Bishop Eddie Long Is Taking Some Time Off

Because his foundation is slowly crumbling right before his eyes and his family structure will no longer be his front. Below is the statement as reported on CNN:

Bishop Eddie Long, head of one of the nation’s largest mega-churches, announced Sunday he is “taking time off” to work on his family.

The announcement came three days after his wife Vanessa filed for divorce.

Although her husband’s church issued a statement later that same day saying she was withdrawing the divorce petition, Vanessa Long’s attorney said she was proceeding with the divorce.

Last spring, Long, head of New Birth Missionary Baptist Church, settled a lawsuit filed by four young men who accused him of pressuring them into sexual relationships while they were teenagers and members of the congregation.

I don’t think Bishop Long’s family need to be worked on, I think it’s Bishop Long who has the problem. He’s determined to live in the closet and not fess up to his secret lifestyle of homosexuality and hypocrisy. Pride always comes before the fall!!!

    “I’m going to take a little time off to work with my family,” Long said Sunday to a packed house at the televised service.

    “I do want you to know that this is, for me and my family, especially with me, one of the most difficult times and things I’ve had to face, and only because my strength, other than God, is in Miss Vanessa,” he said to huge applause.

    “And I want you to rest assured that I love her and she loves me. … In all the things that I’ve ever had to deal with and being pastor, my rock has been to be able to come home to a virtuous woman who always had peace in my house,” he said.

    “We’re going (to) work it out,” he said.

    He insisted that the two of them are not fighting, and that they are not mad at each other.

    Long said the situation is “not because of allegations” of sexual relationships last year and instead blamed the pressures of being a pastor’s wife.

    “It’s been very difficult to her, some of the things that she’s had to endure,” he said.

    The church issued a statement emphasizing that Long is not stepping down, and “will continue to be the senior pastor of New Birth.”

God has given all that attended a chance to leave when they first heard of this man making a mockery out of the church.       In Baptist churches, YES, the Deacon Board is supposed to be the checks and balance for the Pastor. But a lot of these snakes in the grass have got “yes men” elected on the baord, sometimes wihtout the congregation voting, and there is no one to check him. It’s sad actually

      Pinky, the Deacon Board should not be limited to just Baptist Churches. The role of the Deacon is outlined in 1 Timothy and it has nothing to do with the denomination of the church. If more churches would stick to the Word of God and not their own rules, there wouldn’t be as many issues within the church to begin with.

The members are to blame as well, they sat in this chruch going against what GOD actually taught, they knew things was so out of order, but yet they stayed because of the title, and riches of the world, I know a hole heap of folks over there, and my child is actually friends with the kids, Vanessa knew stuff was out of order as well and have for sometime now,the only ones need help are the kids, it’s sad when folks make excuses for these so called bishops, it’s a shame and disgraceful, the people that will be affected are the the ones that actually wanted to be saved, newbirth was a big mess, from day one, everything dont go on in GOD’s house but newbirth made an exception, that is why it had to fall, GOD aint pleased with this fooliness, and he aint in this church nor the so called followers of Eddie long, it just a shame, he has mad a mockery of GOD and now him and the fake members will suffer, but it aint gone stop there, there are many more to fall.

If he repents of his sins and comes forth and admits his guilt to his congregation and the public, he may actually be forgiven. After all, isn’t his church called “New Birth”? What better way than to be reborn and start anew. And the moral of this story is: it’s not good to play with God, ’cause he can and will show you up! Just my 2 cents.

      @Lisa, there are some church folk who NEVER touch their Bibles and yet live off every word from the Pastor. So, when the pastor does something wrong either they blame the victim or loose their own faith, which was faith in man from the start and never in Jesus the Christ.

      @ Gia, you’re right. The young men were victims. They were takin advantage of by a MAN in a postion of power, so I agree with that statement. You’re right again, the church is a business,but like any business, if the CEO, CFO, VP, EVP, SRVP, etc.. Is not doing their job or abusing their power, ummm, they are replaced. That didn’t happen here. Eddie Long tried to pay for the problem to go away and it didn’t. Now, like I said in another post, he should have left for the betterment of the church.

      I agree, a sheppred is supposed to lead his flock. He is also supposed to be “above reproach, faithful to his wife, temperate, self-controlled, respectable, hospitable” 1 Timothy 3:2. He is not. Therefore, he should step aside and let the church recover w/a new Pastor so they can get back to the business of God.

      The mindset of these so called pastors are getting caught out there doing things they shouldn’t be doing, becasue they forget that they are only a man. They take on a GOD complex and start believing the hype that they are the second coming of Jesus… Stop it !!!! Also, everyone including pastors are imperfect.. So, when you walk into a church, it’s imperfect… When people start to forget about their imprefections and become holier then thou, God will show up and shut them down, just like Eddie Long..

Coming out of lurkdom to add – The statement that was issued late Friday to say that Vanessa Long had withdrawn her petition was issued on New Birth letterhead…I think it was not her or her attorney’s doing. I think it was an attempt by the Church to make it appear as though she had changed her mind, when in fact she had not; which is why the last press statement issued, by her attorney, stated, “To avoid any undue confusion, Mrs. Long’s future statements, if any, will be issued through her attorneys.”

    Clearly the church was trying to manipulate the situation.

    As a former New Birth member, I ran as fast and as far as I could get away from this church. Still looking for a church home…but I haven’t lost my faith
