Update: Whitney’s Funeral Is Set For Saturday At New Hope Baptist Church in Newark, NJ And It’s Private

Whitney Houston’s body was flown into Teterboro airport last night and driven by hearse with a police escort to Whigham Funeral home in Newark, New Jersey.

A large crowd was gathered at the funeral home outside. Cissy Houston, the singer’s mother, was waiting inside, police said.

The funeral for the pop superstar will be held on Saturday 12 Noon at her home church, New Hope Baptist, according to the owner of the funeral home handling the arrangements.

The private ceremony is open to invited guests only, Whigham said. Reporters will remain outside.

  1. Watch ABCNews World News Tonight for parts of the 2002 interview we didn’t see and what Whitney said would happen to her in 2012.

  2. I think Whitney was just overwhelmingly sad. Now I don’t think Whitney intentionally killed herself, I think she just wanted to numb the pain. Remember her friend (perhaps lover) Robin Crawford? Sent her packing cuz Bobby didn’t like her. Her father died angry at her over some Bobby shiggety. All those years of bank rolling his whole damn family — and he stood by and allowed them to take pictures of her drug fueled mess and sell them to the tabloids. She may have been into some drugs before Bobby, but their co-dependency seemed to be all consuming.

Remember the miscarriages before and after Bobbi Kristina (she so desperately wanted a child/children by this man)? Skip to the present — Bobby appears to have completely moved on past her; he seems to be pretty much OK. New woman, new baby, new contract, new life. Where was poor Whitney — no contract, no career, no voice, no real man; not able to tap into the true sources of love that had always sustained her (JESUS, Mama, child, family, church) due to the Satanic smoke screen of drugs, enablers, leeches, fear, shame, ego, what have you.

Y’all, I think Whitney was just sooo, sooo, sooo SAD.

  3. SHE DIED AND IT WASN’T NATURAL

ALTHOUGH UNFORTUNATE, WHITNEY HAS STRUGGLED TO GET HER LIFE AND CAREER BACK ON TRACK

HER DEATH WAS SUICIDE REGARDLESS OF INTENTIONAL OR ACCIDENTAL, IT WAS HER TIME AND GOD CALLED HER HOME TO REST SO SHE DIDN’T HAVE TO SUFFER ANYMORE

IT IS WHAT IT IS, CELEBRATE HER LIFE & REJOICE THAT SHE IS NO LONGER IN PAIN

Was I the only one that felt that the Whitney tribute was kinda weak…I know it was last minute but they could have given Jennifer more time and cut Nikki Minaj’s mini movie out of the show completely…it was so tasteless. And everytime Rihanna opened her mouth I got re-upset by the fact that Whitney is gone RiRi really just needs to model…

    1. Felicia: It is just too easy for celebrities to get their hands on prescription drugs. When a regular Joe has the same symptoms as a celebrity, they get a 10 mg pill, but a celebrity gets an 80 mg pill. These people are killing themselves. They are just so use to getting anything they want….money talks….brokey can stay without meds.

From my understanding she was taking anxiety pills before the big party and it was normal for her to do so.

RIP Whitney. I loved her voice regardless. It just makes me think that a little care can ultimately save someone’s life. Whitney had to make her own decisions regardless of the situation or whatever is presented to her. Her music is what I will remember.

I am just going to say may she rest in peace… i think she committed suicide but that is my personal opinion… no way you take all them drugs… and then get in the tub… WTH

I’ve watched numerous interviews of Whitney during her last years over the weekend. The most poignant thing she said was during an interview with Diane Sawyer. She said she is her own worst enemy and that no one tells her what to do. Whitney did what she wanted. No one MADE her do anything.

No matter the reason for her death, it came way too soon. And instead f vilifying her, I would rather celebrate her talent, her voice, and her life. Because up until the last 10 years or so, Whitney lived the life of dreams.

We will always love you, Nippy!

    6. When you’re an addict, you have to be careful of the company you keep. In this case she CHOSE to marry a man she liked, who drinks and parties hard. Knowing this is his MO, she should have chosen to not be with him. Unless there’s pictures of him holding a gun to her telling her head telling her to chug, and swallow, it was a choice she made. Unfortunate but true.
I have a girlfriend that’s a straight out whore, will I EVER take her around my man? NO, because she will CHOOSE to give him her puzzay and I don’t want to end up on Snapped via the First 48

Same thing with Wayne. He has a known syrup addiction but its acceptable because its prescribed now.

Not speaking ill will but I hope this is a wake call for Rhianna.

My mom takes that or used to, and she says that medication is potent. I believe the best medication for recovering addicts is support, from family and friends, not medications that can ultimately kill you if taken in excess. Also acupunture helps.

I hope we are all invited Like when Katherine Jackson invited us into the staples center to witness the impact Michael had on the world. The same I hope Cissy would allow to go for Whitney because she is that big of a star. Michael had a send off that was coordinated to perfection. Hope we can see Whitney’s as well. For real.

  24. I like that,.. Whitney was a mom/daughter 1st and a celebrity last, her life should be celebrated as such. people don’t understand that celebrities are people too, even in death and should have their private moments respected as such. Please let this family mourn in private. I still don’t understand how people who have NEVER MET HER are talking about going to the funeral,..

Maybe a celebration of life of sorts.
