are more secure in the travel system and that the travels system is much easier to handle.

Anywhoo… Congrats to Alicia and Swizzy for a healthy baby!

        No kids here.

However- in my family- unless going to the doctor’s, the rule is always: mom & baby in-house for AT LEAST a month.

Ewww. Her vagina was probably damn near mowing the sidewalk as she was walking down the street shopping. *THROWS UP*

Anyway- Kaseem is already recruiting for babymama #5. Any takers?

      14. @Olivijah, no, not at all. Giving birth is a tramatic experience for any woman’s body therefore time is needed for your body to heal. It’s a little different to see her out and about mainly because the support system I had, didn’t allow me to return to a sense of normalcy until after my six week checkup. Not sure if it’s just a wives tale but to each it’s own….

      15. I was up and about making short shopping trips a week after my csections so she should be able to after normal delivery. I agree that there should be a blanket over that carrier though. I kept mine in a snugli on my chest with a blanket and would cuss anybody out who tried to breathe on us but there was no way I could drop everything and stay in the house for weeks just cause I had a baby

      16. @olivijah, hey chica and yes its too damn soon for her to be out and about. my grama said “ur puzzay is too damn open and if air comes in u will be in pain” so i stick to that she is the expert ***grama gave birth to 20 or 21 children cant memeber but 15 still here***

      17. @Ms. Everything, perhaps there is a difference in recovery time when the woman gives a vaginal birth vs a C-section. From what I see, those who had a C-section were out and about sooner than those who had the standard vaginal birth. I could be wrong.

      18. AKeys is taking this baby to the dr. I got nothing for this. I was just surprised to hear ppl still believe that old wives tale.

What do women in 3rd world countries do? Women without support systems and maternity leave acts?

Its great to be an American. For sure. We have no clue.

      19. Most believe that babies should be in at least the first month of life before being around the general public. The reason for this is that the child’s immune system has a chance to build where it’s able to become reistant to common germs. Also, not to be graphic or anything, but little girls should stay inside of the house (other than medical appointments) until their discharge ceases. I did not know about this until I had my first daughter. Of course this was all passed down to me through my mother, grandmother, & great grandmother ( Rest Her Beautiful Soul).

This is what I know to be true from my family ob-gyn. Normal activities being strenous activities, lifting older children, exercising, sex 🙂 but as far as like couped up because your body wont make it I have just always been told that its not true by medical professionals.

But yes, I agree my grandmom, mom, aunts…all said stay inside.

This avoids the inconvenient & inappropriate visit to the office TOO SOON. IT IS GROSS & I can verify. The healing time is a beautiful & necessary thing for both the mother and the baby & any REAL Dr. will take this into consideration. SHAME ON HER MOMMA/GRAMMA for not schooling her better than this…I don’t give a damn who she is!

    2. I’m glad my momma and daddy gave me a regular name without all the dramatics like some people I know. Its hard enough being black in America but when you give a child a “unique” name it makes it hard for people to take them seriously especially in Corporate America. If you have a ghetto name, they will already have their pre-judgements of you and think you’re just another black man/woman out of the ghetto.

    3. In reference to “Baby Egypts” name being a females name.. Last I checked Egypt wasn’t male or female thus anyone being named after it should’nt matter…. Secondly, when did Alicia and Swizz play by the rules of society..it looks like they don’t care what anyone thinks…..

    4. @ BBallen.. tht is so true!! Parents have to think of their children’s prospective future when naming their kids.

I almost cringe when I come across some of the kid’s names at my job or in my daughter’s class.

When I had children I made it a point to not name them anything they would be embarassed to answer to. Whether it was a “Ghetto” name or a name that was old fashioned.

As far as Alicia naming her son Egypt; that would not have been my choice for a son..or a daughter for that fact. But hey, it could have been worse!!

  4. Not judging just wondering what was up. I don’t have kids so I can’t call it. Some of the other commenters even said that what she’s doing is the norm as far as taking the baby to the doctor.

HOWEVER, I guess I’m from the ‘ole school b/c I seriously remember my mama not taking my baby brother out for at least a month and she didn’t move either. I was just told that was how it was done. That the baby was suceptible to illness and your cooch was to wide open and that you’d get pneumonia in the azz (not really pneumonia in the azz…I just like saying that LOL).

  6. I understand a baby has to go to the Dr a few days after birth, but let your body heal up first. It just had an tramatic experience and I am sure you stink right now. If you can’t sit down for 6 weeks at least sit down a good two 1/2. She will look silly, in 6 weeks swizz try to run up in it and the walls are collasped all out of shape. You can really harm yourself like that coming out to early. Take a break already. She was just on the same street two days ago pregnant, and here she is two days later.

Alicia, what you did was WRONG and disgusting and believe that you better pray for mercy on your soul because God was watching you on that fateful night when you were in the studio flirting with a married man, creaming up your panties for a man who had a wedding ring on his hand, a man who had a wife and son at home waiting on him, a man who you seen on the blogs with his wife and son so it was no mystery about his maritial status when you booked those studio sessions and paid handsomely for his time in the studio…im sure he doesnt come cheap

  9. I totally agree with the fact that it is WAY 2 SOON TO BE OUT & ABOUT WITH OR WITHOUT BABY! What Dr. requests a child to be seen this soon anyway? Isn’t it usually a 2 week checkup? The initial checkup is done IN THE HOSPITAL PRIOR TO DISCHARGE! Women want to move too fast these days. Right now she should be wrapped up tight & home with her feet up & baby on her side. This is indeed SLACK & I love AK…but this is lack of education & serious home training.

    1. that’s only if she had a c-section or an episotomy. usually after a vaginal birth they release mom and baby 12/24 hours later and it’s been that way for like 30 years. besides stars have always had nannies/baby nurses to help out or family if they came from a large extended one. a baby gets 39 shots in his/her first three years of life.
