Joe Jackson, patriarch of the Jackson family, dead at 89

Joe Jackson, the father and longtime manager of the famed Jackson family, has died at 89. He passed away at 3:30 a.m. according to TMZ.

Jackson had been hospitalized earlier this month.

Jackson is infamous for being a strict father who guided the careers of the children he made a household name.

  5. Though Joe was stern he had a vision, which resulted in his children becoming mega stars. Parenting, and life doesn’t come with a book; make no excuses. Rest well Joe😢

  8. RIP JOE JACKSON! It’s nice that Janet did the video that included both her parents, I saw it as closure for her or evolving!

    Parents come flawed, some more than others, but no matter what, the love is almost always there, and this family is grieving!

  16. All I can say is God doesn’t make mistakes on the parents you get or you wouldn’t be who you are as a person. In the olden golden days parents were strict and used the rod because that is what was taught to them. My mother whipped 7 kids none saw the inside of a prison all are still alive. Her teaching sprung forth 27 grand-kids only one passed due to the street. The rest are Principles, lawyers, law enforcement officers, Marines, managers, and truck drivers.. none in jail..I can go on and on so RIP Joe respect to any elders..the end..

  20. He lived long..made his family superstars met his grand-kids and remained married all this time to his wife. He lived a long fruitful life. A lot of ppl dont even see 65.

  21. Evil always lives long. I don’t care that his stern rearing of his children resulted in mega-stardom, they are all screwed up in the head. Money and fame is not everything.

  23. You can’t convince me he wasn’t an abusive asshole. I think everything that has been said about him and then some is true. I think the family had to sugarcoat things for the public image. I’m sure he did love his family in his own way, however, love and good intentions doesn’t make up for your bad behavior (and I think bad is an understatement in his case). He was a human being with a family so I’ll still say RIP even though I don’t have any real feelings for him. I hope his family has some closure and healing.

  24. His parenting styles were extreme. Can’t tell me those children were/are not traumatized. Yeah, they have money and fame, but let’s look at the price they had to pay and still paying

  26. He was from that generation that whipped and yelled at their kids, but he also provided for his 9 kids and didn’t abandon them. He gave his kids a way out. I give credit for that. RIP

      I do not know why people want to say that just because they were whipped with belts and switches it was abuse. my mom and dad whipped us the same way, but at that time it wasn’t frowned upon as abuse but structure; a precursor to getting our a$$es in line. I am glad to say that I am glad that we got our a$$es tore up because if not, we wouldn’t be who and what we are today. good ole fashioned a$$ whippings saved the day for the Jackson clan, too.

    3. Some of the most accomplished people we know have gotten their ass whipped in one form or another. I bet MLK got spanked and his daughter said he never spanked his children;oh but one time he did. Whatever, her ass got spanked!

    7. Black folks forget that the abusive beatings as a form of discipline stems from slavery. I don’t believe in beating children and I made sure I married a man who felt the same.

  35. I’ve got nothing but respect for Papa Joe. This kind of Black man hardly exists today and is the core of the break in the Black family unit. 89yrs is a long life and he was truly blessed..
