You and me both. Girl I can recite lines from almost every Jefferson re-run, but still laugh at the jokes like I’m seeing it for the first time.

Damn shame that you cant find honest to goodness tv sitcoms like that anymore. Everything is reality-tv.

      Again…RIP Mr. Hemsley!!

  6. Sherman was on some TV show a few years back..he hosted a Jeffersons reunion on the show. They followed him around as he gathered the things to make the dinner. It was nice.

Only Jenny, (the 2nd) Lionel, Florence and Ralph the butler were still alive though.

I may be wrong, but I think maybe Mr. Bently was too?
Anyway, it was really nice. Some of the cast of Amen attended too.

We finally got a piece of the pie.

Beans don’t burn on the grill.
    Took a whole lotta tryin’,
Just to get up that hill.
Now we’re up in the big leagues,
    Gettin’ our turn at bat.
As long as we live, it’s you and me baby,
There ain’t nothin wrong with that.

  11. sorry to hear this. The Jeffersons and Amen were hit shows because Hemsley was a raw comedian. Martin Lawrence appreciated his talent which is why I think he pulled him in to some of his shows.

  20. In the new millennium there have not been any real BLACK shows. Jeffersons, Stanford & Son, Amen, etc. were the sitcoms that showed black people to strive for more. All the shows they have now, is how to get along with white-tee, how to shuck and jive for white-tee, how to be friends with white-tee, how race doesn’t matter, how white-tee doesn’t see color.

Black people have forgotten how to be black and proud. You really think these white folks care for you….check message boards, check blogs and see how they drag black people down and then smile up in your face in the office.

RIP George and “thank you” for not being afraid to magnify your role and maginfy it BOLDLY!.

  26. Gone are the days of good black shows that taught us the meaning of family values, self respect and how to survive like Sanford and Son, the Jeffersons, Good Times and Amen…. Now, it is all trash like The Atlanta Housewives, Love and Hip Hop and the list goes on. I really feel sorry for this generation.

Black TV shows have gone out of the window just like Black music.
