“Burning Qur’ans Are Just Not Necessary”

U.S. president Barack Obama has finally weighed in on the planned Qur’an burning story that has drawn attention from all over the world.

The plan to burn 200 Qur’ans by the Pastor of a small church in Florida to commemorate the anniversary of Sept. 11, has sparked worldwide outrage and condemnation.

In an interview with ABC’s Good Morning America which aired this morning, Obama called Rev. Terry Jones’ planned bonfire a “stunt” and he cautioned that burning the Qur’ans would prove a bonanza for al-Qaeda recruitment.

Pastor Jones dismissed the criticism from politicians and religious leaders, saying his message targets the radical Islamists who continue to plot terror against the United States.

Asked his feelings on the matter as president, Obama said, “well, it is frustrating. Now, on the other hand, we are a government of laws. And so we have to abide by those laws. And my understanding is that he can be cited for public burning, but that’s the extent of the laws that we have available to us.”

A Christian congregation in Germany on Thursday distanced itself from Jones, its founder and former pastor. Stephan Baar, one of the leaders of the Christian Community of Cologne, said the congregation split with Jones in 2008 over differences in the way the church was run.

“We distance ourselves very clearly from the actions that are taking place (in Florida) and also from the person himself and unfortunately we really regret what is happening there,” Baar said in an interview with a CNN affiliate RTL.

  35. last i checked islam was a religious belief followed by people of different races and backgrounds. you cant single out a whole religion based on what a small percentage of them do. it is the second biggest religion in the world if they was all crazy then it would be a battle going on now because they could easily all turn on us.   50. To each his own. Here is a bit of history for you……In the 1700’s some countries that practiced Christianity were left behind. There were not influential in war or maintaining their country or religion. Many believed that it was because of their “soft” nature. They believed in forgiveness and love enduring all..probably didn’t help when they faced opposition about their religion, because it was taught that one should not argue about religion. Keep in mind that this was a time when war was common and necessary.

    Sounds familiar??? History repeats itself. Ironically, we were once a Christian nation and considered to be a great power to awe. Opposition was faced but we prevailed.

Anyone can call themself a minister but if what they are teaching goes against the Bible or any other religious teaching then they are obviously a goat in sheeps clothing. Sometimes I think that these crazy religious people are paid to act a fool to disgrace a religion especially for people who are closed minded and quick to lump everyone in a box. Doing this will not prove a point but to make people mad and get him some attention. They are one of the biggest war criminals there is right now yet somehow its okay. And now that they are out of office their followers are starting the most ignorant disprestful unconstitutional and bigoted arguments and fights and getting away with it just like they did. Bush may not have been the mastermind behind 9/11 but the fact remains he KNEW about the threats, KNEW about al quada and what they were capable of and instead of immediately going after the one behind it (Bin Laden) they started a meaningless war in Iraq giving him the time to escape. The US is so outraged over 9/11 yet those in charge knew it was coming and had the power to do something about it but they did nothing and then after the fact they led the bulk of our military on a wild goose chase founded by lies! That is all fact! Its not about hating this country and wanting to leave but democracy in the US has been dead a long time. We are hated around the world because those in power are hypocrites fueled by greed who’ve been bullying everyone who doesn’t agree with them forever but wants to cry foul when the same is done to them.

    the Bushes funded a lot of Sadaams projects up until they got mad at him, its come out in numerous hearings so far that they knew their were no WMD’s, they knew that their was no reason to go over there, they lied about everything they told this country, never received any kind of punishment for their actions, and they or close friends/family serve on the board of nearly every oil, weapon or like company that has profited from this war that began on lies and greed. We’ve been in Afganhistan how many years yet bin Laden hasn’t been found… mind you Bush knew the Bin Laden family, was photographed with him and everything…. there is undeniable proof that Bush, his daddy and especially Cheney’s crooked diabolical ass began all of this to get what they wanted by using this countrys fear and anger after 9/11 but since they are white and well connected they will never pay for that. They are one of the biggest war criminals there is right now yet somehow its okay. And now that they are out of office their followers are starting the most ignorant disprestful unconstitutional and bigoted arguments and fights and getting away with it just like they did. Bush may not have been the mastermind behind 9/11 but the fact remains he KNEW about the threats, KNEW about al quada and what they were capable of and instead of immediately going after the one behind it (Bin Laden) they started a meaningless war in Iraq giving him the time to escape. That has NOTHING to do with them being white

Picture this people: It’s the year 1814, you live in the U.S., you are a slave, your children and grandchildren are slaves, your husband and siblings are slaves, your best friend and her best friend is a slave.
