Russell Simmons Apologizes for Harriet Tubman Sex Tape

Yesterday Russell Simmons caused an uproar online after hosting a comedy skit on his YouTube channel called The Harriet Tubman Sex Tapes.

At first Russel thought the tape was funny as he tweeted a link to the video calling it the funniest thing he’d ever seen. However, after an intense dragging Russell was forced to take the video down and apologize.

In the whole history of Def Comedy Jam, I’ve never taken down a controversial comedian. When my buddies from the NAACP called and asked me to take down the Harriet Tubman video from the All Def Digital YouTube channel and apologize, I agreed.

I’m a very liberal person with thick skin. My first impression of the Harriet Tubman piece was that it was about what one of actors said in the video, that 162 years later, there’s still tremendous injustice. And with Harriet Tubman outwitting the slave master? I thought it was politically correct. Silly me. I can now understand why so many people are upset. I have taken down the video. Lastly, I would never condone violence against women in any form, and for all of those I offended, I am sincerely sorry.

And any other Ceo’ers after me…Happy Thursday 😆

  1. Now that he’s moved on up in the world things like this don’t bother him.
This Nigga (excuse me cause I know we killed the word but) he feel he’s arrived.

  2. how do you start an apology by saying i guess i have a sensitivity chip missing and then follow it by LOL?! that negates the apology. I always thought he was a fraud anyway. face ass activist

  3. Welp.
This goes to show you that no matter how much money you have, it does not buy intelligence and sensitivity to such issues.

  4. Russell Simmons Apologizes for Harriet Tubman Sex Tape!!!
BUT his apology is not good enough! Simmons’s new venture “All Def Digital” published a parody of Harriet Tubman having sex with MASSA in order to free slaves.

And we have a tweet from Russell Simmons Twitter handle which supports this utterly disrespectful portrayal of one of America’s finest women.

  5. There is NOTHING and I mean NOTHING funny about our struggle as a people. And what Russell Simmons did was make a mockery out of Harriet Tubman and every thing she struggled and stood for in our history!!!!

I’m sure that woman is doing flips in her grave to ever know anyone would even THINK she fucked her master when she prayed for the demise of those who tried to sell her and her family off. It’s a sad day in America when you’re ‘own kind’ FORGET how far our ancestors have come only because they THINK they themselves have risen above our struggles.

Shame on you Russell Simmons, I LOST what little bit of RESPECT i thought I had for you.

    SMMFH 😡

  6. I wonder if Russell Simmons aka Uncle Ruckus would find it funny if it was his daughters being shown being raped by their White slave owner. This millionaire is one of the dregs and embarrassment to Black folks but he’s loved by White folks because he is doing their bidding as is the former Drug dealer Jay Z.

  7. Is anything sacred anymore? Why would he make a mockery of this great woman. He would not be where he is today if it wasn’t for people like Harriet Tubman. I wish she had an estate to sue him.

  8. Russel Simmons has always been a despicable person. He is one of a number of black celebrities who often get away with things that are downright insulting to black people. He should be called out just like any white racist.

Def Comedy Jam was a minstrel show with the constant use of the N word. He has never done anything positive. This shows his total disrespect for the black community and for those who fought for the opportunities he enjoys.

  9. Some money is dirty money; and in my book Russel Simmons’s wealth, the way he’s earned it, is definitely dirty money.
