Self Hatred Is Real Tonight on “Conversations Of A Sistah”

Tennis star Serena Williams is the topic of conversation these days, since getting engaged and pregnant by Reddit co-founder, Alexis Ohanian. And according to the greatest female tennis player and quite possibly the greatest female athlete of all time, out of all the men she’s dated, the white men especially her now fiancé, have treated her better than the Black men she’s dated. Many are saying, it’s self-hatred when you marry and pro-create outside of your race.

We’re all entitled to our opinions because you can’t control who you love or can you? But when you cohabitate and pro-create outside of your race, is it self hate? When you long to have mixed children because you want your children mixed breed, is that self-hate? Do you look in the mirror and hate the person staring back at you?

        My husband is White and I am Black and I constantly get asked what made me choose someone outside of my race. I always reply that God made the choice for me and He did such an amazing job, better than I ever could have done on my own.

  9. I think you fall for who you fall for. There are some people who look for certain qualities in an individual as a reason to hook up or procreate. You hear it all the time, light skin, blue eyes, good hair. It’s ignorant to think this way but a reality.

  13. The blogs went in on her as well as other racist with regards to her being engaged to a white man who don’t even look her type. She and Common were off and on plus he cheated on her. Which is so unfortanate because they look good 2gether but even he was light bright. I believe she does hate herself and thinks hooking up with a light man will give her cute babies and that’s what she wants. That’s her end game.

  14. If we’re not taught to love ourselves we can easily be tricked into a false hood of what love should be especially when we hate the face in the mirror. For the record the few black men Serena did date don’t equate to a whole damn race. Halle Berry said the same damb thing!! And still got dogged by her white prince.

    And yes we can control who we love, date and marry. Her comment was and is bullshit !!! But we all live and learn and her ignorance will cost her.

  19. Wow some of these comments are strong. Guess the conversation is all GOOD as long as i don’t stress about hooking up outside my race. All nationalities are marrying outside of their race so Serena’s choice really shouldn’t be an issue. Who she chooses as her life partner is her choice.

    Is she suppose to sit around and waste her youth waiting on some black man to decide that she is worthy? Love who you love and if a white man treats her better than a black man, the shame is on the black man, not her….do better black man! I don’t think she should stay single and childless waiting on a black man and regardless to what race she procreates with…the baby will be BLACK.

    Qualities that go beyond the level of melanin, like integrity, honesty, a strong sense of family and value of marriage, commitment, love, affection, little-to-no drama, and loyalty led me to my choice in a white man that I love and cherish.  For the first time in my life, I picked character above color, and I will not ever apologize for that.

    But here’s a warning–if you’re dipping your toe into interracial dating because you want pretty babies, think it will augment your social status, or that ALL black men are unworthy, you’d best re-think your position.  This is shallow thinking, and any relationship based on anything remotely related to these reasons will be doomed from the start.

    Self-hatred was not my reason. In fact it was just the opposite. My man worshipped me and that was important to me because I think highly of me 🙂

A recent Pew Research Study revealed that only a puny 43% of black men marry, and of that percentage, 22% of them marry non-black women.  Yet these men are still celebrated and welcomed into the fold, we black women will protect and defend them to the death, but when a black woman does that same, then it means we hate ourselves? Palease!!!!!! Who’s willing to wait on a black man to decide? Black women moving on.

  24. I’m an advocate of black love & on a personal level, its all I believe in. I don’t bash or judge anyone else for their preferences. I think the only time you can be a self hater is if you are making derogatory remarks and/ remarks that equal to self hatred. There’s a difference.

    But hey, to each its own. That black love tho. It’s nothing like it.
