According to media reports, Whitney Houston’s mother, Cissy Houston was not pleased with the comments Aretha Franklin made about Whitney Houston on the Today Show the day before her funeral…
The Queen of Soul’s spokeswoman strenuously denied that Franklin missed Whitney Houston’s funeral on Saturday afternoon because she angered the late singer’s mother, Cissy Houston. But insisted instead, that the “Queen of soul” was absent at Whitney’s funeral due to leg spasms.
Yet sources and all reviews note that, the “Queen of soul” was just fine on Saturday night when she performed the second of two sold out concerts at Radio City Music Hall.
An insider also tells us that Franklin, who paid tribute to Houston during her concert was even feeling well enough to entertain 40 of her friends at the Ritz Carlton hotel on Central Park South after Saturday’s show.
The eyewitness says Franklin, sporting a curly blond hairstyle, arrived on the arm of her on-again, off-again fiance William Wilkerson. The group dined on steak and shrimp, and our source says, “It looked like everyone was having a great time.”
Franklin’s rapid recovery gives credence to the buzz that her absence from Houston’s funeral had to do with comments she made during an interview she taped with Al Roker. And although the interview is no longer available online Aretha made the following statements…
“Parents have to really talk to their children before they leave home,” Franklin told Roker. “They have to make sure when they leave home, they have all the right things.
She left home with all the right things, but she just kind of lost her way along the way.”
Franklin also denied she was Houston’s godmother, as the media has reported, but rather an “honorary aunt.”

I don’t see a problem with most of her comments but the slap in the face was her saying, she was NOT Whitney’s godmother comment which is why Dionne felt the need to make a point of mentioning that at the funeral.

One of Aretha’s sons was accused of setting her house on fire and allegedly had (has?) a drug habit, so she can’t really take swipes at Cissy’s child rearing skills, can she? I don’t blame her for speaking her peace but she’s had issues, too. Aretha is at an age where people rarely apologize for what they do or say/ She did and said what she felt and kept it moving. You konw we never really know what went on but being that shes known them for so long it my be some truth in it.parents are so quick to send their children off .sure 17 and 18 may be a age where the child should go but can that child really handle it. everbody raises their kids differently. if your child runs into someones child that was raised wrong you will have a problem ,if you dont teach your child how to handle certain situations.

I watched the interview and IMO there was nothing inappropriate said by Aretha. In fact, I was impressed how Aretha gracefully declined to give any comments on Bobby when Al Roker asked her what she thought.

I cosign you on the Winan preacher and his prosperity gospel. His sermon was out of line and should have been kept for his congregation. He only mentioned Whitney when he was bragging about how long he knew her. He called his awful family up to perform again. He offered no words of comfort to the family and didn’t offer any encouragement for nonbelievers to get to know Christ.
Me and my friends also noticed how disrespectful he was to others. When others stood for speakers like Tyler Perry (who I don’t care for but he put it down) he did not even acknowledge him. When TP spoke, he played with his role and looked like he was on defense that TP successfully treaded into his territory.

Remember when Natalie’s mom had her declared incompetent and committed her to long-term inpatient rehab. After Natalie was clean and sober and proved herself worthy, her mom returned her affairs back to her care. That’s why Natalie is alive today even after dealing with medical issues caused by drug use. Sorry, but I think Cissy could have done more for Whitney given the resources available for those with deep pockets. After all, Whitney wasn’t the crackhead on the corner.

I thought Bebe Winans’ story was funny. I like when funerals have people who can tell funny stories about the person when they were here. Focuses more on REALLY celebrating the love, life and laughter of that person than that they are gone.
I read some of those TMZ folks. White folks can be so fukking close-minded. Concentrating on the flashing marquee outside of the church with “Whitney Houston’s Homegoing.” That marquee wasn’t just put there today! A LOT of Black churches have flashing marquees that announce the day’s events!
