Religious Belief or Discrimination? Tonight on “Conversations Of A Sistah”

The Supreme Court ruled in favor of the Colorado baker who refused to make a wedding cake for a same-sex couple on the basis of his religious beliefs.

Critics argue the baker’s decision to deny service based on a couple’s sexual orientation is discriminatory, and therefore illegal. But religious freedom advocates say the baker has every right to not bake a cake that goes against his religious beliefs, and a private business should be free to refuse service to anyone. Is this considered discriminatory?

Critics argue businesses are not legally allowed to discriminate, so why should this case be any different? Could a business refuse to bake a cake for a black couple? No. So why shouldn’t same-sex couples be allowed the same protection?

You’re free to believe whatever you want, but you’re not free to refuse service to someone because of who they are. In this case, the baker is refusing service to the gay couple because of who they are. They are engaging in a gay marriage ceremony because they are gay men who want to get married. It’s fundamentally about who they are as people. Is this is discrimination, plain and simple?

Freedom of speech and freedom of religion do not exempt business owners from public accommodations laws, which require them to serve customers equally. However, the Supreme Court ruled in the bakery owners favor.

Not everyone is in favor of same sex unions, on that note, we welcome your opinion.

  1. Legitimate reasonable religious beliefs need to be respected. I wouldn’t expect a Muslim baker to bake my pork pies for me

FOH like seriously…waste of time energy and resources…

    1. They’ve sued others, like this couple, who wouldn’t label their gay expressions on a finished cake. Therefore, this required the couple going all the way to the supreme court to fight not only for their Freedom of Religion under the US Constitution, but for the fact that the lower leftist court was so one-sided in cutting them off from responding to the claim that it was unfair.

-it’s a deliberate act [or agenda] to specifically target those conservative or private Christian Schools & bakeries to start something for a lawsuit. smh

It’s no different than forcing their way into bathrooms, showers & prison cells meant for girls and women. Then, hollering discrimination. What about the fact that they are men who still have their penises & scrotums that can rape girls & women or expose themselves as such in those showers?? ijs

    2. Imagine about 17 years ago, homosexuality was still criminalized in some states. We’ve gone from there to legalizing gay marriages. And as you wrote, men can now use the women’s restroom. The next on the agenda is to compel private persons to accept their lifestyles. And who knows what may come next? They may then criminalize heterosexuality.

everybody don’t accept this lifestyle so they need to get over it.

    4. Baking a cake is not participating in a ceremony. If that is the case I HOPE he is screening the morals of EVERYBODY he makes cake for and every event..:checking and making sure he isn’t doing a Bachelor Party cake where there are gonna be strippers or a Birthday Party that will have alcohol and drugs!

People need to be consistent. That man sins EVERYDAY just like everybody else. Everybody wants to boycott and fight against the sin they don’t have an issue with and excuse theirs and scream…”My Morals!”

  3. Take the Gay Cake else where.. it’s that simple!! The man has a right to refuse baking ANY type of cake.. why don’t these fruit loops realize that 🤦🏽‍♀️😩😂 And before ppl come for me, I have nothing against the gays.. their life their choice.. MY opinion 🤷🏽‍♀️

  4. The baker did not want to put two male dolls on a wedding cake. He has the right to refuse to do anything that violates his religious beliefs.

  5. I had a family who allowed a friend to pick up the kids from daycare. The friend was a lesbian. She and her gf would come in the daycare and kiss in front of children. They have the right to express their love as they see fit, just not in my daycare. Now, I mean that for all folks in the center, if you aren’t kissing your baby hello or good bye tame your lips.

I stopped letting them enter the school area and stopped them at the lobby because they wouldn’t stop the foolishness. I made a new policy no one who isn’t the parent, grandparent or sibling can enter the rear.

    1. I think as a social norm we’ve become so sexualized that we’ve lost civility and class. Everyone wants their love & lust on display because they have a right to be who they are, so they need an announcement audience. Notice me, notice us, we can now do this and you better not say anything. the moral decay of our minds is heavy. They can be who they want as adults but have some class and dignity. Don’t be low rent.

  6. According to the Supreme court and I agree. The baker cannot be forced to use his artistic skills on something his religious belief goes against. Such as putting 2 men on top of a wedding cake he made and then blessing the cake!

  7. How is baking a cake supporting gay marriage?

You’re selling a product that he already produces.

No one is forcing him to do anything he doesn’t already do.

Can you tell me what the difference would be between a cake for a gay couple and a straight couple?

    None!!

    2. They are not cowards. They are wiser than liberal trying to find ways to trap & manipulate others to bend & spin for a win. 😉

They are a well-known Christian Bakery who celebrates the sanctity of a Holy Marriage as it relates to what is described in the Bible. Did not The Holy Almighty GOD our Creator above all others say that HE created them male & female (man and woman) to join together in marriage (Holy Matrimony) & procreate or to be fruitful and multiply.

Did GOD not say what he abhor and call an abomination? Did he not say do “do not partake in this or that and come you from among them and separate yourselves from sin and follow me (spiritually)?” -What does the Biblical Christ Jesus has to say about it all?? -and both have Conservative, not liberal, views on their teachings & expectations of us. Anything else is the opposite or tied to a different type of god.

We can’t blame that couple for practicing their Right and Freedom of Religion protected by the US Constitution. -SCOTUS had the last say on that matter!

    3. If they aren’t cowards why don’t they place signs outside their businesses specifying which services they will provide with which people?
      *********
Because people would be offended and they would let their friends know and they would avoid the business which means less money.

  12. Did Christ refuse anyone salvation?

These ‘Christians’ are using the Bible to discriminate against people something Christ would never do.

I just hope God judges you by the same measure you judge others.

  13. This is different from the hillbilly marriage license clerk who refused to marry gay couples. Jack is not a public servant. He is a private biz owner. I don’t get why they just couldn’t find someone else to do a cake and caused all this stink for him.

Tracy your commentary was on point with this.
But what people seem to forget is, that as a private business owner, he reserves the right to refuse service to ANYONE for ANY reason. That said, he didn’t refuse them service, as he offered to make them a cake for any other occasion. If it was that serious, why couldn’t they have just taken their business elsewhere? Why did the ACLU feel the need to jump in and get lawyers etc?
