Billy Porter wore a tuxedo gown to the 2019 Oscars – and raised eyebrows

Actor Billy Porter sparked praise and outrage when he wore a black crushed velvet tuxedo gown designed by Christian Siriano to the 2019 Oscar Awards in Hollywood on Sunday. Twitter users were in a frenzy, expressing praise and admiration for the openly homosexual actor who stars in “Pose” on FX Network.

Porter was accompanied to the Oscars by his life partner Adam Porter-Smith.

Vogue magazine explained:

“The custom creation by designer Christian Siriano included a sharply tailored tuxedo jacket overtop a full-skirted strapless velvet gown. A play on masculinity and femininity, the look challenged the rigid Hollywood dress code and was boundary-pushing in all the right ways.”

What is masculinity?” Porter said in an interview with Vogue on the red carpet. “What does that mean? Women show up every day in pants, but the minute a man wears a dress, the seas part.

Many Black men took to social media to voice their outrage over what they perceive as the left’s ongoing campaign to emasculate Black men via the media.

  1. I really don’t care but I will say this, Black men are supposed to be strong and powerful like Kings, not dress like women and prance around. One thing I do know is, that if U are g*y live your truth BUT stop downplaying your Masculinity by allowing today’s society to feminize YOU and the black male race.

  2. For me, this wasn’t about pushing a beta male agenda, it was just unattractive. He’s not the first man to appear in women’s clothing or something deemed “effeminate” or just looking a bit quirky, but this is not cute IMO.

  5. He can wear what he wants. It does not negate black male masculinity to me because if I want that I look at Samuel L, Larry Fishburne, Denzel etc. It depends on where you are looking for that. Let people live.

    1. Few things. First off, that is not his partner. That is his legal husband. They on purpose got married in a hurry after being off and on for almost a decade…before Trump got sworn in. Said they wanted to do it before his hateful against the gays ass got in there.

      1. If seeing a man in a ballgown is a threat to your masculinity, your masculinity is unstable and fragile AF. And that has nothing to do with Billy Porter or his big ass ballgown.

Good for you. I read somewhere the reason why blk men are pissed is because this is a representation of blk men 🤦🏾‍♀️..Wonder who’s wearing a dress next. O_o

  6. I agree to a point..but who runs hollyweird and deliberately puts out this kind of imagery of black people that is exported globally? This picture will show up 8000 miles in another country as representative of black manhood. This is not just about individuals, it’s about group dynamics. Who really controls the black narrative? Blacks or jew-ish run hollyweird, mainstream media & the music industry? Let’s be real about it.
