“President Obama Appealing To Black Voters”

President Barack Obama’s name has hit the campaign trail hard because the democratic party desperately needs a win.

So for the first time in 20 months, Obama is reaching out to the black and independent voters whose passion and eagerness to make history, helped propel him into office in 2008.

“We need to finish the plan you elected me to put in place. And I need you. I need you because this isn’t going to be easy,” said Obama at a Congressional Black Caucus’ annual dinner last month. [link]

Obama has made it clear that a loss for the Democrats in November would be a devastating failure for him personally.

“Don’t make me look bad, now,” Obama pleaded at a rally on the campus of historically black Bowie State University last week.

“Two years ago you defied the conventional wisdom in Washington,” Obama told thousands of black supporters Sunday at a rally in Philadelphia. “They said, ‘No you can’t. No you can’t elect a skinny guy with a funny name to the presidency of the United States,’” he added.

But not everyone in the black community hears Obama’s rallying cry. There are some who are suspicious of Obama’s sudden interest in the black community — even if they don’t voice their suspicions out loud.

“We haven’t heard from you in a while,” radio host Tom Joyner said sarcastically to the president at the start of his interview last month. [link]

“You know, I don’t get a chance to do much radio these days,” replied Obama, who records a weekly radio address every Saturday morning.

“We know that people have short memories, but they have to remember that Barack Obama didn’t create this problem,” Carolyn Pinkney, an African-American voter, said at Obama’s rally.

“Of course there’s some disenchantment because the president came in with such high expectations levels,” said Rendell. “But on the other hand there’s still a lot of African-Americans who say, ‘Hey, he’s not superman and he can’t change everything in 20 months.’” [link]

  1. It only takes a few seconds to get into a car crash and break your leg, but it takes six months to heal that leg! America was in a constant car crash for 8 years and people expect it to be fixed in 2 years?

That’s stupidity in it’s greatest form. Some people always want a quick fix, want things handed to them, and refuse to do the work needed to change. smh…

*I-CO-SIGN***** – I don’t expect it to happen overnight either. I just want to see some things change for the better and not the worse. Change has happened just not in any area that I can completely say aligns with his original plan. Time will tell if he ever gets there. The upcoming elections are crucial to the remainder of his term being successful.

      1. @Ionna, that’s true BUT just because he wants to do something that doesn’t mean that it’s going to get done. He constantly has people rejecting everything her tries to do. Some people are just opposed to ANYTHING this man brings to the table.

    2. @adriane – That’s exactly why he needs the in house support. Dems need 70/30 odds and I don’t think they’ll get it, but close to that will help. It’s sad to say, because there is no bipartisanship. what they need is a complete overhaul/sweep – no option for anyone to shut it down. I think the original goals were important and doable. Potential will only take you only so far though, plan and execution is where the failure is coming in at, imo. I still believe though. I’m waiting and *PRAYING*

  3. Nice post Ms. Tracy!
I support Obama and his presidency I often ask myself what tangible things has he done for the Black community. Seems like the party is placating to the gays, the Latinos, moderate or conservate democrats, independent’s – and yet in still ignoring the real issues affecting OUR communities. Issues like healthcare, employment, housing, incarceration and the franchise.

Oh well, because I know that in the end of the day things would of been worse if Mcain was in office and that things WILL get worse if the Republicans make any significant gains in the next election. VOTE PEOPLE! VOTE!!!

  5. Our ancestors may have fought and died for the right to vote, but the evil elite powers that be still control who becomes president whether you like it or not. The rules of the voting game were changed once we were given the right to vote. In a sense, our ancestors died for nothing as far as voting is concerned.

DO NOT BE DECEIVED- YOUR VOTE DOES NOTHING.

Till folks pick up their weapons and overthrow the entire system, nothing will change and it will only get worse whether you like it or not.

The only way blacks ( and I aint talking about uncle tom blacks, fearful blacks, and house nigga blacks) will have any place in power is through BLOOD SHED, and a whole lot of it.

The fact that an electoral college exist is more than enough evidence to show that ‘they’ pick who they want.

I can bet you right now, that ‘they’ already know who the next president is. You don’t have to believe me…

    Time will be my proof.

Bush took office with a surplus and fvcked up for 8 years and left an over trillion dollar deficit to give to Obama.

What are you nay sayers expecting him to do put a bandage on the problem?

  8. Neither party does it for me, they both pander to their base and drag their feet on passing good laws. The Democrats have demonstrated how much in the pocket they are with the financial institutions as well. They also don’t have a spine. However, I still believe that they are the lesser of two evils. There is only so much Obama can do, he can’t mess this country up anymore than Bush did. I wish all of these socially conscious people were around protesting the wars before they happened and protesting the bad mortgages which started under Clinton….maybe we wouldn’t be in this mess 😦

This man was average in every way, surrounded himself by war mongers and couldn’t even string together an intelligent sentence let alone read a teleprompter, ran up the deficit killed and maimed 50,000 U.S. soldiers, killed over 2 million Iraqi’s and Afghani’s and yet Obama is the F*** up? I’m willing to give him a chance we’ve seen what the Republicans are selling and I for one don’t want to buy

    Dear Mr. President,

Could you please buy me a new car? Call the VA and get my contact info if need be. As a matter of fact, just add $30k or so to my next disability check and that should cover most of the cost. Also I would like for you to send someone to landscape my yard so that I can win Yard of the Month.

    Thanks in Advance,

  13. One of my biggest issues with Obama (outside of the fact that he kept touting “change” but never ONCE answered the question, “what KIND of change?) is that black people came out in FORCE, in record numbers, the biggest black turnout in the history of elections and not ONCE did he say, “thank you” or even acknowledge the fact that black people campaigned and sweat and brought people to the polls to get him elected.

I still have a problem with that – and while it’s true that I appreciate the HBCU monies… why wait until mid-term elections to start acknowledging the people who will defend your a$$ no matter WHAT?

Funny, Al Sharpton and his crew have been in every president’s face since I’ve been old enough to take tally – now that there’s a black man in the white house, suddenly there is no demand for things that affect the black community, nobody calls THIS president to task anymore, everything is all gravy.

Well, guess what? Since it’s all beautiful and everybody’s holding hands and hymn sangin for Obama – how do you go to the NEXT president and re-start your, “What about us?” campaign? If I were the next president, I would wave my hand and keep on keepin on the minute Al Sharpton did another grandstanding press conference looking for the “good” of the people.

If you don’t DEMAND equality and special provisions from the man who SHOULD be willing to give it up, how the F*CK you gonna go to a white man and demand it?

And THAT, ladies and gentleman is the problem with giving people a pass, for no other reason other than their skin tone.

We are doing no more or less than the Bush supporters did in arguing and “supporting” the man simply because of who he is and not what he’s done.

PS: I voted for Obama by default (Sarah Palin sewed it up for me)

    1. @CeoDawg, I’ve heard him give grattitude many times. To everyone! Not just the black community because the black vote is not the only vote that got him into office! Blacks only make up 12% of the population. They didn’t put him there by themselves.

Also, why should he thank you for doing what you’re supposed to do. You’re supposed to go out and vote for the person that you feel will best support what you feel is right and just. No one should have to thank you for that.

Vote because people died so that you could have that privilege!

      Vote because it effects you!

Vote because you want America to be better!

      Don’t vote looking for acknowledgment

      1. Keep telling yourself that bull$hit when he’s NOT in office! If you Kook Aide drinkers didn’t believe that the president didn’t owe you something, then there would BE no Al Sharptons and Jesse Jackson’s.

REALITY: Obama was ABSOLUTELY voted in because of the black people who voted to get him in there. I PERSONALLY saw people who hadn’t voted in YEARS at the poles. I saw people in WHEEL CHAIRS, sick people who were near death making sure that they got a chance to vote. I PERSONALLY know someone who checked herself out of the hospital so that she could vote, she voted, went home, caught pneumonia and DIED three weeks later.

When people come out and go above and beyond to support YOU (regardless of the fact that they’re SUPPOSED to vote or not, you STILL owe it to them to acknowledge the fact that they got you there) How INSANE is it to NOT expect the man who got the biggest black turn out in the history of voting to NOT say, “I want to give a special thanks to the African American community for coming out in RECORD numbers and I want to encourage you to continue this trend of bringing out your friends, family neighbors and children to the next election and everyone after that!”

That could have served as a teaching moment as WELL as a “thank you”.

My 14 year old has a RESPONSIBILITY to take his a$$ to school and get good grades – and I thank him for doing HIS part every chance I get so that he NEVER forgets or gets lazy about it!

Say all that after his one term a$$ is good and gone – cause it’s amazing to me how you “politicals” have no complaints and immediately want to call to task anyone who DOES have a QUESTION of the BLACK president with be amongst the FIRST to complain the minute he’s REPLACED.

*And mark my words, get yourself a huge cup of that Kool Aide to quench your thirst for a LONG, LONG time because after you get finished touching the hem of Obama’s garment THIS term, he’ll NEED my portion of that “12%” to get back in there because they’re coming out in FULL force this time, Love.

      2. @CeoDawg, like I said earlier, he showed much grattitude and has stated on several occasions that he was grateful for all of the support from young voters, minorities, and first time voters that turned out in record numbers. For him to single out the black community as being the sole reason he got into office is a slap in the face to ALL voters who aren’t black.

Say what you want but I don’t drink kool aide boo.

That’s like going to work doing what you’re supposed to do and then telling your boss “You better thank me for eveything I do around here”. Yeah go up to them and tell me how that turns out…

I don’t understand why people want a certificate, a cookie, and a star by their name for DOING WHAT THEY ARE SUPPOSED TO DO IN THE FIRST PLACE.
