Dr. Ben Carson “Stop ‘Demonizing’ Ray Rice”

ben-carson-ray-rice-550x349

Dr. Ben Carson, who is contemplating making a run for president in 2016, has taken sides in the controversy over the termination of Baltimore Ravens star running back Ray Rice.

In an interview with Newsmax TV’s “The Steve Malzberg Show”, Carson urged viewers not to “jump on the bandwagon of demonizing this guy.”

Rice was indefinitely suspended from the NFL after gossip tabloid TMZ released shocking new elevator video footage showing Rice knocking out his then-fiancee Janay Palmer and callously dragging her from an elevator at Revel Casino in Atlantic City, NJ on Feb. 15.

“Let’s not all jump on the bandwagon of demonizing this guy,” Carson said. “He obviously has some real problems. And his wife obviously knows that because she subsequently married him. So they both need some help.”

Carson’s remarks follow the release Monday of a TMZ’s video of the incident, in which Rice appears to strike his now-wife Janay Palmer twice in an elevator and knock her unconscious. The Ravens announced the team’s decision to oust Rice, via its Twitter account.

Umm my issue is that Ray’s head isn’t the only one that should roll. I can only imagine the shyt that happens behind the scenes of the NFL that we don’t hear about and that is swept under the rug.

      3. Afternoon All,

After reading her post on IG it seems like this is normal for them. His reaction in the elevator after he knocked her out shows that as well. The whole situation is sad. I guess if she is ok with it, we should be too. I’ve learned a long time ago with domestic violence to stay out of it. Let them see it for themselves. Hopefully it won’t be too late when she does.

    Please STFU!!
No one is demonizing Ray Rice. He did an awesome job of doing that himself. Let this be a lesson to ALL that there are consequences for any and all actions.

  3. The incident is not new. Why in the hell did he get fired for a tape that showed a different damn camera angle of footage? The end result was the same. And they all knew said result BACK IN FEB.
Janay Rice aint even call police on Ray. I DO think he needs some help and she does too which makes this a PRIVATE matter for THESE folks.

    1. Morning, Civil. Look at another way for a second, please. By making an example of Ray Rice, his employer could very well save the life/lives of other DV victims. Doesn’t matter if Janay WANTED charges brought. This did not happen in private, but before the public, with video. Therefore, it is no longer private and his employer should, in my humble opinion, make an example out their situation so that the others who are beating their wives or even thinking about it will STOP, think and go get help before someone dies. No?

Trust and believe that Goddell knew about this when it first happened, but because it would paint Goddell in a less-flattering light, he had to take action. I would not doubt that there was an agreement reached that if the tape were ever released more serious actions would have to be taken.

The NFL isn’t a court of law, so 5th amendment doesn’t apply to this case. The NFL could easily say something to the effect that given to recent developments he was released from his team.

  8. The NFL can do what they want. They are a private org. I believe while they may not have physically seen the vid, they knew the content. Also, did they think she passed out? That vid in Feb alone should have gotten him suspended for up too at least 6 games. You want someone’s head call for the resignation of Goddell. They spend millions on security, investigations but didn’t get this video?! No, they wanted to be ignorant of it.

  9. People don’t get the full gist of the situation by the end result. That’s why a lot of people acted like Rih deserved that beating. They saw the end result, but they don’t know what it looks like to inflict that kind of injury on someone. Seeing it shocks the senses. But the NFL didn’t care anyway. They wanted their guy. He only got fired because of the response to the video. Not because of the video itself.

  10. OK. I saw Mrs.Rice IG post…..it almost made me not feel bad for her. But the facts in my head are as follows and will not change (to me):

He cold clocked your ass. That makes it his fault, not the media. Place the blame where it belongs.

The NFL been knew. The only reason he lost his job is because now we know. They did not really care.

Ray Rice should of been locked the hell up. PERIOD!

I hope they don’t have kids, because is this what you’re teaching your daughter? That’s its OK for a man to hit you!?

I feel bad for this woman that she is so accepting of this foolishness.

Ummm no it did NOT. From Feb 19 2014. From USAToday.

Ray Rice struck his fiancee and knocked her unconscious during an altercation at hotel in Atlantic City, N.J., last weekend, according to a summons from Atlantic City police. Rice and his fiancee, Janay Palmer, were both arrested Saturday morning and charged with simple assault-domestic violence after an argument at the Revel Casino in Atlantic City. Rice is scheduled to appear in court Feb. 25 at 9 a.m.

Video posted by TMZ shows Rice lifting Palmer by her arms out of an elevator and laying her on the ground. Rice’s attorney, Michael Diamondstein, confirmed to the Baltimore Sun that the video is authentic but incomplete.

Diamondstein could not be reached immediately by USA TODAY Sports.

“The video that has been put up by TMZ shows the very end of what transpired between Ray and his fiancee,” Diamdonstein told the Sun.

In a press release Sunday, the Atlantic City Police Department stated that Rice and Palmer struck each other.

The Baltimore Ravens told USA TODAY Sports on Sunday that Rice and Palmer “returned home together after being detained.”

        _______

He was charged. If he completes his intervention the charges will be dropped.. the police and prosecutors saw THIS video. Not the drag her one…the actual punch along with the other one.

I think ppl not realizing the grand jury CHOSE to drop her charge and upped the ante on his.. but when Ray (who IS a frist time ON RECORD offender) agreed to counseling, they did what they normally do…the offered that. Im not mad at him for getting what ALMOST ALL WOMEN BEATERS get…the system been showed the DGAF about chu on that front. He have to damn near kill you for it to even be a felony in some states..

  12. O_o I think he needs a suspension. I’m sorry the Ravens/NFL didn’t take it seriously but is there no statue of limitations when you control the rules and the NFL does.

They have that new DV policy. Start him under that or something but I think with full sincerity that he got off lightly and I betcha he knew that too. Maybe he thanked God and prayed for forgiveness and showered Janay with love every waking moment..unfortunately we aint privy to it..looks like he continued on with life if you ask me. This is the punishment he should have had initially imo.

  20. Any time a man is an example of what NOT to do for black boys who will follow his lead, and a future headache for little black girls who will become the girlfriends and wives of those little black boys who will follow his lead – as a community, we SHOULD demonize his a$$.

We should suggest help and hope that he gets it and then extend to help him back up – but not until AFTER he’s shown us that he’s remorseful, learned a HARD lesson, and is READY to work his way back into the good graces of respectful black folk.

What we should NOT be doing as a community is hugging this violent mf and patting him on the pack with a “poor RAY” thought process because the message it sends to impressionable black kids who already have a ROUGH a$$ future ahead of them is that beating up a black woman will make HER self-worth even lower because society has suggested that abuse is OK as long as it’s OK with you.

As one of the Ikette’s told Anna Mae Bullock in “Love Ain’t Got a Gat Damn Thing to Do Widdit!” – “It is NEVER OK to let some mother f*cker pound on your face!”
