The movie clips and commercial promotional for this movie gives the impression that it’s strictly comical, which is a strong misconception. The message is heart-warming, endearing and underlying clear.
Danny Glover (Walter), patriarch of the family, is a retired automotive engineer who lost the love of his life one year earlier. Now that the holiday season is here, he invites his four grown children and the rest of the family home for a traditional holiday celebration. Walter knows that if his daughters Rachel (Gabrielle Union) and Cheryl (Kimberly Elise) and sons Christian (Romany Malco) and Evan (Jessie T. Usher) can spend five days together under the same roof without conflict, it will truly be a Christmas miracle.
The cast is superb! Their performances elevate the message which comes across in the movie…And Monique (as Aunt May), steals the show.
Directed by David E. Talbert, this story touches on marital infidelity, drug dependency and compassion for others, are among the topics of the dramatic threads in this movie, and for the most part, outpaces the serious message in the subplot.
