Should LeBron James Lead A Sit Out For Tamir Rice?

On Monday, the prosecutor’s office announced there would be no indictment against the cop who shot Tamir 2 seconds after exiting his patrol car on Nov. 22, 2014.

Twitter.com activists have since pressured LeBron to lead a sit out protest of the entire Cavaliers team.

Using the Twitter hashtags #NoJusticeNoLebron for #TamirRice, the activist are urging LeBron to use his platform for justice for Tamir Rice.

But not everyone agrees.

        I agree w/you…..but these young rappers, artist and athletes today don’t have no heart. Look at Ali he was an activist for what was wrong and he fought racism in his heyday. So did Ossie Davis, Ruby Dee and Harry Belafonte. He just hasn’t hit home for a lot of them. If Tamar Rice was their sons, cousins or lil brother then you would see an uproar. Right now they don’t give a shit they too caught up in the politics of it all.

  2. Not everyone is an activist. Lebron James is not an activist. I’m certain he will generously donate to the cause. But as a consummate professional athlete he will not and should not be asked to or expected to interfere with his game and professionalism.

  7. Mm LeBron is caught between a rock and a hard place. There would be so much more results if these entertainers and athletes started to rally around all these young black men murdered by police. But to take a stand means fucking up ya base, ya money and possibly ya white fans and i think that’s why the majority of them remain silent.

  8. I don’t know about this…. that’s a LOT of pressure to put on one person. but also notice that it’s not just him; there are other athletes, politicians, and leaders. Also, I don’t think it’s right to suggest that if he doesn’t take on this issue, then that proves that he’s forgotten ‘where he came from’ …not everyone is cut out to be a “leader” in every situation…

  10. My thoughts on LBJ sitting out is…it won’t make a difference, the decision will not be reversed; and it would cause LBJ problems that he shouldn’t have to face because the corrupt system will continue to annihilate Black citizens in the USA.

Maybe these ‘twitter activists’ could take a more direct approach and reach out to Tamir’s immediate community and help them begin to organize. do they have a police review committee? are they registered to vote? do they have effective representation in local government? obviously, none of this will bring Tamir back, but neither will LeBron refusing to do his job…

  16. Nothing’s going to be done. They can protest and kick and scream but it’s not going to happen. Very rarely are police prosecuted and jailed. They have to do something hideous, like those LA and Chicago police who were selling drugs and giving gangs insider information.

    You have to prove “intent” to murder….first degree is going inside a person’s mind and showing he intentionally wanted to kill someone. Cops don’t do that. They act on instinct.
    That’s what people don’t get.

  18. Players in Miami wore hoodies for Trayvon in 2012. They won a championship that year too. Dude up top was there. He shouldn’t sit out. Maybe some other statement. Bc if you protest for one…then welp.

  29. Idk what to say about said topic. LeBron has a platform but he also has a contract. Anybody telling him not to play willing to pay his fines? cuz I ain’t got it! How about instead of not playing, people don’t buy tickets etc. Their bottom line is what matters. Even if he sits others might not. They have backup players. A WHOLE TEAM. Some players aren’t getting close to Brony boys financial figures. So???

  33. I’m wondering where Tamir got that fake gun? A 12 year-old shouldn’t be roaming the streets alone. They can’t vote, they can’t purchase cigarettes or alcohol, and they shouldn’t be expected to navigate the streets by themselves.

      Tamir first of all wasn’t wandering the streets alone. He was with his 14 almost 15 year old sister. And they were at a park less than half a block, from their house.

      They weren’t navigating the cold hard streets. They were at their neighborhood park where it has been said, they were frequently.

        The 55 year old mother who was shot death while opening the door for Chicago police officers, was an innocent victim.

        Tamir, however, was carrying what appeared to be a weapon. He was also pointing it at civilians. Apparently, Tamir’s behavior was so alarming, it prompted someone to dial 911.

        The violent death of a child always sparks strong emotions, but you really need to consider the facts.
