Pastor Jamal Bryant rebukes EBONY for accusing him of impregnating a minor

Pastor Jamal Bryant (pictured above) wrote an open letter to EBONY magazine, rebuking them for accusing him of impregnating a teenage member of his congregation.

Bryant, a single father of 3 beautiful daughters, admitted that he cheated on his wife in an open letter to EBONY titled “Pastor Jamal Bryant Rebukes EBONY”.

“In 2007 I participated in an extramarital affair that resulted ultimately in the termination of my marriage to my incredible wife Gizelle,” he wrote. “NO minors were involved but my minor children have been affected.” Not what is known and what’s rumored; the word swirling on the religious roster in Baltimore is, Pastor Bryant indeed impregnated a woman in his congregation maybe not a minor at the time but a young parishioner in his church.

Bryant went on to call the accusation that he slept with a minor, “categorically and completely untrue.”

Pastor Bryant writes:

For 67 years Ebony Magazine has been the drum beat for culture in the African-American community. John Johnson its beloved founder dedicated his life to safe guarding our image with great integrity.

The March 2013 edition has left a hole in my heart. On page 124 they published that it’s alleged I impregnated a 17-year-old member of my church. This accusation is categorically and completely untrue. To publish this with absolutely no source lends itself to reckless endangerment to my children, my congregation and my community.

Ebony is not the National Enquirer. A higher standard is required and the statement jeopardizes my ministry to the youth in my church and community. So it is on moral grounds that a retraction is necessary.

In 2007 I participated in an extramarital affair that resulted ultimately in the termination of my marriage to my incredible wife Gizelle. NO minors were involved but my minor children have been affected. I don’t want them to have to live through any further unnecessary pain.

Matthew 18:15 say’s if your brother has sinned against you go and tell him his fault. I solicit your continued prayers for my family, forgiveness for myself and accountability from Ebony magazine.

        God did not intend for men to be fruitful and multiply with multiple women. It’s a dangerous reckless lifestyle that can end in disaster I don’t even want to hear this so-called pastors explanation.

        I disagree with this sentiment. NOT BEING ABLE TO vs NOT WANTING TO are two different things. Being faithful is not a “capability” issue (can a man do it); rather it is a will issue (does a man really want to do it). Regarding fidelity, or the lack thereof, individuals have the power of choice. People who remain faithful to their vows/relationship have CHOSEN to do so.

        Males are not helpless, pitiful creatures inept of critical thinking; this is what society and cultural dogma has manufactured as truth. Many women “choose” to accept this because they either don’t know any better or don’t want to do better and consequently put up with infidelity. Submission of this kind reinforces the notion that men are supposed to be polyandrous. monogamous men, know this – THEY DO EXIST!

Bryant also has two children from before his marriage. He acknowledged one, a 7-year-old daughter, for the first time last year from the pulpit after a court battle over child support payments surfaced and became a topic of speculation.

Who wants a pastor who is engaged in just as much shit if not more sin than his members!!     Acceptance of Jesus doesn’t mean we will be perfect. Perfection is an ideology that we strive for. Realistically we won’t achieve it because we are human; but Christians should make a concerted effort to pursue it. When they fall, they should own the fall and make amends with persons involved, ask God to help them be stronger, and move on with life.

    My point is this – God used everyday common folk to do His work. Furthermore, God saves from the guttermost to the uttermost. He can use anybody if they are willing to be used by Him.

  34. Pastor Bryant should have kept his mouth shut on this subject perfect. The State of Maryland has public access to court records, including the paternity case. Anyone can easily see the identity of the plaintiffs in both the 1997 case and the 2000 case online. DOB info is also in these records, as well as the individual steps taken by the judges in both cases. Make no mistake that this Ebony article hurts his brand & that seems to be the concern here because the truth is in those courts records.
