Second Nurse Diagnosed With Ebola at Dallas Hospital

A second nurse who treated Dallas Ebola patient Thomas Eric Duncan has been diagnosed with the deadly Ebola virus.

“An additional health care worker testing positive for Ebola is a serious concern, and the CDC has already taken active steps to minimize the risk to health care workers and the patient,” said the CDC in a statement on Wednesday.

Nurses’ unions are not surprised that another health care worker at Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital has contracted Ebola. A union rep listed a comedy of errors that occurred at Texas Health — beginning with Duncan being sent home from the hospital with a 103-degree fever on his initial visit on Sept. 25.

A nurses’ union rep told CNN that nurses were not adequately equipped or trained to care for an Ebola patient. She said there was no strict infection control protocol in place to treat patients with Ebola.

And most shocking: she said nurses who treated Duncan were also treating other patients — even patients who had low grade fevers which made them more susceptible to infections!

A total of 76 health care workers came into contact with Duncan, who died on Oct. 8. All are being monitored for signs of Ebola.

        I saw what the nurses union said this morning about what happened and it was gross negligence on who’s ever part. Nurses are claiming they were told they didn’t need to have their faces covered during contact with Duncan and that they had gloves on but they were not taped down so some parts of their arms were exposed. The masks did not cover their necks either. 😦

    Smh it’s about to go down. But we do have a reasonable question. How did his family NOT get it? I mean if only nurses that came in contact with him got it, shouldn’t his family or at least his girlfriend have it? I’m sure it was contagious before he even got to the hospital, when he had that fever and was sweating all over the place. I’m sure she was caring for him, until they realized she couldn’t contain him.

  29. My mom was a nurse for 29 years and now is a instructor of nursing. She said all hospitals have protocols for many different scenarios. If this hospital didn’t have a ‘Bola specific one they could have used their Chemical War procedure or Malaria outbreak procedure and if they don’t have procedures for things like that, this hospital has bigger fish to fry than ‘Bola’

  32. The nurses didnt have the proper full body hazmat suit they were improvising. Cleaning up diarrhea and body fluids. :smh: they say healthcare workers need supervised donning and doffing procedures… they dont know how to put on or take off the equipment

  48. Im an EMT and we were told that if we are called to anyone with a fever to take all necessary precautions and that if this person is confirmed to have Ebola to not travel for at least 21 days
