Kwame Kilpatrick gets 28 years in prison

He had it all, first serving as a democratic delegate in the house of representatives, then elected the first young African-American mayor in the city of Detroit. He made his mother Carolyn-Cheeks Kilpatrick (former U.S. House Representative) proud, after-all it seemed he was following in her footsteps with a successful career in politics.

None-the-less, all of those hopeful dreams came crashing down after the former mayor was sentenced to twenty-eight (28) years in a federal prison for public corruption today.

Kilpatrick had a lot of dirt on his hands and all of these crimes are compounded by the involvement of other city officials as well. Thirty four other people have been convicted in connection with this public corruption case. 

Kilpatrick took bribes, misused nonprofit funds and abused his power as mayor, to steer an astounding amount of business to a best friend. He had affairs, elaborate strip parties, spa weekends, took jet-setting trips to Las Vegas at his leisure and had his entire family on the payroll at Detroit’s city hall.

There were a lot of key players on Kilpatrick’s team and their sentencing day will follow next week, including his father Bernard Kilpatrick who faces up to three years in prison on a single tax charge.

  12. 28 years!?!? Is this a record sentencing or something? I’m really racking my brain trying to figure out if there any other politicians that sentenced to this long of sentence before….WOW.

  16. n 2001, Kilpatrick became the youngest mayor of Detroit when elected at age 31. In his 2002 inaugural address, Kilpatrick said:

    “I stand before you as a son of the city of Detroit and all that it represents. I was born here in the city of Detroit, I was raised here in the city of Detroit, I went to these Detroit Public Schools. I understand this city. … This position is personal to me. It’s much more than just politics.” SMH he was a damn fool!

  17. Make it so bad, Kwame was completely unqualified for the job to which he was elected. But the idiots in Detroit liked the “hip hop” mayor. The citizens of Detroit should have their citizenship stripped.

Let’s see Kilpatrick stole government funds and handed out money freely to his HO in ATL then allowed his wife and sister to split other money (s) from government funds that were issued and intended to help young girls in Detroit….They spent it all at their leisure. Now we should feel sorry for him cause he got the max of 28 years? IDTS. In life you REAP what you sow.

On topic: Kilpatrick and his wife was gangsta and they said his wife use to be nasty to people. and the stripper that was killed on his watch was attacked by Kwame’s wife. that’s why they had her killed. and another thing. He demoted and fired any cops that felt he was doin anything wrong. Diss nigga was grimy I don’t feel sorry for him.

    We all know that you cannot trust anyone. he could have helped Detroit but instead he took advantage of it.
