Now Bishop Eddie Long and his accusers have agreed to a mediation instead of a public trial.
Mediator Ellen Malow states “Almost all mediation when the case settles neither side gives any admission of guilt or responsibility, this is standard in any settlement agreement.”
Some legal experts say this looks like an admission of guilt while others say this is not the case. I think so, anything can be decided on when a case is in mediation (i.e., no future book deals, a gag order, sealed records and files, a substantial amount of money) and the list can go on.
Long is being sued by four young men who say’s he used his power and influence to coerce them into a sexual relationship.
He denied the claims in a court filing even though he admitted to taking them on trips, giving them gifts and sometimes sharing hotel rooms.
If a settlement agreement is reached in a private mediation, we may never know the outcome of this case.

Why would a man who has been accused of homosexual behavior with young men, enter into discussions to consider settling with his accusers, when he has categorically denied the claims made against him? This has HUSH-MONEY written all over it and if the people of New Birth don’t see this, then they remain blinded by the devil.
In my opinion, this is very bad for Eddie Long and for the people at New Birth.

This is why the young men’s defense attorney released so much of their civil case to the media/court of public opinion. She knew Bs. Long and New Birth would push for a quiet, closed-door settlement. She gambled that releasing humiliating details and photos would force Long to up the ante. He’s going to get away with it, but this time his ministry is going to pay dearly.

“New Birth Missionary Baptist Church, which is also listed as a defendant in all four lawsuits, said in its formal response that it could neither confirm nor deny the sexual allegations, although it confirmed that Long took the four men on trips.”
From the New Birth Association website:
The Father’s House is an organization of pastors (some from different denominations) who have chosen to submit to Bishop Long as their spiritual father, while the New Birth Church Association is comprised of churches that serve as extension campuses or satellites of the parent church in Lithonia. Many of these pastors were active in the local New Birth congregation and have been personally mentored and groomed by Bishop, who later sent them out to plant a church in a specific area.
There does not appear to be any indication that Mr. Long answers to any governing body, nor is recognized as a Pastor by any governing body.

Every other pastor within his network is accountable to him, but to whom is Eddie Long accountable to? To God, yes, and His authority, yes, but he is also to be an example of submission to another leader, so that he does not go astray and bring a reproach against Christ and His church.

I also found it “odd” that Long compared himself to “David”…but anyone who knows the fullness of David’s story knows that David was also GUILTY of adultery and setting up the man to be killed to hide his sins. We can trade biblical allusions all day.
Which brings me back to my point. This is about truth, about innocence, not a court verdict.

But let’s take this one step further. Long is already on record as to “fighting” these allegations. “Fighting” is not to be confused with mediation. The accusers are already on record as seeking a solution OTHER than filing a lawsuit. The only change in direction is with Long. An innocent mind acts accordingly. As a lawyer I find it odd (feel free to rebut this) that the more prudent course of action for an innocent man with more financial means than four young men is mediation.
Assuming that the truth is on his side. Yes, it may be more EXPEDIENT, but again, Long can’t have it both ways. He can’t publicly proclaim INNOCENCE, that he will FIGHT the allegations and then decide to pay to make it go away out of the sake of expedience.
Can’t have it both ways. And given my experience as an attorney, the terms of the mediation if successful will be sealed.
How convenient.

I’m just amazed how he got his congregation snowed. I guarantee you he hasn’t lost too many members. I am so tired of these ministers condeming sin but they are deep in it themselves. I think they will settle, but I also think the flock may stay. This is not a church. It’s a business and it’s members often benefit from relationships formed at New Birth.
God exposed Eddie Long as a fraud. The signs were there, but folks ignored his actions: the homophobic rhetoric, the wigs, the muscle shirts and fixation on young men– what a contradiction.
Now God has made it plain. Anyone denying it, is simply pretending. Eddie Long is homo, he likes sleeping with teenage boys and he’s a fraud.

Everyone was saying wait until the trial. I said from the beginning, as a man of God their shouldn’t have to be a trial for him to say whether he did it or not. There have been too many accusations, and you can’t say I’m “not guilty” of these charges.
Another thing that bothers me, is the fact of the published book “Snakes In The Pulpit” in 2007 that name Bishop Eddie Long in it. Accusing him of the same exact thing as these young men are. If you’re a public figure, and someone defame your name and character, wouldn’t you take legal actions? He never said or did anything. This implies it must be true.
My next question is how can Dr. Bernice King accept this and not say anything as a lead pastor? Because this mean he has cheated on his wife, even if it was consensual, which I seriously doubt at least with this case. But that doesn’t mean he doesn’t partake in a lifestyle that he has consensual sex with men. Which is another problem because he is telling his parishioners this is a prohibited lifestyle.

Bottom line: Bishop Long can be judged by God …and God only. No one else can judge or condemn him. Hypocrites! We all commit sins everyday…aware and unaware. And one sin is not worse than the other. Fornication, adultery, lying, backbiting…and the list goes on. Even insulting someone is a sin. I use to pass judgement on folk…until I was told to learn how to have some compassion and take a look in the mirror at my own faults.
