Nicole Paultre Bell and her children will receive 3.25 million in a wrongful death lawsuit against the city as apart of a wrongful death settlement.
As part of the $7 million settlement, the city will fork over $3.25 million to Bell’s family estate.
Bell’s friends, Joseph Guzman, 35, who was shot 11 times, will receive $3 million and Trent Benefield, 27, who was hit three times, will get $900,000.
They might not have received justice in this case but those settlement figures and amounts should surely give them some “peace”.
But the good right Reverend Al Sharpton chimed in with this statement: “They must all provide for their families, but this in no way mitigates or repairs the permanent damage done to them and the pain it has caused them forever” – “Nor does it diminish the outrage in the community.”

OK so BELL was unarmed? My understanding was that Bell was armed with a motor vehicle with which he attempted to murder a police officer, prompting the police to respond with deadly force. I sort of wonder why they didn’t shoot out the tires, instead of filling the passengers with bullets, but it’s hardly a situation of an “unarmed” man.

‘Tis my understanding that there was no attempted murder of a police officer. The un-uniformed cops jumped in front of the car as Bell and his friends attempted to flee from who they thought were random guys with guns. Obviously, the details are cloudy, as is often the case when cops kill. But even if Bell had come at the cops with his car, the force used was absolutely excessive. At least one of those cops nearly emptied two clips into that vehicle. Very unnecessary. And since when do bullets stop cars anyway? The thing would still roll even if the driver is shot.
Anyway, may he rest in peace.

According to the officers, they did identify themselves. According to the witnesses/suspects/victims, they did NOT identify themselves. The judge believed the officers… which tends to happen without evidence to the contray… especially when the witness has a long rap sheet.
