“I don’t want to be associated with oppressing black men. I don’t want to be associated with telling grown ass men what they can do and cannot do.”
Diddy has quit the NFL.
The 48-year-old rapper has frequently spoken out about his dream of owning a football team — and even put in a bid to buy the Carolina Panthers before eventually dropping out — but he’s lost all interest now that players are required to stand for the national anthem while on the sidelines.
The NFL’s new policy, announced last month, required players to either stand for the “Star Spangled Banner” or stay in the locker room. Anyone who kneels will face a fine.
The rule comes amid a protest against police brutality started by Colin Kaepernick that has since spread league-wide. The 30-year-old quarterback, who hasn’t played since the end of the 2016 season, is currently suing the NFL for collusion.
President Trump has also been vocal about the players who have kneeled, encouraging owners dealing with a protester to “get that son of a bitch off the field.”
The NFL Players Association, as well as several current players, reacted negatively to the new rule, a move that Diddy defended.
“Y’all in a messed-up position, but this is a defining time and if Ali and all them was able to do it, if Jim Brown was able to do it, if y’all stick together, they can’t break you,” he said.
Even though Diddy’s dream may be dead, he still knows how he would have dealt with this situation: “My players could have done whatever they want.”
The players should start their own team.
They can do it👊✊
