Al Sharpton Embraces Stephon Clark’s Brother & Slams White House for calling shooting a ‘local matter’

SACRAMENTO, CA – MARCH 29: Rev. Al Sharpton (L) is hugged by Stevante Clark during the funeral services for police shooting victim Stephon Clark

The Reverend Al Sharpton is not impressed with the White House’s response to the police overkill of an unarmed black man in Sacramento, California. 22-year-old Stephon Clark was shot 20 times after he was spotted hopping a fence into his grandmother’s backyard during a police foot chase.

Clark is suspected of attempting to break into a car and a home on 29th Street on March 18. Police say he fit the description of the suspect who wore a black hoodie. Two pursuing officers claim they mistook his cell phone for a gun.

Sharpton supported Clark’s family, including his brother Ste’vante Clark, at Clark’s funeral on Thursday.

The reverend condemned the White House for calling the police shooting a “local matter” rather than a federal rights violation.

“They have been killing black men all across the country,” said Sharpton. “We are going to start standing up. It’s time to stop this madness. We will make Donald Trump and the whole world deal with police misconduct. Stephon Clark has woke up the nation.” If the killing of Amadou Diallo didn’t wake this country up 19 years ago, it never will.

  2. People grieve differently and the pain he will be going through right now will be immeasurable so him and his whole family have my sympathy and empathy, but where did he get the bell from? Who comes prepared to a TV interview with a bell? His parents or an elder need to take the helm he is turning it into a circus, the way he’s drapped onto Rev Sharpton I can’t make head nor tail of it.

Al Sharpton does not go unless the family contacts him. if he calls that’s rare. But he will only GO if a family calls

  7. I think his brother has been a little extra but we all handle the death of a loved one differently. And how many of us had to do that with the media following us around and some people telling him that his brother deserved what he got and if your brother wasn’t doing x,y,z, he still would be alive.

      1. That’s what insurance is for… Helpless was a man who was EXCESSIVELY shot 20 times, even though he was in the wrong. I don’t get people distraught over the loss or damage of material possessions 🙄

True. They need to justify the kill. when the bottom line it’s bullshit. Look at the cops in BMore planting fake guns on the black men they kill. Smh fucked up.

      3. They reported he was a social deviant with a long criminal record, but that shouldn’t give grounds for summary execution by the police.

Until the police force is held accountable, deaths like this are going to continue. It’s sad but it’s reality.

Smh .. when is this ever going to end like? damn!!! are they not tired of killing people for absolutely nothing?? ..every time a cop kills a person unjust .. they need to plaster his face all over the media in shame and take all his checks and give it to the Victims family..every last dime .. it won’t bring the Precious lives back but something has to give ! All I’m going to say is this is a sad situation but it’s even more sad that you got this Coon call Al Sharpton up here perpetrating like he here for black people but he’s getting paid by the white man to calm us down but you guys don’t realized that. If you think I’m lying ask how much Al is getting paid to do the eulogy or to even be there. Sad day

  13. The police union needs to be addressed. That’s how they are able to get away with these shootings. People are scared to address them because of the voting power they have. It needs to be pressure put on the union.

  14. This is terrible smh. I can give them the we thought he had a gun story if they only shot him 2 times. But they shot him 20 times smh. Like they want was in a shoot out smh. That is terrible.

People can not expect change if they only go hard for a short while and then wait for the next shooting to go hard again. This needs to become an everyday thing.

Unfortunately, it has not; these incidents have been in the news every single month. The white house are telling us what we’ve known for years…that white folks as a whole don’t give a damn about us & dont want to be bothered about the subject. Did you hear the tone that sarah sanders made that statement in?
