Should LeBron James Lead A Sit Out For Tamir Rice?

lebron-james-produces-first-ever-nba-fashion-show-for-all-star-weekend-1103070-TwoByOneTwitter activists are pressuring Cleveland Cavaliers star LeBron James to stage a sit out until the prosecutor’s office indicts a cop for the murder of 12-year-old Tamir Rice last year.

On Monday, the prosecutor’s office announced there would be no indictment against the cop who shot Tamir 2 seconds after exiting his patrol car on Nov. 22, 2014.

Twitter.com activists have since pressured LeBron to lead a sit out protest of the entire Cavaliers team.

Using the Twitter hashtags #NoJusticeNoLebron for #TamirRice, the activist are urging LeBron to use his platform for justice for Tamir Rice.

But not everyone agrees.

What do you think?

      1. I want them ALL to sit out. They cower when the modern day slaves (athletes) stand for something.
        Hope y’all had a wonderful Christmas ❤😘

I agree w/you…..but these young rappers, artist and athletes today don’t have no heart. Look at Ali he was an activist for what was wrong and he fought racism in his heyday. So did Ossie Davis, Ruby Dee and Harry Belafonte. He just hasn’t hit home for a lot of them. If Tamar Rice was their sons, cousins or lil brother then you would see an uproar. Right now they don’t give a shit they too caught up in the politics of it all.

      3. Good morning Fellow Bloggers 😛
Maybe LeBron’s statement is on its way. He’s done a lot and said a lot. Maybe he has a little more in him. I’ll give him some time.

  1. Not everyone is an activist. Lebron James is not an activist. I’m certain he will generously donate to the cause. But as a consummate professional athlete he will not and should not be asked to or expected to interfere with his game and professionalism.

  2. Mm LeBron is caught between a rock and a hard place. There would be so much more results if these entertainers and athletes started to rally around all these young black men murdered by police. But to take a stand means fucking up ya base, ya money and possibly ya white fans and i think that’s why the majority of them remain silent.

  3. I don’t know about this…. that’s a LOT of pressure to put on one person. but also notice that it’s not just him; there are other athletes, politicians, and leaders. Also, I don’t think it’s right to suggest that if he doesn’t take on this issue, then that proves that he’s forgotten ‘where he came from’ …not everyone is cut out to be a “leader” in every situation…

    1. Idk Lex., But I do know, Cleveland has some of the cheapest tickets in the league. Average ticket cost is $40. So maybe a few.

  4. My thoughts on LBJ sitting out is…it won’t make a difference, the decision will not be reversed; and it would cause LBJ problems that he shouldn’t have to face because the corrupt system will continue to annihilate Black citizens in the USA.

  5. Uhhhh I don’t know if he should refuse to play BUT I pray he doesn’t say that he has decided to play FOR Tamir Rice. That will indeed piss me off.

    1. Children might be killed in these inner cities erday but you know that what you said didn’t make no damn sense right? IMO they all need to boycott?

  7. Lebron is from Akron, Ohio NOT Cleveland. Why do folks always try to pressure celebs into doing stuff. He is only one person geesh and NOT obligated because he is from Ohio.

  8. You can’t do one thing for one cause of the same nature, and ignore it when it comes to your front door. In that case he, nor the Heat shouldn’t have done it for Trayvon Martin.

  9. Maybe these ‘twitter activists’ could take a more direct approach and reach out to Tamir’s immediate community and help them begin to organize. do they have a police review committee? are they registered to vote? do they have effective representation in local government? obviously, none of this will bring Tamir back, but neither will LeBron refusing to do his job…

  10. Nothing’s going to be done. They can protest and kick and scream but it’s not going to happen. Very rarely are police prosecuted and jailed. They have to do something hideous, like those LA and Chicago police who were selling drugs and giving gangs insider information.

You have to prove “intent” to murder….first degree is going inside a person’s mind and showing he intentionally wanted to kill someone. Cops don’t do that. They act on instinct.
    That’s what people don’t get.

  11. Players in Miami wore hoodies for Trayvon in 2012. They won a championship that year too. Dude up top was there. He shouldn’t sit out. Maybe some other statement. Bc if you protest for one…then welp.

    Whole team should do something.

  12. He should be fair then. If he started it, not fair to city of Cleveland to not do or say anything. Its the same cause. No they shouldn’t pressure him. I don’t agree with that. But he really shoulda said something. ..yesterday

  13. Sorry Bron. City of Cleveland gonna have your head, you don’t do something similar bruh to WHAT you did…in Miami. This chit actually sounded like…it was your idea. Pressure or no pressure.

“A couple hours later, James posted another photo — this one of the Heat team, all wearing hoodies, their heads bowed, their hands stuffed into their pockets.

The photo was taken at the team hotel, and Heat coach Erik Spoelstra called it “a powerful move.”

Among the hashtags James linked to the photo: “WeWantJustice.”

The Heat released a statement, saying: “Our hearts go out to the family and loved ones of Trayvon Martin for their loss and for everyone involved in this terrible tragedy.

“We support our players and join them in hoping that their images and our logo can be part of the national dialogue and can help in our nation’s healing.”

  16. Like I said up top…
Prominent athlete during the late 1960s fueled Abdul-Jabbar’s thirst for education and political activity. He teamed with Bill Russell, Jim Brown, and Bobby Mitchell, among others, to support Muhammad Ali’s decision to refuse induction into the military. Political activity among African-American athletes was customary during those times; in baseball, Curt Flood sacrificed his career to achieve a semblance of free agency.

Many current athletes refrain from political activity for fear of losing endorsement dollars or marring their well-manicured images.

“I watched the civil rights movement unfold and that had a profound effect on me,” said Abdul-Jabbar. “I knew that black Americans had to overcome something that was formidable. It wasn’t just an inconvenience, it could cost you your life.”

  17. It isn’t right to ask this man to sit out and NOT be paid, that’s his lively hood.
How many of these people asking him to do this are just not going to go to work “until”?

He has a family to provide for.

  18. Interesting!! Without hope….there’s nothing.
I wonder if he could actually make a difference.
Why not try?? Maybe I’m naive.

    P. S. I do not agree with a sit out. But I do agree that Lebron’s support for Tamir’s cause may make a difference.

  19. Idk what to say about said topic. LeBron has a platform but he also has a contract. Anybody telling him not to play willing to pay his fines? cuz I ain’t got it! How about instead of not playing, people don’t buy tickets etc. Their bottom line is what matters. Even if he sits others might not. They have backup players. A WHOLE TEAM. Some players aren’t getting close to Brony boys financial figures. So???

  20. LeBron might have a platform but he can’t do it alone. It’s not a one city incident. IMO players all across the spectrum should boycott somebody. You got attack the system where it hurts and that’s in the pockets of these city governments.

  23. I’m wondering where Tamir got that fake gun? A 12 year-old shouldn’t be roaming the streets alone. They can’t vote, they can’t purchase cigarettes or alcohol, and they shouldn’t be expected to navigate the streets by themselves.

    1. Do you do ANY homework or background reading before you comment? Any? Ever?

Tamir first of all wasn’t wandering the streets alone. He was with his 14 almost 15 year old sister. And they were at a park less than half a block, from their house.

They weren’t navigating the cold hard streets. They were at their neighborhood park where it has been said, they were frequently.

      2. What do you mean, “It’s always our fault?”

The 55 year old mother who was shot death while opening the door for Chicago police officers, was an innocent victim.

Tamir, however, was carrying what appeared to be a weapon. He was also pointing it at civilians. Apparently, Tamir’s behavior was so alarming, it prompted someone to dial 911.

The violent death of a child always sparks strong emotions, but you really need to consider the facts.
