“Amy Winehouse Father Believes She Died Of A Seizure”

With any drug or alcohol addiction, when seeking to go sober it is imperative to seek professional help and Amy Winehouse’s father believes the singer died after suffering a seizure related to alcohol detoxification.

Winehouse, who had fought drug and alcohol problems for years, was found dead in bed at her London home on July 23. Her family says toxicology reports indicated there was alcohol in her bloodstream but it was unnclear whether it had contributed to her death.

Mitch Winehouse (Amy’s father) said Friday during a taping of Anderson Cooper’s new syndicated talk show “that traces of the prescription drug Librium, which is used to fight anxiety and withdrawal symptoms of alcoholism, were found in her body.”

“Everything Amy did, she did to excess,” he said on the show, which is to air as Cooper’s debut Monday. “She drank to excess and did detox to excess.” He said he regretted that his daughter – whose most famous song, “Rehab,” has her answering “no, no, no” when told to go to rehab – was trying to kick her alcoholism without a doctor’s help. He said “the periods of abstinence were becoming longer, and the periods of drinking were becoming shorter. It was heading in the right direction.”

  4. Her heart gave out because of all of the abuse and the few drops that she had on the night she died, mixed with the detox drug she was taking, which is really fucking stupid to do, so it killed her.

      you can die from any kind of alchol and/or drug withdrawal which is considered a detox. This is why you should always have a doctor assist you. oh yes it’s very possible.

        It’s so obvious that after years and years of abuse, AW’s body was past the point of no return and she would’ve died of heart failure or some other type of failure relating to the drug abuse

        Alcohol is the one drug where detoxing can kill you. You may think withdrawin from other substances is going to kill you, but alcohol will do it. Fatal seizures are a real possibilit­y. And Amy had put her body through a lot of abuse in her 27 years. I hope her family finds some peace in time and that using her memory to help others speeds the heeling process for them.

  16. if there is any good to come from such tragedy, then her public struggles and death should send the message that with abuse comes consequenc­es. It’s too late to save her, but if her death wises up one of us, then it’s not all fade to black.

  17. As you might expect, taking Librium and drinking can lead to serious side effects. If both were in her system (and all the headlines reading that Amy had “no” drugs in her system must have just been referring to illegal drugs?) she could have gotten very very ill or seized. I hope her family can find some peace and hopefully the foundation named for her will do some good.

    1. The seizure was likely due to too little librium and alcohol. Many alcoholics have tremors and they can have seizures as part of alcohol withdrawal­. Librium is meant to prevent this in Amy’s case it didn’t.

      1. Drugs don’t have to be illegal to kill anyone. Prescripti­on meds and liquor have been killing folks for years.

  18. Regardless of what caused her death, it was a life taken too soon. My sympathies to the families of all who have someone addicted to hardcore drugs, or lost someone because of it.

        In denial about what? He seems pretty upfront about the issues she had with addiction and fairly cognizant of the fact that addiction issues are what ultimately killed her. So I can’t cosign you on that!
